2018 Will be the Year of Nicole

Dressed for doing chores outside in the cold.

If I claim it will be the year of Nicole, will that make it so?

I like the show The Middle. I feel like I can relate to Sue Sue Heck. If you’ve never watched the show, yes, that is her name, Sue Sue Heck. Sadly, she’s also kind of a nerd/dork. I hate to say that because like I said, I relate to her. But truth be told, I’m probably a nerd/dork too.

Every year, usually school year but still, Sue claims it to be the Year of Sue. Of course, sadly, this is the last season. I’m mad about that. She’s also potentially getting with the guy but they are still keeping him at arm’s length from her so I’m upset about that too. GRRRRRR! (more…)

This Cold Stuff is For the Birds!

I think I’ve mentioned a time or two that I hate cold weather… yes? no? I know the other day I said it was pretty but I’ve since changed my mind. Why do you ask? Well, my morning started off in the 5 am hour. My husband called to say that his truck gelled over. Now if you don’t know much about diesel trucks… their fuel can do what they call gel.

Basically, it goes from a liquid usable form to a gel-like substance that won’t work. So the way a diesel is made, it has a paraffin type stuff present. At 32˚F it is in liquid form but as the temps start dropping it starts hardening. Once this happens it can clog the tank and the fuel filters. aka, no fuel for the truck.

He was like 2-3 miles from the house and luckily went back roads versus being stranded out on the interstate.

My dad worked on finding a tow rope so we could hopefully tow the truck home, but I decided it was taking way too long so I jumped in my truck and headed off to get him some heat. I’m not sure if you know this or not, but no truck work, no heat. As I was driving over there I looked at the dash and my truck said it was -15˚F. Holy Hades!

Tuesday Things

Hey guys, Happy New Year! I saw this post on Facebook this morning and giggled…

The hashtag made me giggle even more. It’s no secret around here, I’m not a fan of January. I’m sorry. And maybe I giggled so much because that picture summed it up… although it’s off a page for women after 50. I’m not 50 yet. I think (don’t quote me) I’m 34. I may or may not be. Most days I’m not sure how old I am but I can tell you my birthday, does that count? (more…)

Christmas 2017

After we came back from Ft. Worth, I swear we all came down with the plague that everyone I know is fighting.  Ugh! In fact, here I am, still fighting it. It’s awful! But enough about that….

Three days before Christmas Abug and I decided we needed to work on Santa cookies. Santa was coming and with his long flight across country and the world, he needed some good sustenance, so we went with making Red Velvet Peppermint Kiss Cookies. We figured he’d get Chocolate chip everywhere else so we’d give him something a little different. That’s the way we roll in this house.

And might I mention, my kid is a country kid, but she’s worse than her mommy about having dirty hands. Making the Red Velvet part of the cookies, the food coloring along with some of the oil transferred to her hands (and mine) and she hated that! WOW!

Ft. Worth 2017

The real start of the Christmas season for me tends to be our trip to Ft. Worth. There have been a few years I haven’t been able to go, but I try to make it down there every year. Sadly, for me this year was a little lackluster. It was fun, don’t get me wrong, but it just didn’t scream Christmas season to me.

Hubby had to go to San Francisco for work the whole week leading up to Ft. Worth. He flew into DFW on Thursday night. We left home Thursday night and drove as far as Denton, Texas. Then from there, Friday morning we drove to the hotel that hubby was at and picked him up.

It seems like every year they change up the schedule for the NCHA Futurity. This year the NonPro and Amateur finals happened Friday night, the Open Semi-finals happened on Saturday, and the finals for the Open happened Sunday evening. Truthfully, that’s how it used to be, then they started changing it. We’re back to basics now.

Ft. Worth Stockyards

No trip to Ft. Worth is complete without a trip to the Stockyards. I have to say, this is probably my favorite place on earth… or at least one of. Hubby though wasn’t in the Holiday spirit so I felt like I was “dragging” him and he pretty well refused to go into the stores with me. One of my favorite things to do is window shop at the stores and I couldn’t hardly budge him into a store with me. I was getting frustrated.

This is What It’s All About

Earlier this fall… yes, it’s still fall… you know tomorrow starts the Winter Solstice, that’s the shortest day of the whole year. From there we’re going to be gaining light!! Anyway… back to the fall… We had our annual Chili cookoff to raise money for deserving Children whose families have fallen on hard times for whatever reason.

I always refer to those who help with this project as Santa’s Helpers because who couldn’t use a helper? So, Santa’s helpers have been busy at work, getting applications, reviewing them, and trying their darndest to make sure kids have a fabulous Christmas no matter what the circumstances their family faces are. But here’s the thing…

They needed a place to store the presents bought, wrap the presents, and have a pickup point for parents. But the other day someone broke into that warehouse and stole at least $300 worth of gifts. WHAT? Sad, but true. (more…)

Driving Lessons

I’m pretty sure I have a few more gray hairs…

Remember a couple years ago when I was trying to teach Tbug how to drive a standard? I told her before she could get her driver’s license she had to be able to check the oil in the car (not change it, just check it), change a tire, and drive a standard transmission. So 2 years ago I attempted to teach her because at the time we had a standard… If you remember (if not I”m telling you now) she ran the car into the back of the tractor. I was 2 weeks away from having Abug. I was very pregnant. We were in our driveway and not going very fast but we both bounced off the dash. She hasn’t lived it down…

Well her mom moved her across the state line into Kansas. I don’t really know Kansas law but I know you can get your drivers license at 15 (instead of 16) and you can get your learner’s permit at 14 instead of 15. She doesn’t have it yet, but I guess her mom is talking about letting her get it. Gray hair #1. I also guess her mom has been letting her drive their vehicle (I don’t know, just what Tbug tells me). So lately she’s been bragging about “Being a Good Driver.” I keep telling her to knock on wood because she’s getting way to cocky and needs to learn some humility.

Anyway Sunday I walked out to the barn to let the horses out before we went to town. I walked back to the house and went to get in the passenger seat and noticed Tbug was in the driver’s seat and hubby was in the back seat. <sigh> 2 years ago all over again, except it’s not a standard so if we hit something we won’t bounce backwards if she has her foot on the clutch….

Hubby agreed to let her drive down the driveway. She sits so stiff I was nervous. Hubby kept getting on to me for being nervous. I was like, hello… I was in the front seat when she ran into the tractor. He then let her drive out the driveway and down the road. We live in the country so the roads aren’t very populated.

Let’s see… she rolled through a stop sign, didn’t stop. She didn’t put her seat belt on. She almost took out a guard rail. Sigh! And I was in the front seat to witness it all. I made her stop in the middle of the road (no one around) and put her seat belt on. I yelled at her for rolling through a stop sign. There was a guy who stopped in the middle of the road and she wasn’t moving over so I yelled again. and I closed my eyes going over the bridge, I only know about the guard rail because hubby told her.

Uh huh… and she’s a “Good Driver.” I told her she needs to learn more humility and not brag. Instead, learn how to be a good driver….

Note: She’s not a bad driver, but she’s definitely boasting on herself way to much…. I hope we can teach her better and the end goal is to make her a good driver!
