Hello, I’m Nicole. I am the author/writer/photographer behind Midwestern at Heart. I grew up in Southwest Missouri so I am a Midwesterner at heart! Life has taken me in many interesting paths. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture Education and a Master’s Degree in English with an emphasis in Technical and Professional Writing. Let me just say, that’s two different area’s of expertise if I do say so myself.

I started this blog on a whim in 2009 when I saw a friend from college start one. I didn’t even know what a blog was. My husband and I had just started dating a couple months before I started this blog so this pretty well chronicles our whole relationship. ha!

Some other tidbits that make me, me. I grew up on the back of a horse, in fact I rode a horse before I could even walk. I learned how to drive a 1986 F-250 4×4 when I was 4 years old in a hayfield during a freak lightening storm, by the way none of the hay got wet and I only ran over a bale or two. When I was 12 I learned how to drive a standard transmission in the same truck, that summer I dumped a few loads of hay that had to be re-stacked, but I can drive a standard now. I graduated high school in 2001, went straight into college and graduated May 2005 with a degree to teach high school agriculture. I met and became friends with my husband in high school, but we were not high school sweethearts, in fact it was 9 years before we went on our first date. When I married him I became an instant mother to my sweet {step}daughter. I got certified in Scuba Diving in July 2013, started on my Master’s program Fall of 2013, and found out I was expecting my first baby due June of 2014.

At one point or another I’m sure you can find stories that tell you in depth about all of that. I like to talk although I’m known as a shy outgoing person. Quite the oxymoron if there are any but I can be extremely shy around new people while talking the leg off to others. There is no rhyme or reason.

I hope you pull up a chair and your favorite beverage and laugh right along with me. I’m glad you’re here. By the way, that’s me up there in that picture along with my husband. It’s one of my favorite pictures and it was just a random selfie I took in an elevator in Las Vegas while waiting to get to our floor.
