Courtyard by Marriott – Clarksville, TN

Do you remember that my husband was military? Army in fact. A long time ago. Long before I was in the picture, but kind of not really. I was in the picture in high school, then I was out, and now I’m back again. Okay, anyway, moving on.

When you’re in the army, you form a brotherhood. You get brothers and sisters who have your back and they have yours. Why? Because you guys are all joining together to do one thing, defend our country and our freedoms. My husband has a couple guys who have served that purpose for him. And two of them happen to be twins. Isn’t that fun? I can also mention that in the last 2 weeks I have seen both of them… and they both live in different places.

One has recently moved about an hour from us while the other still lives at the Army base in Oak Grove, Kentucky/Ft. Campbell. If you ask my husband, that area is called Tuckasee because you are on the Kentucky/Tennessee border. In fact, the army base is in both states, it just registers as Kentucky because that’s the side the post office is on.

Anyway, I might be getting a little off topic. It happens. A couple weeks ago we headed to Metropolis, Illinois to go SCUBA diving. One of my husband’s brothers is sick. He could use all the prayers he can get, trust me! But being in Metropolis, we were only 2 hours from seeing him if that… so we schemed with his wife behind his back to show up on his doorstep to see him.

In fact, I thought it would be fun to send him random text messages of his house to show we were there. The silly guy was playing WOW so he wasn’t paying attention to his phone very much and Krissy had to make him look.

Clarksville, Tennessee

There really isn’t anywhere to stay in Oak Grove, so we went across the line into Tennessee for a hotel. Tim’s exit is 89. There are 94 in Kentucky and then you cross over the line. We went to exit 4. (more…)

Italian Grill on Broadway {Paducah, Kentucky}

Once upon a time, my friends and I took a trip to Metropolis, Illinois, to go SCUBA diving at Mermet Springs. When we were finished one night, we were hungry, so we googled restaurants around after deciding upon Italian and came up with the Italian Grill on Broadway in Paducah, Kentucky, just across the Ohio River.

We loaded up in our vehicles, made the 8 or so mile trek, dropped one of our party members off to go get us a table and proceeded to find a place to park. We weren’t having luck finding a place to park and then got a phone call from Mark (who was the lucky sole dropped off) that there was a 4 hour wait. Man do we know how to pick restaurants or what?!?!

Food, Scuba Diving, Friends and Fun

Now the hotel has a continental breakfast but we decided not to eat there. Instead we decided to go back across the river to Paducah and eat at Cracker Barrel.

They gave Abug a kids menu. She ate the Crayons and Karen and I tried to color on it some. Do you see a theme here. ha!

After we ate we wandered through the store. I saw this sign and totally started laughing. This is definitely a sign for me. ha! I also found a Mr. & Mrs. Santa Clause Salt and Pepper shaker for $.99 a piece. I bought them. I’ll have to tell you that story some time.

Here’s a Story of a Trip to Mermet

Put the title to the theme of the Brady Bunch tune!

Yes, yes I just said that.

Last Thursday after I got out of class, we had plans to meet up with some friends and head to Mermet Springs for a weekend of scuba diving.

When I left the school I was supposed to be reading/listening to The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne and all I could do was sing the Brady Bunch Theme Song.

When I got to Jared and Karen’s house, I mentioned that and the rest of the weekend, EVERYONE was singing it. We met up with a bunch of friends at Mermet Springs (Metropolis, IL) and they got involved singing it. Craziness!

Half of the larger group left different times on Thursday, the rest left on Friday. We left around 11:30 so we didn’t have to haul tail to get there.

Once we got to Springfield, everyone in our truck (there were 6 of us… Hubby, Jared, Karen, Memaw, Abug and me) was hungry. I started listing different restaurants we could eat at. Eventually we chose Red Robin, YUMMMMMM! 🙂

Now our trip was 6ish hours and I drank at least 2 glasses of Sweet Tea. Not my smartest move :).

Now unless people are just meeting me for the first time, they’ve learned that I take pictures of everything. But I tried not to get on people’s nerves this trip so I mainly just stuck to pictures of my food and/or hubby’s food. I just try not to annoy people too much. Just because I like blogging and pictures doesn’t mean others do…

I went with the The Southern Charm burger. Black Angus patty glazed with brown sugar and topped with candied bacon, honey BBQ sauce, sharp Cheddar and caramelized onions on a toasted Ciabatta bun… although they were out of ciabatta buns so I got it on a jalapeño bun. I got a side of Parmesan Fries. Squirrely girly loved the fries. I couldn’t get her to eat hamburger though. Some days you pick your battles :).

Hubby went with the Burnin’ Love. Topped with fried jalapeño coins, salsa, Pepper-Jack, lettuce, tomatoes and chipotle aioli on a jalapeño-cornmeal kaiser roll. It’s love at first bite. He went with a side of Sweet Potato Fries. I should have tried a bite but didn’t get to. He liked it though so that’s really what matters!!

Him and me, me and him

We just fit together like peas in a pod! He’s great! I said I’d post some photos from Kentucky and wow, I’m finally getting to it, and the sad thing, I got Dallas pictures up rather fast and that was the weekend after Kentucky. Prince Charming’s friend, Greg, was getting so tickled at me but Prince Charming is just used to it. Me, I was sitting there while they were talking, playing with the settings on my camera. I just used Prince Charming as my model and he sat there talking to Tim & Greg. Greg asked me what the heck I was doing and Prince Charming said, Oh probably playing. Greg was like doesn’t that bother you and I looked at Greg and told him that Prince Charming is fairly used to it! It happens a lot!

He’ll usually smile at me for a few 🙂

Now he’s concentrating!

About now is when Greg is giving him/me fits

I’m not sure anything in this photo is completely in focus….

Don’t let him fool you, he knows what I’m doing 🙂

hm mmm….something caught his eye on his computer screen
