Courtyard by Marriott – Clarksville, TN

Do you remember that my husband was military? Army in fact. A long time ago. Long before I was in the picture, but kind of not really. I was in the picture in high school, then I was out, and now I’m back again. Okay, anyway, moving on.

When you’re in the army, you form a brotherhood. You get brothers and sisters who have your back and they have yours. Why? Because you guys are all joining together to do one thing, defend our country and our freedoms. My husband has a couple guys who have served that purpose for him. And two of them happen to be twins. Isn’t that fun? I can also mention that in the last 2 weeks I have seen both of them… and they both live in different places.

One has recently moved about an hour from us while the other still lives at the Army base in Oak Grove, Kentucky/Ft. Campbell. If you ask my husband, that area is called Tuckasee because you are on the Kentucky/Tennessee border. In fact, the army base is in both states, it just registers as Kentucky because that’s the side the post office is on.

Anyway, I might be getting a little off topic. It happens. A couple weeks ago we headed to Metropolis, Illinois to go SCUBA diving. One of my husband’s brothers is sick. He could use all the prayers he can get, trust me! But being in Metropolis, we were only 2 hours from seeing him if that… so we schemed with his wife behind his back to show up on his doorstep to see him.

In fact, I thought it would be fun to send him random text messages of his house to show we were there. The silly guy was playing WOW so he wasn’t paying attention to his phone very much and Krissy had to make him look.

Clarksville, Tennessee

There really isn’t anywhere to stay in Oak Grove, so we went across the line into Tennessee for a hotel. Tim’s exit is 89. There are 94 in Kentucky and then you cross over the line. We went to exit 4. (more…)

Homewood Suites – Hilton – Memphis, TN

Okay so random thought on my brain right now… I’m hungry. Looking at my food posts like y’all do, is making me hungry. That could be because it is noon and I haven’t eaten since breakfast and baby girl is yelling at me to eat mommy, eat!

Anyway thought I’d pop in and tell you about the accommodations that we had while we stayed in Memphis that one night. Hubby went online and found us a really good deal to stay at the Homewood Suites which is a Hilton property there in Memphis.

Typically they are set up for extended stay visitors so the rooms are set up more like a one-room apartment. Very very nice though! Our room had a fireplace and there was a note on the table that said that you could get one log free for it, from there they could be purchased. The living room had the couch, a chair, a television, and a small table and around the corner was the kitchenette which had a full-sized refrigerator, a stove, cabinets, sink, dishes, and even a dishwasher. Dunkin’ Donuts and TV Commercials

So don’t be fooled by the power of suggestion on the TV still. When hubby and I are at home, a lot of time we try to avoid commercials if at all possible, but when you’re traveling that’s not really an option as in this case. Saturday night I saw a commercial for Dunkin’ Donuts. Now we really don’t have Dunkin’ Donuts around home so I asked if we could go and try it out. See what all the hype was about and hubby said sure. Especially since we saw one just down the road from the hotel so it wasn’t like we had to drive all over Memphis to find one. Score!

What was my big lure you might ask?? The Inspired by Baskin Robbins Iced Coffee… for sure.

Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken – Mendenhall – Memphis, TN

Sometimes it seems like I get on a roll for a certain type of blog post and this week happens to be focused around food it feels like :). That is except for Monday’s post which was all about my sweet, darling, husband!!

So as I mentioned yesterday hubby and I found ourselves in Memphis over the weekend. Now if there is one thing about us, when we travel we prefer to try and find restaurants that aren’t “chain” restaurants that we can get around home. Now that’s not to say we won’t eat at a chain restaurant, we just avoid the ones we have readily accessible at home.

When we checked into our hotel on Saturday evening hubby asked at the front desk a good place to eat in Memphis. They asked what we were looking for and hubby said something indigenous to the area. Then he explained we’re not from around here and we like to try new places. One of the gals spoke up and said her favorite place to eat was Gus’s Fried Chicken. She asked if we liked fried chicken and hubby was like, who doesn’t :). We got to the hotel around 4:30 or 5 so we took our stuff in and killed some time before we went on the hunt for Gus’s Fried Chicken on Mendenhall. By the way, it was a hop, skip and a jump away from our hotel, score!

When we walked in the hostess seated us. We placed our order and then started playing with the camera obviously 🙂

BB King’s Blues Club – Beale St – Memphis, TN

just a random thought… ewwww did you realize that today is Tax day?

************************************************

Sometimes my husband and I just might surprise you. This weekend happened to be one of those times, I think we almost surprised ourselves actually…. Um…. we went to Memphis, TN. Wait, what, are you scratching your head too? Don’t worry cause I think so are we. The closest I’d ever been to Memphis was the airport catching a connecting flight and he might have driven through but that was it. Well that is until this weekend. I do think we might need our head examined but whatever.

Hubby said he wanted to eat at BB King’s so that’s where we went for lunch on Saturday. I had no complaints because I’m not even sure what Memphis has to offer :).

When we got there, we were afraid there was a wait to get in, but it was just a big party that was standing in the doorway. Once they were seated it was our turn. We even got seated just to the side of the band. The only bad thing is it made it loud, but the band was good so it was all good :).
