2015 // A Year In Review

Wow, here we are, the last day of 2015. I’m not sure how I feel about that. I’m in turmoil if it was a good year or if it was a bad year. I’m going with good. There were some bad things I’d like to just brush over, but those are the things that work together to make you who you are, right?

So what did this year bring?
January
This year we started off January with a New Year’s Day Dive. I chickened out, but hubby dove in! Then it was time to celebrate Tbug’s birthday on the second day of the year, I guess that’s what you get when your birthday is the second day of January… We honored Veteran’s by presenting an opportunity for them to try Scuba diving. Baby girl turned 7 months old. I ended the month attending my Sister in law’s baby shower, our local dive shop went Platinum SCUBAPro dealer and forgetting to put sugar in a pan of brownies….

You’re still missed

A lot has happened in this world in the last 5 years. Tonight the world has become in turmoil again because of more terrorist attacks. But this day in history has a bit of a different meaning to me and my family. You see, 5 years ago today we lost my grandpa.

This is the song that we played at his funeral. This is the song that we all said was my grandpa. He loved nothing more than family and was there no matter who in the family needed him or how they needed him.

I miss him! In fact, that’s an understatement.

That year is the year I shared his and my grandma’s story, the next day I shared a little more to the back story, and then I got the phone call that an ambulance had been called to my grandparents house to pick my grandpa up. He died the next morning somewhere around 2-4am. I’m not exactly sure the time. And as an honor and a tribute to my grandpa, he was cremated. We asked for a handful of his ashes and we placed them on the back of Chico, his horse so that he could ride for eternity!

I miss you grandpa!

Buzz’s BBQ – Nevada, MO (plus hotel & Chiefs game)

I ate BBQ two days in a row. That never happens! But Saturday night we were headed toward Kansas City for the Chiefs game the next day and decided to stop for dinner in Nevada at Buzz’s BBQ.

There were 9 of us so we had to wait a few minutes to get a table. I took the opportunity to take pictures of some of the decor… and you know, freak out the people I was with. ha! At one point they thought I was taking a picture out the window, instead I took the picture above. haha. What can I say….

Comedy: Masculine versus Feminine….

My Wednesday night class is called British Comic Novel. The first night of class we were asked “What makes you laugh.” Seems like a very straight forward question, but try to put it in words. Then we had to give examples of our words.

The second night of class the professor summed up what we said:

We laugh…….
At the Irregular                                                and at the unexpected
The erroneous (deviation from familiar             the Cathartic (psychological reaction)
patterns and norms)
Physical                                                              release of nervous tension
Verbal                                                                 expression of surprise
psychological                                                     exlamation
intellectual (logical)
moral/ethical

The Incongruous                                               The Coincident
(juxtaposition of unlike things)                          (sudden discovery/achievement of order)
tone                                                                     congruity
appearance (features)                                          connection
situation                                                              reconcilliation
action                                                                  resolution

Since that first and second night of class we’ve been discussing different books that we’ve been required to read. The first was Joseph Andrews by Henry Fielding, the second was Cold Comfort Farm by Stella Gibbons, and the third was The Code of the Woosters by P.G. Wodehouse. (by the way we’re reading 10 books in 16 weeks… plus I have books I’m reading for comps, wish me luck!)

Last night we finished up The Code of the Woosters, being a seminar class, we’re all required to talk. That’s part of our class participation, we have to ask a question, state a comment, or feed off someone else’s comment twice.

But one of the guys offered up this… Is The Code of the Woosters masculine comedy. Whoa, that opened a whole discussion for like 20 minutes on what is masculine and what is feminine comedy. Did you know there was a difference? I didn’t. I mean once we sat and talked about it, maybe there is… but I’m not 100% sure I totally buy that either.

Some of the characteristics described for masculine comedy is slapstick/physical (think America’s Funniest Home Video’s and all the people who constantly get racked over and over) and rude/crude. And they described feminine comedy as more predicaments we could find ourselves in. It was more compared to romantic comedies.

9/11 – 14 Years Later

9/11. A date that lives on in the lives of many Americans and people world wide. A day that we thought that our world and our lives were coming to an end.

A date that I remember so vividly in my mind, where I was, especially that I watched that second plane hit the tower. Thinking that my dorm mate was watching a movie but definitely NOT sure what movie she’d be watching.

Sitting here typing this post in about the same time line as the date it happened is giving me goosebumps.

And while instances like this one happen from time to time, and people remember those dates, December 7, 1941, April 19, 1995, September 11, 2001, people remember where they were, people know them by heart, the best we can do sometimes is just cope with the date, remember the lives that were lost, remember the feelings we felt, and Pray to God for healing both for those involved, their families and our country.

This morning while I was on Facebook I saw a commercial that I remember watching during the 2002 Superbowl. For one I absolutely have a love for the Budweiser Clydesdale’s (I want to own one!) and for 2 it was such a great tribute to our country. I didn’t realize that it had only aired just once, but I wanted to share that video with you if you never had the privileged of seeing it, or if you just want to see it again!

Here is the interesting backstory to the commercial if you’re interested.

Never forget!

Sand the rest of the story, ha!

Yes, that wasn’t puny… although it was….

Okay so I blogged 12 days in a row and then fell off the face of blog land for 2 days. I can’t explain it other than I think school might just kick my butt this semester. Not only do I have classes but I have comps. Remember my mention about the book list…. ugh! But I’ll have you know I just finished Wurthering Heights by Emily Brontë.

Anyway I mentioned in our post coming home from Pensacola Beach that there was a story about us and sand and that I would share it at a future date. Today is the future date.

I’ve mentioned before that my husband and I went to high school together… we were just friends, never dated.

Our sophomore year of high school our band went to Disney World. One of the days that we were in Florida the band headed over to Cocoa Beach. That was only my second time ever going to the beach because hello… I live in a land locked state. (My first was to South Carolina 3 years previous to this trip.)

While at the beach I might have snagged a handful of sand. At the time I did it I didn’t realize I’d still have it almost 20 years later and that it would have some meaning. Meaning you ask? Well… my husband and I were at this beach at the same time as really good friends. And yes, I still have the sand… Sadly it almost got dumped one day just because I knocked over the ring box. Yes, you’d think I’d put it in a better box, but for now, that’s what it’s in and has been for years.

32 Years Young

I’m sorry, but how did I turn 32?

I was actually reading a blog post last week or maybe even the week before by Jillian and she made the comment that 32 was stupid. We’re 2 days from being the exact same age so I’m not going to lie… I think I feel the same way. Most days I wake up thinking I’m about 20 but my body feels like I’m 50ish. I’m totally cool though that I’m still having birthday’s because that means I’m on the right side of the ground.

Anyway last Thursday was my 32nd birthday!

Normally Tbug is at Cheer on Thursday nights but because it was my birthday her mom let her skip cheer to celebrate with me (and my grandma. We have the same birthday!!). So we actually picked Tbug up Wednesday evening to go to camp and then she stayed with us through Sunday. That gave us the opportunity to go meet hubby for lunch on Thursday.

As we were driving to meet him for lunch we got caught up in road construction so while we were waiting for the Pace car to come get us, we sooooo needed to take a selfie.

Just to prove I was being healthy on my birthday. Salad (with ranch dressing… yup!).

I’m not a Mommy Blogger, I’m a Lifestyle Blogger

I’m not a mommy blogger… I’m a lifestyle blogger. I think that’s the best niche you can find for me because I blog about my life and maybe even my style sometimes.

This blog post though is about my baby… and she’s part of my lifestyle right now. And I know that I’ll be sad if I forget this moment, so here I am, blogging about my Friday afternoon.

Baby girl laid down for a nap around I don’t know 12ish maybe. She fell asleep on our bed while I was editing some pictures and I decided I was hungry so I got up and went and warmed up some left over Pesto on Mozzarella ravioli pasta. I ate about half of it and then slid it off to the foot of the bed figuring that I’d either put it away later or baby girl would eat it when she woke up. Little did I know I was psychic…

About 1:20 or so I got up to go to the bathroom leaving the baby asleep on the bed. Laptop open. Remote on the bed next to the laptop. Food still at the foot of the bed. Ay yi yi…

I was in the bathroom and I hear the tv change from watching New Year’s Eve to The Talk. Oh crud the baby is up. Then I hear the fork hit the plate… Oh dear, that isn’t going to end well.

Turns out Friday afternoon was the perfect day to wash sheets. We needed clean bedding anyway…

Movie: Men in Black

Earlier this week, or maybe it was late last week, my days are kind of running together at this point as I’ve been fighting a cold, the flu, an ear infection, a cough for 4 weeks now. Okay… anyway I mentioned a few weeks ago I like the Timehop app… and no noone is telling me to mention this app…. That was an interesting paragraph… blame it on the prescription cough medicine I just took!

So I was perusing through my day through the years and at the end they give you a bit of time trivia. This just so happened to be what came up…

First off I should mention I loved this movie.

So I was in early high school when this came out. One day during the summer I was invited over to my friend Taria’s house for the day. If you remember, this is also around the same time that the N64’s came out and she had MarioKart. I had 2 controllers and that game system would hold 4 controllers so I took my 2 over, she had 2 and the tournament was on between her siblings and me.

Her parents had a huge stereo system and it had surround sound so Taria put the Men in Black CD on and away we went. One of the songs is all instrumental and playing MarioKart while hearing that particular song in surround sound made us all extremely competitive. It was hilarious and intense.

So after I heard that song I wanted the sound track. So I think it was for Christmas that year my grandma asked what I wanted and I told her I wanted the Men in Black sound track CD. Simple enough, right?

At the time we had a local Hastings store so my grandma went to Hastings to find the CD I wanted. A guy came up and asked her if he could help her locate something and she told him, yes, I want “All the Black Men CD.” And that my friends is how my family started referring to the movie as “All the Black Men”… lol :).

It’s fun stories like this that I remember so vividly about my grandma. It’s hard to believe that my grandma has been gone since September 11, 2007. I miss her every day and it upsets me so much that she was never able to meet my great family. Hubby, Tbug and Abug missed out on meeting a great lady but even more so a great lady missed out on these incredible people.

So Grandma, I know you can’t read this but know I still love and miss you! I love you!

p.s. read the bottom “fact” on the picture. Hope you laugh :). It’ll lighten the mood!

Looking Back

Have you ever used the app Timehop? No one is telling me to tell you about this… I just am because… It’s a lot of fun to look back and see everything you’ve been through. I have mine hooked up with my Instagram account, Twitter account and Facebook account. Now there are parts of my life it reminds me of that are less than steller (like the excoworker talking about my boobs in a picture.. don’t ask) but for the most part it’s a great reminder of the past. So here was my June 9 for the past few years…

The weather 1 Year ago was 70˚F and it was a Monday.

Abug baby loves cheeseburgers!! #junebaby

So I spent a lot of time pinning stuff last year, mainly for maternity photoshoots. I was soooooo into them and yet I didn’t get much of one because of problems in the hayfield :(. Oh well. I’m over it!
So if you want to see all the maternity shots I pinned, go here and here.
