The Husbandator’s Birthday

So Friday was hubby’s birthday.  Sadly I had to attend class, especially since I had a test in HEL (History of the English Language) so I didn’t get to spend extra time with him.  I’m glad though that D the Man, JT, CL & AL were able to take him to lunch.  He works from home on Friday’s so he was able to meet up with them for a quick bite.

On top of the test that I had on Friday, I had a paper due by 6pm on Saturday.  No normally we don’t have work due on Saturday’s, the teacher was being nice and gave us an extension.  But the point is, after I got done at school I went and met D the Man so he could help me start writing this paper.  No it isn’t his job or anything to help me, but I was struggling and he offered to help.

Tbug has cheer on Friday nights so I stayed and worked on my paper until it was time to go pick her up.  Toward the end I was talking about having to run to Wal-mart to get a different bag for hubby’s present because the one I got wasn’t big enough for the present.  D the Man gave me some brown paper and said, here will this work?  I said, heck yeah so I wrapped the present in the brown paper.  When I was finished he took it from me and did a wrapping job of his own.

Stress & the Loving Husband

Ah, I swear, I forgot how stressful being a college student can be some days.  Yesterday I went to class.  After class was over I decided to go home and study vs going to the library, partially because I was hungry and didn’t have any food with me.  So I drove home and pulled out all my homework.

  • British Literature: Finish book 2 of Paradise Lost, Some research & a media project.
  • Intro to Writing about Literature: I have 2 papers due in the next 2 weeks.  One is on A Doll House and the other is on Othello.  One paper will be a Classical critique and the other will be a feminist.  I get to choose which play gets which critique.  Plus I still want to do a rewrite on my first paper.
  • History of the English Language: I have a powerpoint presentation due in a couple weeks, a paper due at the end of the semester and a test next Friday.

Thinking about all of that just stressed me out so I thought I’d take a short power nap.  Yeah well… that didn’t work.  I was so tired I couldn’t keep my eyes open but at the same time I couldn’t get my nap in because all I could think of was all the work I needed to be working on.  Let’s just say it was an unproductive afternoon.

But I’d like to brag on my loving husband just a bit.  Earlier this week he knew that I was getting majorly stressed out so he stopped by the store and bought me these to perk me up.

I would like to report that I did finish my Paradise Lost stuff for today’s class though.  Woohoooo.  Up next… is it nap time yet?  Happy Friday.

Kansas City, Wicked & Buca di Beppo OH MY

Saturday morning we were up bright and early.  My parents were at our house at 8 am.  Hubby made Bacon, Egg, and Cheese Sandwiches for us and then we all loaded up the car and headed to Kansas City.

What was the reason you may ask… Well, we had tickets to go see the Broadway musical, Wicked.

Mom has seen Wicked 4 times now, I’ve seen it 3 and dad, hubby and Tbug can now say they’ve seen it once.  I haven’t shut up about this musical to hubby since he and I were dating.  Earlier this year I went on-line and was googling Shrek (which we saw on our honeymoon) because we got to talking about that.  In the process, I stumbled across the fact that Wicked was going to be in Kansas City, St. Louis, and Oklahoma City (I know KC and Ok City for sure but I think St.L too).  So we were on a mission to get tickets.  They went on sale at the end of July or the first part of August and we made sure we’d have Tbug the weekend we bought tickets.

We didn’t initially tell Tbug because we thought it would be fun to be a surprise and sometimes she gets so dang excited, but we were all so excited we let it slip.  She knew about the tickets since they were purchased.

I believe Hubby and Tbug loved it.  My dad wasn’t so thrilled, but you win some you lose some.  Hey 2 out of 3 isn’t bad, right?

Mom wanted us to take Tbug up to the plaza for dinner.  Mom really wanted to eat at Buca di Beppo for dinner so we went on-line and made reservations for dinner at 8:30.  We’d have eaten earlier but they were busy!  My suggestion, if you go there you won’t make a mistake but make reservations!  It’s that good!

And I just want to share this piece of information.  Mark your calendars to eat pasta on Friday!

After dinner I went back to the room to take a shower and mom, dad, Tbug, and hubby stopped at Coldstone Creamery.  It was funny because as I was walking into the hotel I found some money on the steps.  I took it up to the front desk and told them I found it in case anyone was looking for it.  The gal at the front desk looked at me like I had a horn growing out of my nose.  Mom, dad, and hubby said that I was just too honest.

Then we found the survey that Tbug started filling out earlier in the evening.  She’s hilarious!

And that was our Saturday.  Happy Tuesday!!

Last First Kiss

Have you ever been driving down the road in your car, by yourself, let’s say a fairly long commute and get to thinking?  I hope it’s not just me!

Recently on my commute either to or from school (can’t remember which) I started thinking about last first kisses.  When this idea popped in to my head, I was taken back to the movie Hitch with Will Smith.  You know, the one where he is a relationship coach.

Then I got to thinking about this clip right here.

“Jiggling the keys,” postponing the inevitable leave that you know will happen at the end of the date. I’ve been on dates where I really didn’t want to kiss the guy at the end of the night and didn’t.  He just didn’t do it for me apparently.  Then I’ve been on dates where if a kiss happened, well it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world I guess.  Now one thing to know about me, that my matron of honor pointed out at my wedding, is the fact that very seldom was I ever in short term relationships.  Sometimes I was tied up in the long term even if I wasn’t really wanting to be.

Change is hard sometimes and unfortunately that’s why I think I stayed around.  I come from a fairly small town (small being a relative word here).  Funny thing about that though is only once have two guys I dated been from the same town.  I kind of steered clear of my hometown, partially to avoid the drama I guess.  You know what Miranda Lambert says, everyone knows your business in a small town.

I’ve mentioned many times that my husband and I were friends in high school, but even though he asked me on a date, we never went on one and I never kissed him.

July 25, 2009 was our first official date. I had just come out of a hard relationship and I wasn’t in the mood to date anyone at the time. In fact, the furthest thing from my mind was dating. I found hubby on facebook one night and after chatting back and forth he said we should grab a drink sometime and catch up. I hadn’t been on a first date in 5 1/2 years so to say I was a bit nervous would be a bit of an understatement.  It was a scary thought.  At that time I was involved in a group of friends who we had monthly dinners and referred to ourselves as Dinner club.

I thought this would be the most opportune time to invite him. If things didn’t work out so well, the most I’d be around him was the drive to and from dinner, otherwise, I could ditch him. What can I say, I was nervous. I might be one who tries to have a back up plan although lately I swear that isn’t even an option, but that’s beside the point of this blog post.

The point is I gave him a chance. It was a hard and scary chance, but I did it. After dinner was over and I got done dragging him to the mall (only because it was Evelyn’s idea) we went to my friend J&B’s house where I proceeded to make a memorable impression on him and then finally around 1am we decided to head home. (nice run on sentence)

So we got to his mom’s house (remember he was living in KY at the time) and I went to drop him off, but we stayed in my car and chatted for a little over an hour.  By 3am I realized if I didn’t go home, I’d be exhausted the next day so I finally said I should go.  I lingered as long as I could. For some reason, I don’t remember now, I wound up getting out of the car. Being the middle of July you wouldn’t think it would be chilly, but that night there was a nip in the air so I had my arms wrapped around myself trying to keep warm. He was standing next to me but finally wrapped his arms around me to give me more heat.

At this point I really needed to go, but I was doing what Hitch told Albert girls do, I was waiting. Holding on hoping that they’ll get their last, first kiss. What’s so funny is hubby knew my past relationship debacle and was trying to give me the space that I wanted. I kind of lost all hope for that night when he finally planted a kiss on me.

That kiss was butterfly induced, giddiness, excitedness, heart doing flip flops kind of kiss.  Funny enough, it was brief but it was enough to know this guy was different.  Obviously, I went on to marry him a little over a year later :).

So for anyone out there who has experienced that last first kiss, was it magical?  For those of you who haven’t yet, I promise there is someone out there, your Albert is waiting for you! 🙂  And not saying my husband is the Albert in this movie, but I’m also saying, never write the Albert’s off in your life, they just might be the one!

I promise, this guy here does exist!

I do!

Three Years ago today I married one of my best friends.

Please play Hank Williams Jr, Blues Man

This photo was symbolic for us for the simple fact that we went to school together.  We met before we got to the high school, but our friendship strengthened once we were sophomores.  At the time our High School was 10-12, now it’s 9-12.  And sadly our high school building has become the junior high, but either way, this building is where we built upon our friendship all those years ago.  And no, sadly we aren’t “high school sweethearts” but that’s okay.  Everyone needs to build their story somehow and this is ours!

Happy Anniversary my sweet husband.  I love you with all my heart!

A Hermann We Will Go

One thing that hubby and I should have done was eaten breakfast the morning we drove to Hermann.  By the time we got there, we were hungry and immediately hit up the Hermann Wurst Haus for lunch.  We also made sure we ate enough food because we were planning on heading to Stone Hill Winery afterward to do their tour.  We’ve done the one in Branson and really wanted to see the main winery tour.

While we were waiting for the tour to start, we wandered around the gift shop.  How cute are these lanyards?  They hold your wine glass for you… sweet :). (more…)

Thursday in St. Louis

So when we woke up on Thursday, it was a cloudy, sorta rainy kind of day.  We got up and got dressed and decided to go grab breakfast at Denny’s since we knew we could get a big breakfast and not worry about lunch.

We bought tickets online to go to Six Flags.  By buying online, we got a discount but we had to wait 5 days to use them.  That put us up to Thursday.  Since it was raining on Thursday we were debating on if we wanted to use our tickets that day or not but finally decided after Tbug and had such great luck on my birthday with rain and amusement parks we decided to take our chances. AMC Dine-In Theater – St. Louis, MO

After we checked into our new hotel and got situated hubby asked what I wanted to do next.  Now, one of hubby’s fave movies right now happens to be Grown Ups.  I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen that movie, but I like it too.  So I suggested that maybe we go relax at a movie and see Grown Ups 2.  Hubby got online and found a theater within about 5 miles of our hotel, but it just so happened to be a Dine-in Theater.  What’s that you ask?  Yeah, I didn’t know either.  If you knew, just remember I might lead a sheltered life :).

You go to the movie, they give you assigned seats, you get a menu and choose what you’d like for dinner.  And truthfully, the prices of the food happen to be the same as a sit-down restaurant.  Oh and the food, yeah it’s real food, not like just a hotdog and nachos or something :).  I believe if I remember the menu, they also had popcorn, just like a regular movie.  You have servers that come around and serve you and if you need a refill or something else, you push a button and they come to you, all while enjoying your movie. White Water

One of the big reasons we took Tbug to Branson is because not only this year do we have Silver Dollar City season passes but hubby got us White Water passes as well.  We thought, June, hot, why not?!?!

White Water is fun, however I’m not sure we’ll get season passes again, I guess we’ll see.  But on a hot June day, it was a fun way to spend the day.
