Something you lost… My mind!

Have you ever felt like you lost your mind? Like seriously lost your mind? I have. So let’s paint the most recent picture…

Sunday I was reading for my Writing About the Profession class. Hubby took the girls and left the house so that it would be quite for me to read/write/do homework. Earl sent out an invite to Sunday Night dinner saying the theme was spaghetti. Well I wasn’t sure hubby would be home in time for that so I told her we’d try to make it if he ever got home.

Usually SND starts around 5pm. at 4:30 hubby calls and says he’s on his way home. I asked about Sunday night dinner and he said of course we’d go. Great nothing was made and I couldn’t think of anything really to take that I had the ingredients for, except Buttermilk Brownies.

Mmmmm Buttermilk Brownies.

So I quickly looked through the recipe to make sure I had time to bake them (couldn’t remember the bake time) and if I hurried we’d be a few minutes late but they just live around the corner so all should be good, right?

Famous last words…..

So I threw the ingredients together, got them in the oven and started hoping for the best.

About 8 minutes in to the 15-20 minute baking time, hubby came in the house and said something to me and I saw the sugar sitting on the counter. Immediately I had a DOH moment and realized I DIDN’T PUT THE SUGAR IN THE BROWNIES. Holy crap how in the heck did I forget to do that?

Leave it to me… Needless to say I took them anyway, they weren’t bad, just weird texturally and we added ice cream to the top and YUM! :). Ice cream makes everything better!

Socks are overrated

So have I told you that my sister in law is pregnant. In fact, her due date is coming up quickly. I’m hoping she holds out until at least February 1st because she’s soooooo anti purple that it’ll give the baby a purple birth stone. Yup, I’m vindictive like that :). Oh and I haven’t called her old in this post yet. She’s old. Hey, she picks on my hair… I call her old. It’s called family!

Saturday was her baby shower. She asked me to come and snap some pictures and we all know how much I hate taking pictures (please read the sarcasm there. We need a sarcasm font!). There were friends and family. There were balloons galore. There were snacks. There was cake. And there were presents. Oh and there were games.

Game #1 – Everyone got a pin to wear. You couldn’t say the word baby. If you did and someone caught you, you lost your pin. I lost mine sorta willingly to Tbug… then I could say baby without thinking about it.

Game #2 – The Diaper game. They melted 6 different candy bars in diapers and you had to guess what they were. yuck!

Game #3 – They passed toilet paper around and you had to take the amount that you thought would fit around Liss. I might add that Tbug was a winner.

Game #4 – Put a note card against your head and draw a baby.

One present to note is the fact that my baby girl got her baby girl hangers. But we put special thought into this present. They were purple hangers. Now… we might have taken the packaging off and traded out a couple of the purple hangers for pink hangers so she couldn’t repackage them and take them back. Yup, the purple war is on :). Oh and instead of cards, she asked for books with writing on the inside. So…. it just so happens that the book we got her, the inside cover is purple. I love purple and she makes fun of me. I keep telling her that her baby girl may like/love purple someday and she can’t deny the baby of that color. And then again she may hate it but it’s her decision to make.

Oh and the title. Were you wondering about the title? I’m sooooo glad you asked. She got one set of socks at the shower and said that is one thing she really hasn’t gotten this far. My friend Cassie said that socks are the death of new mothers and I blurted out that socks are overrated and the best bet is to buy footed jammies. I’m not kidding. You’ll put socks back on those feet 100,333,333,333,444,455,667,234,654 times per day. Footed jammies, those puppies don’t come off. Just saying :).

And that would be the overview of the baby shower. Next up… baby’s a comin.

10 Things to Smile About January

1. It’s fun to think that hubby and I have been together for 5 1/2 years. Now that might not be long for most people but it truly excites me. Part of the reason is in just a few short days he’ll be my longest relationship on record and I’m totally okay with that!

2. Tbug turned 12. Dang, where has the time gone? I’ve been in her life (or she’s been in mine…) for almost 6 years now. It’ll be 6 years the first part of August. Want the exact day? Friday July 31st, 2009. So I guess the end of July to be exact. That night she introduced me as her daddy’s girlfriend even though we weren’t dating at the time, we’d just been on a date…

3. I went to the New Year’s Day dive but I chickened out this year when it came to actually diving… it was cold that day!

4. We had a day honoring Veterna’s with a Try Scuba Day.

5. I got to be involved in an extremely worthy cause give away.

6. Baby girl’s hair went up in pigtails and she was a hoot. I swear it changed her personality and she has a pretty great personality without the pigtails!

7. My baby girl turned 7 months old, although I think I want to cry at that too. She’s growing up way to fast. She’s going to be 20 before I know it. Why I picked 20 who knows. and that would be referring to years not months. months will definitely come faster than years! okay I’m going to stop now before I start crying!

8. I got a new phone case. It feels different than my other one so I’m not 100% sure how much I like it but I love the picture on it!

9. I went to my Sister in law’s baby shower. (btw, if you’re reading this, you’re old. hey I have to get my jabs in when I can. And if you aren’t here and reading this… she picks on my hair.)

10. Here’s a good laugh for you. I swear I”m losing my mind. I made these Brownies for Sunday Night Dinner. Yeah I was in a hurry trying to get them in the oven so that they’d bake… I completely forgot to put sugar in them. So we had sugarless brownies. They weren’t bad but the texture was a bit off… but ice cream solved the whole thing.

2011 – Sad Day
2010 – There wasn’t one.

Recipes made from the Blog This Week
++I was lazy this week :)++ Well I didn’t cook anything I’ve blogged about. I actually cooked things…

Week’s Happenings
++This was a weird week what with Monday off and all. That kind of made me lose track of days.
++One of my husband’s cousins (by marriage??) lost their little boy this week. He was just a few days shy of 3. I don’t know the details really and I didn’t ever meet those family members so I never knew the little boy but please keep the family in your prayers.
++Another one of hubby’s cousins (sister to the parents of the little boy) lost their house to a fire this week so please keep them in your prayers as well.
++Today is my SIL’s baby shower. I guess she had a bit of a scare this week due to her age when involved with this pregnancy but all came out okay.
++I usually give my SIL fits about being old… I refrained when she posted about that on facebook. Every now and then I can be nice, right? (btw, if you’re reading this Liss, you’re old 😉 haha)
++I just had to throw that in there… couldn’t resist.
++Hubby ordered me TurboFire this week. 2 of my friends have done it, one is Jill, she did awesome about it and blogged the results. The other is Brittin, she is actually signed up to be a coach? or something like that. I don’t really know. We’ll see if I can shed this baby weight with that.
++I’d like to shed the weight I gained that is still hanging around, but I’d also like to tighten up and maybe even drop a few more pounds.
++My group of friends, we absolutely LOVE to watch/quote the NFL Bad Lipsinking video on Youtube. Earl told me I needed to watch the 2015 one the other night. It’s good but still not as good as the first… SKUNK! An Orange Peanut? For me? Well I accept you!
++And that’s all she wrote boys and girls.

Friday Five

Five Thoughts on this Friday:

  1. I didn’t have school on Monday because of Martin Luther King Jr.’s Birthday. I really don’t remember getting this day off last year but I’ll take it!
  2. You know I think baby girl hasn’t fallen asleep in my arms since she was a widdle (little) baby. Tuesday I was sitting at my parents house for a few minutes before I had to leave for school and she took a snooze in my arms. I just sat there and soaked it up. She’ll sleep in my mom and my MIL’s arms but not mine.
  3. Wednesday we put her hair up in pigtails. OMG, that totally changed her personality! Wow she was full of it! It was soooo adorable, cute, funny, hilarious, and every other describing word you can think of!
  4. I started working on making her baby food yesterday and the things I needed to process it up were in the dishwasher. I forgot so right before bed I jumped in the shower (our nightly routine, I shower first, then Abug and hubby jump in, then I take Abug and lotion/diaper/dress her, hubby finishes his shower then she eats and we all crash), hubby went to make her bottle and had to finish up her food for her. She was screaming her head off when I got out of the shower.
  5. Normally she wakes up somewhere between 6 and 8 in the morning for her morning feeding. This morning started at 5. Does that mean this day is off?

Five Photos:

Someone found their tongue this week I guess. Dang, it has spent more time out of her mouth than in it.

we went to the store this week with grandma and forgot the stroller or front carrier so she got to ride in a shopping cart like a big girl. Dang, please quit growing up so fast!

At Sunday Night Dinner we were playing Domino’s so Morgan decided to take baby girl. When we walked into the living room, this is how we found them.

These pigtails brought out a whole new personality in this sweet girl.

I got a new phone case for my phone this week. I thought it was really cute and fun, especially since I like cameras :).

p.s. don’t forget about this giveaway going on!!

The day you started blogging. What were you thinking?

I have been blogging now for 5 years. Do you remember that first post? Probably not because I didn’t have one single follower at the time. And let me tell you, it was a doozy. I really want to say that my first follower happened to be Lindsay. I can’t guarnatee she was the first but I know she was right up at the top.

And I’ve mentioned before that I woke up that morning, saw a friend had started a blog (which he only wrote on once) and I wondered what a blog was. I went over to blogger.com, signed up to see what all the hoopla was about and pretty much was hooked since then.

At that time I didn’t know you needed a blog name so mine was Nicole J. Real original huh? Maybe I should have done my research. Since then my blog has changed names a couple times. It’s been, That’s Life, Life’s a Beach and now Midwestern at Heart. I think I’ve finally found my home with my blog at Midwestern at Heart.

I didn’t know at that time that you needed a niche for blogging. So I just started writing. I’m pretty sure I have and still fall into lifestyle blogging with some Agriculture mixed in there because let’s be honest, I have a passion for Ag.

So I wish I could go back in time and realize what I was really thinking. But I have no idea. I just know it was before work and because of Daniel.

I am just sooooo glad that I started that day because I’ve learned so much and gained so many great friends, plus it has opened a lot of doors for me I never thought I’d know about or sadly care about. There have been times I’ve wanted to quit. Times I’ve been frustrated. Times I’ve loved it so much. Pretty much all feelings you can have. And I’m always glad that I stuck it out in those moments of quit because I have this awesome “scrapbook” of ideas/thoughts/events in our lives and it’s all written down.

But now I need to leave you with that because I have cranky baby on my hands and please someone send a life boat, I might need it 🙂 (just kidding….)

p.s. Don’t forget about the giveaway going on… it’s for a Great cause!

A Worthy Cause & Giveaway!

Did anyone else realize that it is Tuesday? It sooooooo feels like Monday but I guess that’s because yesterday felt like Sunday to me even though I know Sunday was the day before yesterday because we went to church. Wow, how’s that for a long sentence.

So have you been paying attention to the different events going on around the country? Dang! There’s a 17 year old in NC who killed her 26 day old baby because he was a pain in her backside basically. Then there’s a couple in Maryland who are in the line of fire because they let their kids go to the park. 2 questions…

  1. How has the world changed sooooooo much since we were kids?
  2. That’s how things are here in the US, is it like this around the world?

Anyway, people like Stephanie from In Her Lens give me hope for the way this world is going. She’s going to be shaving her head on March 7th in honor of curing childhood cancer research. Childhood cancer research sadly does not always receive the funding it needs, an issue that needs to be addressed.  To help raise funds Stephanie decided to reach out to a few bloggers (including me) to see if we would donate items for a giveaway.  There is one mandatory entry for the giveaway, and that is donating $5.00.  Which not only goes to an amazing cause, but the giveaway is worth more than $5.00!  In fact, it is worth about $80.00!
