Dos Gringos, a Short walk from Will Rogers – Ft. Worth Texas

One of my absolute favorite things about going to Ft. Worth is all the food we get to eat that we don’t have around home.  I know, but I’m a foodie so it’s ok!

So being at the Will Roger’s Coliseum for an entire day watching the show leaves you with a few options for food.  Leave and lose your parking spot, which they seem to be getting harder to come by!  Eat over-priced Coliseum food, which it’s not bad but still… Or walk down the road to Dos Gringos and have Tex-Mex!

Obviously as you can see we chose option 3.  Besides Dos Gringos is good!

It was misting & sprinkling the day we went so I wasn’t able to get a very good shot of the outside of the building, but this sits outside the window I was sitting at.  Very cool!  Now they can come and do this design in my yard!!  Totally love it!

Like any good Mexican or Tex-Mex grill restaurant they start you off with Chips and Salsa.  What’s cool about their chips is they cover them in chili powder.  It gives them just an extra kick!  This particular day we got free Queso – Read below to see how!!

Happy Birthday to my Daddy!

Today is my daddy’s birthday.  You have no idea how much I’d love to tell you what we got him, however, he does read my blog every so often so I can’t take the chance that the birthday boy will see this post.

But I just wanted to let you know that today is my daddy’s birthday.

Happy birthday to one of my biggest Hero’s, Supporters and Fans,

My daddy!

Beat the Heat, We’re Scorching in the Midwest

With the temperatures scorching us here in the Midwest (We’re supposed to see 100 today!), I wanted to share this great little Ice Cream place that’s just around the corner (You know, depending on where you live…).
A few weekends ago we went out to lunch with my parents.  When we were leaving the restaurant my dad asked me if I liked Anderson’s Ice Cream.  I told him I didn’t know what that was.  He said, Ok we’ll go.

So we all hopped in the truck and headed toward Redings Mill.  I must admit, I didn’t know there was an ice cream shop in Redings Mill, but it is located in the same building as The Candy House.

Ok so I’d never been to the Candy House either.  Yeah I’m cool like that :).

We entered through the Candy House and oh my goodness, if you are a chocolate lover, this is your paradise!  I’m not kidding they had tons of chocolate in there as well as a few sweets too.  We were greeted by a sweet lady who offered us a sample.  We were all so stuffed from lunch that all but my dad turned her down and then my mom, husband and I decided we needed a piece too.

Johnboat Caf’e – Duenweg, MO

This last weekend we were out driving around looking for tractor & baler parts.  It was about lunch time and we passed by this restaurant.  It has been there since February of 2011, but we’ve never eaten here.  In fact, we were discussing that amongst ourselves when we passed by headed west.  On our way back east we talked about it more and dad turned in the driveway.

He said, you know, we’ve seen this for quite some time now and never tried it, partially because your mom won’t let me, so let’s try it, what do you say.  Well hubby and I were up for it so in we turned.

40 Years….

So today, my father has worked for this company for 40 years.  Wow, that’s a really long time!  My mom is out of town for work so we celebrated this milestone last week before she left town with lunch with his co-workers & mom, hubby and me too :).

ignore the blurry phone photo!

So his boss compiled a list of things that happened the year my dad was hired.  Um… this was before I was born, so I had to look some of these up and some of these people.  I went ahead and included links (yes, I included links for things I knew too, I was on a google roll!)

Happy Father's Day

It is:

Father’s Day

Happy Father’s Day to my Daddy:

And a Happy Father’s Day to my wonderful Husband:

And Happy Father’s Day to my wonderful Father-in-law

And I would also like to remember my Grandpa S & my Grandpa J (In that order) on this day for celebrating Father’s.  I hope they have Father’s Day in heaven because you deserve to be honored too!

I hope all the Father’s, Soon to be Father’s and so on have a wonderful Father’s Day!

So CA Girl introduced me to a new tradition, that she was also introduced to.  It is the Red Plate Tradition.

Basically anything special and anyone special you want to honor (birthdays, graduations, FATHER’S DAY) you let them eat off a red plate.  She googled it because there is a poem that goes with it and she shared the poem with me, so I thought I would share the poem with ya’ll.  I plan on starting this tradition every chance I get.

May today be one of many red letter days
Times you’ll remember in so many ways
This gift is a tradition for you to start
A gift of love, straight from the heart
On days that are special that you’ll want to
Recall
Set out the red plate to celebrate it all
Honor the person and their great feat
On this special plate, let them joyously eat
It may be a birthday, promotion, good grade
A Little League win or wise choice that was made
May your years together as husband and wife
Bring you countless special days throughout your life
These wonderful times will come and go
Keep the red plate at the ready as your blessings flow

November 25, 1978

A short year after their marriage on June 10, 1950 their family of 2 became a family of 3, mother, father & son.  2 years later they added 2 more but not wanting an un-even number of kids 2 years after that they rounded out the family with their 4th child.  This family of 6 lived in rural southwest Missouri on a working dairy farm.  As the kids grew older, they helped with farm chores of rounding up the cattle for milking, milking or just checking the cattle to make sure they were all where they should be and problem free.  Along with the milk cows they had Hereford cattle and of course their trusty horses.

Meanwhile in Southern Michigan the family of three expected their first child [together] a little over a year after their marriage on September 4, 1954.  She was followed 3 years later by her younger sister.  This family was into the horse business and went all over the state showing horses.

As the son grew up his grandmother wanted him to go off to college somewhere.  She told him he needed to get into the Engineering field, but he had different dreams, he wanted to be a veterinarian.  Toward the latter years of his high school education his grandmother took him to Colorado with her while visiting some friends.  She wanted him to see the Colorado State University.

Eventually the son would attend Southwest Missouri State College for his first two years and planned to transfer to MU – Columbia to join their veterinarian program.  Life took him on a different route and he eventually transferred back to Missouri Southern State College to finish out a Biology degree.

When the daughter hit her Junior year of high school, the family decided to move to Missouri.  The father had had enough of the cold Michigan winters and wanted to move somewhere warmer.  They had some fellow Arabian horse breeders that moved to southwest Missouri that they came to visit and decided this is where their family would move so they picked up and headed south.  She finished out her high school years and graduated.  She had dreams of going off to school and living in the dorms but her father thought differently.  He finally agreed that if she got a scholarship he’d allow her to live on campus at Missouri Southern State College and away she went. Happy Birthday Daddy

So I was planning on posting this last Saturday b/c well that was actually my dad’s birthday but me being the bonehead I am, didn’t get it done.  My grandpa had his gall-bladder removed and we spent the afternoon at the hospital and then went with my parents to see Secretariat and out to dinner.  So I’ve had all week to post this and again, haven’t done it… I’m apparently still being a bonehead.  Sorry!

Words can’t even begin to explain how important to me that my dad is!
