Pool, Friends, Food, Running, what more could you ask for?

Sunday Night Dinner took a spin this weekend by moving to our house.  It was pool party night.  Now if you look at our pool in these photos, it looks cloudy.  We got our cover on late last year so we got a bunch of acorns and leaves in the bottom.  Heck we even found a patio chair in the bottom of the pool.  Yeah cool huh?  Along with that we found a Red Solo Cup so we claimed that someone was drinking in the bottom of the pool… lol.

Anyway, one of the awesome things about the group of friends we have, is there are certified Scuba Divers in the group, so that means, when hubby asked JT to come over and help clean the pool, they actually used scuba gear to get to the bottom of the pool.  I love my group of friends.  We may be friends, but we’re more like family!

While hubby and JT were cleaning, Moo and Waldy were having fun swimming.  This is quite the feat for Moo.  We’ve been working with her every year on swimming.  By the end of the night we had her jumping off the diving board with noodles and swimming to the deep end along the side of the wall without the life jacket! Woot!

Waldy is grounded from the diving board, so he was jumping off the side into the deep end.

Can you tell where the 2 scuba divers are?

And then JT accidentally came up under hubby.  It was quite comical.

We usually call dinner at 5, but we don’t usually eat until closer to 6.  While we were finishing up the food, Pokey went into the office and was using hubby’s reloading equipment.

Faye & Uncle B brought pizza.  That was used as the appetizer and I actually didn’t even get any of it.  I know there was pepperoni but from there, I couldn’t tell you what were in either box really.

JT brought French Onion Dip and a few different types of chips.

Hubby & I smoked some Pork Tenderloin.

Diver Girl brought baked Beans.

Mr T brought Linguini with Chicken

And 2 kinds of Potato Salad – Red at the request of Earl, heck yeah!  It’s the best

And the Mustard based type.

No one knew of any dessert that was coming so I whipped up a quick batch of brownies.  {Recipe soon to follow}

Monkey got a new life vest to swim with.  Her daddy put her off into the deep end but she hated it because the water was soooooo cold.  Which we’re on well water so that makes our water quite a bit chillier anyway, then we had to pump more in after hubby and JT were cleaning on the pool.  Finally Monkey got Uncle B to jump in.  Later, Mr. T got in with the scuba gear and the meter read that it was 67 degrees in the pool.  Brrrrr!

We were all discussing the C25K event again and around 8pm, we all decided that we’d run home, get running clothes and meet back up at the Lake and walk/run – train for the C25K and so that’s exactly what we did.

It was a nice, balmy 72 degrees outside.

And we’re off.  The lake was extra crowded this weekend because of the kids fishing day, normally it isn’t quite so crowded, but this picture is mainly us.

See, you just never know what this crazy bunch of people will get into next 🙂  Hang on and enjoy the ride is all I can tell you!

Sunday Night Dinner Grillin Style

This week’s Sunday Night Dinner theme was Grillin’ Night.  Bring a side dish.  I looked at hubby and said I’d get on TB’s good side and Pokey too.  Hubby said he’d make smoked beans.  After mulling over that for a while with Earl hubby said he’d make smoked cabbage instead if we’d prefer.  We both said yup!

Hubby decided to make both.  On the way over to Earl’s house the disposable pans started collapsing and hubby had beans all over his lap.  He wound up having to go back home and change.

Zman walked into the kitchen saying he had a loose front tooth.  Earl said she could get it out for him.  We tried to get before pictures but he wasn’t totally cooperating.  I promise we weren’t hurting him.

Earl bribed him by giving him a $5 bill to hold.  Said if he’d allow her to pull the tooth, he could keep the money.  So they were talking about TB and his head and then I heard the tooth hit.  Zman looked at Earl and said do you have it out yet?  She’s like yup, it’s out.

And then he was all for getting his picture taken.  Awe, he and Moo match now.

Meanwhile outside Mr. T was grilling up the burgers for dinner.

While Mr. T was busy grilling, Uncle B was busy entertaining the kiddo’s with Pokey’s Mule Baby Doll.

Mac was busy entertaining the kiddo’s here who were waiting for their turn with Baby Doll and Uncle B.

Then Monkey had to give up her seat to Miss Tude and she wasn’t real happy about that, especially since her daddy was walking them around.

So Monkey convinced her Uncle Pokey to lead her around by herself after everyone else was off.

TB walked into the kitchen and saw the TB Dip as it is affectionately called round these parts (Mozzarella Cheese Dip).  He looked at me and asked if it was TB dip.  I grinned and he planted it infront of the dip.

Zebra girl jumped in to help finish off the Mac & Cheese while Earl was helping Zman.

Once Mr. T got the burgers done, it was time to get all the food set out and ready.

Cheese for the plain burgers.

Onions, Lettuce, Tomatoes, & Avocado for burger toppings as well as Mayo, Mustard and Ketchup.

Smoked Cabbage.

Smoked Beans.

While we were eating dinner, Yogi Bear the movie was on.  I’ve never seen this and soooo need to actually sit down and watch it from front to end.  I so loved the cartoon.

For dessert we had the choice of Cake (which I got no pictures of), cookies, or Earl’s homemade fudge sauce on top of ice cream.  I only ate the fudge and ice cream because wow was it good.  Definitely what I needed.

After dinner Hubby and Pokey went out to start a fire.  (side note, we actually hit and broke a record low Sunday night that was set back in the 1940’s)

The we all migrated outside.  I came out a bit after everyone else and came in to the middle of Scooter getting in trouble with Faye & Louise because he was poking fun at them running a 5K.  So now it’s on… they’re running a 5K together just to prove to Scooter and now Mr. T that it’ll be done.

Baby Doll was out in the pasture looking at all of us wishing that the kiddos would come ride her again.

The puppies pooped out.  Usually when one naps, they all nap.

But then Pokey got their attention by announcing dinner time to them.  The cat even joined in to help them clean up their food.

And that concludes another episode of Sunday Night Dinner.

The Living Room Update

So as I told you the other day, Pokey and Earl are remodeling their house, again.  I really wish I’d have gotten pictures of the garage before they even started cleaning on it but Earl didn’t even get any.  Oh well, I’m their paparazzi so I made sure they’ve gotten pictures since :).

This morning they promised hubby breakfast if he’d come and help do the electrical work on the house.  I didn’t know there was breakfast involved or I’d have come to help as well. ha!

By the time I got to the house this morning I saw that they were putting in the support pole.  Sadly, Pokey sent Earl, TB and me to the store to get a cedar pole.  Earl called to make sure they had the pole and check the price.  The guy on the phone told her.  Then Pokey called back to double check because it seemed too good to be true.  He got the same answer.  We got over there, wound up with Pine which is what the guy on the phone quoted, came home and we were wrong.  So now they’re going to wrap the pole in cedar.  Ah, one hit after another.

We also met the boys at another store looking for ceiling fans.  Woohooo that worked out great.

Once we got back to the house with the pole, the boys went back to work, placing the pole.

A Remodel Project

Welcome to Earl and Pokey’s new living room.  Some may also call it a Family room.  Call it as you please.

Oh, wait, you don’t think this looks like a cool place to hang out?  Well never fear!  This is the latest remodeling project that they’ve taken on.  Since we’ve been hanging out at their house they’ve remodeled their current living room floor and the bathroom.  Both have been extremely difficult projects.  But never fear we’re here to help.  Oh in their house, they’ve also remodeled their kitchen and maybe their bedroom.  I can’t remember but this was prior to hubby and I hanging out with them.

Let's Make Sweet Tea

So pretty much every Sunday Night Dinner post talks about making Sweet tea and I wondered just how many people out there don’t know how to make it?  Probably no one but still, I’m going to share with you how we make it for Sunday Night Dinner.

Ok so we all use Lipton Cold Brew Iced Tea bags.  Now Earl and I accidentally found out one night that if you put hot water it makes them go faster, but we prefer doing the cold water brew.  You’ll need 4 bags.

You’ll want a One Gallon pitcher and some cold water.

Earl taught me if you keep the paper on the end of the Tea bags (you know what covers the actual bag) it keeps weight and holds the teabags from falling to the bottom.  Smart chica!  Anyway you put your 4 teabags into the gallon of water and let it brew to the desired taste/color.  Then pull your teabags out and squeeze them out so you get the most out of your teabags.

Next you’re going to add the sugar.  See no simple syrup needed here.  We usually do 1 cup sugar to 1 gallon water.  This is the absolute best stirrer I’ve found, however if you don’t have one, just get a really long spoon and stir the sugar into the tea mixture.

And that’s it.  Start to finish, probably less than 10 minutes as long as you don’t forget you’re brewing tea… Hubby and I forget sometimes.  Then add some ice to your glass and pour your tea.  Store the rest in the fridge so it’s nice and cold!

Happy Sunday, we’re headed to Sunday Night Dinner this evening.  Happy Mother’s Day!

SND – You never know what to expect

Ah, the famous Sunday Night Post.  I know, we’re real famous but hey, it’s my blog, I can believe we are :).

One thing we like is our Sweet Tea.  We go through a bunch of it, so Earl tries to stay on top of it by brewing extra, but don’t worry, when we run out hubby and I help make more 🙂

Pokey came in and was told there was 30 minutes before dinner.  He didn’t like that so he found himself a snack.  I have no idea what he’s munching on though…

I was sitting at the table and looked into the living room and saw Waldy watching Duck Dynasty.

About the time Earl called dinner ready Moo came in telling me that Tbug was taking a puppy home with her, Pokey said it was ok.  I was like, no I’m sorry but we already have 3 dogs at our house.  We don’t need another one.  So then I was informed she was taking it to her mom’s house.  I asked if she asked her mom and the answer was no, go figure :).

Sissy was laying down feeding the puppies and then stood up.  They were determined little puppies!

And here I am getting the puppy eyes.  I think she and Earl made a deal where they have a mutual dog that stays at Earl’s house… but I’m not sure.  They wouldn’t inform me of all the details.

They sent Waldy out to get the boys who were shooting and he didn’t come back and they were still shooting so I wandered down to make sure they knew it was dinner time.  While it was our dinner time, it was also the horses & the mule’s dinner time as well.

I got down there and they were playing Battleship and just had to finish it up.  So I left them to shoot and clean up and I went back up to the house.

Diver Girl made Burrito Enchiladas.  Yum!  Now she was super nice and left some without beans for those of us, hint hint me, who don’t like beans.  She used Red Ranchero Sauce and the Verde Sauce.  Pokey mentioned he didn’t like either so she made him some special burrito’s without any sauce.  Just cheese.

We also had taco meat for tacos.

And fresh fried tortilla shells.

You could also have chips or crispy tacos.

I made cheese dip which was really good but we all kind of forgot about it and burned the bottom.  Woops!  It was still super yummy!

And how about some refried beans.  Yuck imo but most people like them 🙂

All the fixin’s for your taco.

Then there was dessert.  The Cinnamon Sugar Tortillas.

And Chocolate Covered Strawberries.  YUM!  Earl & AL did awesome on these!

After dinner Mr. T got talked into trimming Earl’s Lilac bush.

Then Earl told us that TB got tired of hitting his head when going down the slide so he cut the board just enough for his head to not hit.  Do you see the board cut in 2 :).  Such a great kid!

Earl looked over and asked Pokey when he’d get the trees out of the yard and Pokey informed her it was “Yard decoration.”  Sometimes we all just need to remember these great things!

And to end the night AL actually put an arrow through the barbed wire fence.  Literally! 🙂  Try that again!

Here's to the Future

Like many of us, I am a creature of habit.  It is comfortable when things go the same way, day in and day out.  Get up, go to work, come home, do my workout, play with the pooches, eat dinner, spend time with hubby, throw in some horse back riding and time with the {step}daughter, and then get up and do it again the very next day.  It makes life feel easy.  Yes, we have our obstacles thrown in there on a daily or weekly or monthly basis, but at the same time, those are fairly regular as well.

Lately though, a storm has been brewing in these parts, waiting to unleash its fury on the people who are near.  I don’t really want to talk much about it just yet, and don’t worry, my marriage is still very strong, so no worries there, but at the same time, a whole new chapter in my life is about to unfold.

It’s very edgy, very scary, and truthfully I have no idea which way it will lead me.  Possibly any person in their right mind would want to jump ship, but that’s not an option.  I can reassure you though, that I have the absolute best husband, {step}daughter, parents, family and friends that a girl could possibly ever need or want.  They all stand behind me 100% and back my every whim.

Although to say I’m scared sh*tless would be quite the understatement.  I am nervous.  I am scared.  I’m not real sure what the outcome is going to be, which makes it even more nerve racking.

You may or may not have noticed that I kind of disappeared late last week, but I just didn’t know how to put words and thoughts together.  I’m still not quite sure, but if nothing else, I’m sure it will be one heck of a ride.

And to that, Early and I toasted to the future.

The Shack: Nacho Night

Nacho night was a big hit in my opinion.

Everyone was told to bring Tortilla chips, I’d say we faired nicely, especially since there are more than what’s in this photo.  Now we have chips for a while.

Liss brought Cheese dip that had white cheese in it.

Angela brought Spinach Artichoke Dip.  Yum!

Sunday Night Dinner Photo Heavy!

If you happen to be any type of hunter, you’ll know that it is Turkey season.  Hubby, Pokey, TB and Mr. T got up at some unheard of hour (5am) and went out to the wilderness to find a turkey.  They didn’t have any luck though.  I woke up at 8am and I didn’t quite feel right.  They had to take Pokey back to his house and then TB, Mr. T and hubby came to our house to see if they could rustle up some turkeys.  Long story short, no turkeys were found and hubby stayed with me.  Then Mr. T and TB took hubby’s truck back to Pokey and Earl’s house.

This weeks theme for SND was Smoked Ribs plus sides.  Earl brought the ribs to our house, but hubby had plans to meet the boys at Earl’s and target practice, so hubby decided to take the smoker to Earl’s.  Since Mr. T took the truck and my car won’t haul the smoker, this is what hubby came up with…

Since I didn’t feel so hot earlier in the morning Hubby and Earl wouldn’t allow me to do much… lol… so when I left, I found Rio hanging out in the yard I should have been mowing.

When I got over to Earl & Pokey’s, hubby was taking the ribs out to smokeSND had to be a bit earlier this week than normal because they had a birthday party to go to later in the evening, so hubby had to get the ribs on earlier than normal.

Earl and I helped carry ribs out to the smoker, then while I was standing out there I found confetti from last year (read that a year ago) Easter when we made confetti Eggs.  I thought that was funny.  Sorry Earl and Pokey!  Wonder if that stuff will be there in 10 years??

Earl and Pokey’s BBQ grill went to pot, so TB brought the loader up to take it away with and then hubby and the kiddo’s jumped on the four wheeler and went down to help unload it.  Boy, the kiddo’s loved that four wheeler.  When hubby then got off to check on the ribs, Moo kept asking me to take them on a ride.

I decided this must be a lazy day for everyone, because not only did I not feel well, but Pokey got a headache and went in the house and laid on the couch while watching the 1st season of Duck Dynasty.  While I was standing outside with hubby again checking on the ribs, I noticed the piggies had the same idea.  But it totally cracked me up that one was sleeping in the feed trough.  I guess you can call it a lot of things, but late for dinner is not one of them!

After hubby got a good fire going with the ribs, he, TB and Mr T went down to shoot.  Later JT & AL showed up.  AL came in the house but eventually wound up down at the shoot practice.  Then when I got down there they were just cleaning up.  No, shooting practice for me, oh well, I was shooting my camera anyway 🙂

One thing we can down on a SND is Sweet Tea!

I decided to make Mozzarella sticks for SND.  While I was sitting at the table breading my cheese, Miss Tude brought me a flower.  Sweet right!?!?  Now keep in mind, she’s 3 years old.  We were talking about where her daddy was (Mr. T) and she said he was down shooting the boys.  I was like, you mean he’s shooting with the boys.  She was just positive that he was “Shooting the boys”.

A cute thing about drinks.  I wound up having to run back home for stuff to make my cheesesticks and while I was there I grabbed myself a cup of Cherry Limeade.  When I got back to Earl’s she asked if I liked Iced coffee.  I told her I wasn’t sure so she poured me a cup, so I had 2 drinks sitting in front of me.  Miss Tude was talking to me the whole time I was breading the cheese and she looked at me and said:

Miss Tude: You have 2 drinks?
Me: Yes.
Miss Tude: Did your mom say you could have 2 drinks?
Me: (containing giggles) My mom doesn’t know I have 2 drinks.
Miss Tude: Did you get that one drink from your mom’s house?
Me: No, I don’t live with my mom.  I got it from my house.
Miss Tude: Who do you live with?
Me: I live with my husband.  You know, the guy you were riding the four wheeler with?  He’s my husband and I live with him.
Miss Tude: Oh you live with him because he’s so cute?

We told Mr. T about this conversation and he was fairly certain he might need to have a talk with Miss Tude about boys… lol 🙂

AL brought baked beans.

Earl made a Hash Brown Casserole with her Gluten Free Cream of Mushroom soup so it was Moo & AL friendly.  Soooo good.  I may or may not have had 3 servings.  Hey don’t judge, they were only serving spoon size!!

The ribs.  We had Beef & Pork.

Niah & Jay brought Hawaiian Rolls.  We definitely had to break out the Strawberry Jam that Moo made.  Yum!

So after dinner I spotted one of the little piglets running around the yard.  I ran out to snap a few shots.  Eventually the curious thing walked up to me and about the time I snapped the picture he touched my foot and I jumped which scared him.  We scared each other… lol.

It was such a gorgeous day!  The high was 69 so none of us wanted to really stay in doors.  Waldy was swinging and Little butt kept getting in his way so she could play in the mud.  I pointed at the other swing and told her to play in the mud under it.  Next thing I knew, she decided to “swing”.

Then we had a pig chase on our hands.  Pokey had been moving the piglets into a different pen, but couldn’t catch the one I snapped a photo of earlier in the day so Diver Girl, TB and Waldy decided to catch the pig for Pokey.  They finally got the piglet caught and put into the right pen.

Next they got the bows out for some practice with that.  Just as Jay and Niah went to leave, they talked Jay into trying.  He’d never shot a bow before and hot dawg, we decided he was born to shoot a bow.  Then they were teaching Niah.  They even tried to “tempt” baby D.

Ok how cool is this shot of all 4 boys lined up to shoot!  Seriously!  And once they shot, then they had to go gather their arrows.

Toward the end, we even had Earl shooting hers.

About the time that Earl & Pokey and the kids needed to be heading to their Birthday party, hubby loaded the four wheeler in the truck to take back home.  TB was so shocked that hubby loaded it backwards.

And a few more random shots throughout the day:

1.  Miss Tude holding Moo’s cup for her.
2.  Zebra Girl was hiding from the camera so I made it a point to get her picture.
3. Miss Tude was helping Earl by pulling the “weeds” out of the ground.
4. Waldy was playing with the remote control car and running it under everyone’s feet 🙂
5.  Little butt was giving the puppy kisses. (she’s 2)
6.  Earl had all her girls.
7.  Yum! Chocolate covered strawberries!!
8.  I was told I look flat out mean in this photo 🙁
9.  Early and Nicole 🙂
