Quilt Block 5

I found my sewing bag and took it down to grandmas. I had a bunch of material in the bag some of which was hubby’s old uniforms that I cut into different squares. My goal is to make his uniforms into a quilt, I even blogged about it once upon a time. That’s as far as I got… cutting up his old uniforms. I asked grandma if she had any idea on how we could incorporate that into Abug’s quilt top. The color I wanted to pull from Quilt block 4 was blue so we decided to do stars and stripes and incorporate hubby’s old uniform.

I Painted a Purple Cat… or something like that

Do you get the reference? It’s from Girl Meets World. I love that show. I was a big fan of Boy Meets World back in the day.

So anyway on Girl Meets World, Riley has a friend Mya. Mya is a great artist and Riley draws purple cats. I can barely draw a stick figure so I figured I might as well just draw the purple cat and be done with it.

Ultimately I blame Jillian for this want I have to paint. She’s always blogging about how she and her friends attend paint nights and she always does a fantastic job too, I might add. I thought it sounded like a blast. Then a friend of mine hit me up about a big group of us attending a paint night one night to try. Well that was a year ago and we still hadn’t looked in to it. Finally another friend brought up something… maybe posted on her facebook page something about one of those paint night places around here and I hit her up about it.

Happy Birthday

Today is my 33rd birthday. 33, wow. I can remember when I thought someone in their 30’s was old. I guess now I’m old? Remind me of this statement when I’m 40, please. Once upon a time I did a 101 in 1001 list… 101 items to complete in 1001 days. I’m not really willing to try that again right now. I told my dad yesterday morning that I heard your 30’s were supposed to be better than your 20’s. He told me, “You are what you make it. It is all state of mind.”

I believe goals help you achieve things. So I decided to set 33 goals for my 33rd year. Help keep me on track, please!
Still to do     In Progress     Accomplished + the date

  1. Pay off my car.
  2. Break Abug’s mare, Little Pi, to ride
  3. Use my gift certificate to train with a local horse trainer.
  4. Lose 33 pounds. (roughly at 10-15 in this goal….)
  5. Ride Blonde Barbie more.
  6. Sell my house.
  7. Look into either building or buying another house. (more…)

Happy Birthday

Today is my 33rd birthday. I’m struggling with that number. While I’m happy that I am on this side of the ground, I’ve always heard that your 30’s are better than your 20’s. I mentioned that to my dad yesterday morning and he said it’s all in perspective. Perspective… Okay. Well if it is about perspective, I’m going to make 33 goals for this year. I did a 101 in 1001 project once upon a time. 1001 days is a little longer than a year (as in 2.75 years) and I wanted something a little more specific to my 33rd year

The Wrap Up – 101 in 1001

So a while back… you know, as in back in 2010, after reading that a lot of people jumped on the bandwagon to do the 101 in 1001 list, I decided to play along.  I’m pretty sure if I remember right, after seeing Jill sign up, I decided I needed to as well.  She was one of my newest followers at the time, and really there were lots of other people but I’m pretty sure she was the one who pushed me over the edge.

I printed my list off and carried it with me for over 2 years.  That paper saw better days, that’s for sure.  Parts of it I had to reprint a couple times for different reasons… but the paper stayed in my purse and was carried around with me for 2 years.

I would pull it out when I went to places to see if I could cross anything off.  Sadly there were things on here that caused me problems and there were things I was unable to finish for whatever reason, but it was a fun list to attempt and I was able to cross a lot of things off.

The list I finished with wasn’t the original, I wound up having to modify it a bit for one reason or another, but here is the list and what I was able to accomplish or the things toward the end I knew wouldn’t happen.

We’re finally closing that chapter of this list.  I haven’t worked on it in a while, I just finally found a time to recap it 🙂 (more…)

A Picking We Will Go

A picking we will go, a picking we will go, hi ho the Cherry O, a picking we will go.

This just so happens to be the song I was singing in my head the whole time we were…. get this, picking berries.  What’s really funny is my 101 list included going berry picking.  I chose to count my cherry tree however I missed being able to cross it off with this trip by just a few days.  Speaking of that I need to do a recount of what all I accomplished but that’s not what this post is about.  This post is about A Picking We Will Go.

A couple weekends ago my parents were going to a Blueberry Farm/Blackberry Farm to pick berries.  When I found out they were going, I jumped at the chance to go with them.

We really wanted to pick Blackberries because who doesn’t like blackberries?!  But as you can see they were quite ready to go.  That didn’t stop us.  We still went on the blackberry hunt.

The owner of the farm said that the blackberries we could find were the first picking of the year so they’d need just a little more sugar than normal.

I thought I did really well.  I wound up with a bucket of blackberries and so did my mom.  Mom split hers between grandma.  The blackberries really needed about another week so mom and dad went last weekend and wound up with 15 lbs of blackberries.  I’ve already asked for some because I’m going to try my hand at making Blackberry Jam.  I’ll let you know how that goes.

I thought it was cool I caught the dragon fly on the berries.

Now the blueberries were actually ready to go.  Mom and I decided that we’d tag team a bucket but the heat just about got to us so we wound up with half a bucket.  We split the blueberries between us.

Oh… and Grandma really wanted peaches.  We got her a box of peaches while we were at it!

Not to shabby for about an hours worth of work, huh?!?!

Camping Adventures

Here we are, approaching the end of my time for my 101 in 1001 list.  Wednesday this week in fact is the last day.  Holy cow, it has been that long?  Anyway, one of the things on my list was to go camping.  The second was to spend the weekend at the lake.  So, this last weekend I actually knocked both of those off my list.

Here is our home for the weekend.

About a week ago AL & JT asked Earl, Pokey, the kids, hubby and me to meet up with them at Beaver Lake.  Earl and the kids were in for sure.  Pokey wasn’t sure at the time if he’d have to work or not, and having a tough week prior, he wasn’t able to attend.  Hubby and I weren’t really sure we could go until Thursday night/Friday morning (details are a little sketchy).

So we all loaded up and headed to Beaver Lake late Friday afternoon.

Once we got there and got our camper leveled, JT helped the 4 of us study for Scuba classes that began last night.

While we were studying, the kids were playing.  Don’t worry, the truck is in park, I swear!  And they were on our stomping ground.  The truck couldn’t have moved anyway because JT’s car and our truck were in the way.  Just want you to know the kids were ok playing here :).

Divergirl got down there about the same time we did.  After she got her area set up, she came down to eat dinner with us.

We had the option of BBQ Chicken or BBQ Pork on Hawaiian Rolls with the Red skinned potato salad, Yellow Mustard Potato Salad, Beans, Jello Parfait and Watermelon.

Divergirl brought this watermelon and Zebragirl and I couldn’t stay out of it the whole time she was cutting it up.  Yes, it was THAT good.  In fact, I want more of this particular one STAT!

After dinner we were asked to level out D the man & C’s camper.  Hubby and JT went up there and the rest of us ventured that way shortly after.

The blocks we needed were locked in the trailer, so AL, TB, Zebragirl and I went down to where Grady’s truck was to break in and try to find D the Man’s trailer keys.  When we had no luck we went back and hubby & JT went to hunt for them again, this time with luck.

Once the trailer was leveled, then it was time to help AL & JT set up their tent in front of D the Man & C’s trailer.

Once their tent was up I caught a glimpse of the moon rising up over the water and away I went to snap some photos.  This just so happened to be the longest day of the year since it was the first day of Summer.  The moon was gorgeous!

It was such a beautiful night for a walk.  Once we (hubby came down with me) got back, the kids were setting up one of the beds in the camper and relaxing together while the adults were helping AL finalize cheer uniforms for Zebragirl’s Cheer squad.  I would say we got to bed that night around 11:30 or midnight.

And we’re off on my first camping experience.
