Guess what time of year it is… Chiefs Season! Go Chiefs! Okay, so it’s not exactly true football season, it’s Pre-season, but still It’s Chiefs Season!! Saturday was a Pre-season game at home, so that meant we all piled on the Chiefs bus and headed to Kansas City.
Last Sunday we had the opportunity to attend a Springfield Cardinals Game. It was fun too! Last Fall Memaw went to a KC Chiefs game with us and the night before when we asked if she wanted to go she said, yes, I’ve never seen a home run. Hubby was like, well after tomorrow you’ll still have never seen a home run. Poor Memaw hasn’t lived that down. When we went to the baseball game, we asked if she wanted to go see a Touch Down with us. Yup, she still hasn’t lived it down….
Hello, you can’t go to a ball game without ballpark food! So our seats were up in the Red Bird Roost… So we got tickets and all the food we wanted to eat from hotdogs, brats, nachos, burritos, fruit, popcorn, and Coca Cola Products.
I think I’m ready to go on a trip again… Tuesday night I was working on a project that included looking through old photos. Once upon a time I scanned my Costa Rica Scrapbook and I was looking through it… I decided to share it. 1) Don’t judge my pictures…. 2) Don’t judge my handwriting! 3) This was a time in my life when people actually called me fat to my face…. I’d hate to see what they say about me now!
I’ll add a few stories along the way….
So this really wasn’t made for 12 American’s… lol. We were cram backed in this van like sardines. There were times we added even more people. And we had 2 of us on this trip that were prone to getting car sick. The Van was a standard and I spent a lot of time sitting on the console in the front so I didn’t get sick. The other way to keep from getting sick was I kept taking motion sickness pills and they’d knock me out. So I got made fun of for sleeping a lot of this trip away if we were in vehicles.
One of the exciting summer sporting event activities around happens to be a Springfield Cardinals Game located at Hammons Field in Springfield, MO (955 E. Trafficway Springfield, MO).
So who exactly are the Springfield Cardinals? Well, they are a Double-A Texas League affiliate of the 11-time World Champion St. Louis Cardinals. They are owned and operated by the St. Louis Cardinals Major League Baseball Team located in St. Louis, Missouri. In 2012 they won their first Texas League Title.
A couple weekends ago was the GLOC Shootout down on Grand Lake in Oklahoma. We decided to go down there and check things out. On Friday night they had the boats set out where everyone could see them, then on Saturday and Sunday they raced them. Boats were topping out around 200 mph.
Our drive home from Louisiana was great. Beautiful. Sunny. But it was funny to read Facebook and friends from back home where it was apparently pouring down rain.
As we left Louisiana, I was exhausted. I blame the food. So somewhere just around the Louisiana/Arkansas state line I fell asleep. Not such a good thing. Abug got an ink pen and decided to draw all over her new shoes. Whoops. Don’t worry, I woke up to slamming on the brakes when deer jumped out in front of the car. 4, there were 4 deer. 2 went back and 2 continued to cross and no one hit them luckily!
Abug woke up a little while after that and she was crying and crying so we decided somewhere in Arkansas about 2 hours from Van Buren, AR to stop and get her an ice cream cone and let her stretch her legs. This was her first ice cream cone like this too! Oooooo she’s spoiled now! haha.
Earlier in the week while we were at the Children’s Museum, we asked where a good place would be to get shrimp and/or crayfish. Apparently Crayfish were out of season by a couple weeks, but the gal told us to go to Captain Avery’s Seafood Market (2607 Ferrand St. Monroe, LA). So we went that day to check things out and said we’d be back on Thursday (our last day) to pick up stuff. Now I’m not huge on seafood but they had a great selection. So glad we went there to get the seafood for hubby and Jared.

I mentioned in the post about Waterfront Grill that I had my heart set on food at a particular restaurant… Well Warehouse No. 1 Restaurant happened to be the place I wanted to eat that day for lunch. Why was my heart set on this place? Well of course I read they had Cheddar Jalapeño Cheese Grits. Yup, I had my heart set on eating those grits. Grits is something that I associate with the South and I’m surprised this was the only restaurant that offered them for where we ate.
When we arrived they asked if we wanted to eat indoors or outdoors. We said outdoors because at home we don’t get that option. Maybe looking in hindsight we should have eaten inside because it was hot, but hey… why not be a yes person :).
After we left the Zoo, we decided to sit in the car for a few minutes, cool down, and find a good place to eat lunch. We pulled out our handy travelers guides and mom read one while I read the other. Mom stumbled across a place and read about it and it made my mouth water so I started pulling up their menu on my phone when she got off on another restaurant and decided we were going there because it made Southern Living Magazine so off we went to Waterfront Grill (On the Bayou, 5201 DeSiard St., Monroe, LA).
