Christmas Parties

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!! We are all getting together to celebrate this wonderful season called Christmas. Have I ever told you that my favorite time of the year is between Thanksgiving and Christmas? Sadly this year I feel like a bit of a scrooge. This has been a trying year but I’m sure trying to get past it because this is my favorite time of the year!

So anyway Saturday night we got dressed up and headed to the MO Governors Mounted Guard Christmas party. Hubby recently got involved with it. That makes me a Guard Gal :).

Anyway, everyone brought a gag gift to the party, and then all the guard members donated money to the CP Center in Webb City. I’d like to brag that they were able to raise over $200 for the CP center’s Christmas presents. They decided the money would be better than donating gifts, that way the center could buy the gifts that were really needed.

Then the fun ensued with the gifts. Oh yeah, we had food too… yum! Brisket, corn casserole, potatoes, ham, rolls, and desserts galore.

I have to admit this did brighten my spirits this holiday season! Now, where has my spirit gone anyway… has anyone seen it?

Santa's Helpers

I want to say Santa’s Little Helpers but truthfully you have to have a big heart to be this generous at Christmas time so that definitely makes everyone Santa’s Big Helpers! There are a bunch of people still out of work even though the television says that unemployment rates are down. That means there are a lot of little kids who wouldn’t have a Christmas if it weren’t for the help of volunteers who spend a lot of time gathering money and presents, shopping with that money, wrapping all the presents and delivering those presents to all the good little boys and girls.

Yes, the true reason for the season is Jesus but presents for Jesus’ birth make Christmas what it is. So the last couple weeks a bunch of people from the local fire departments, EMT and Search and Rescue have spent time collecting and wrapping presents so all the little boys and girls will have a very Merry Christmas.

None of us need the acknowledgement but the gratitude of the happy little kids makes it all worth while! I started out wrapping presents, then tying ribbons on, but ended up with a camera in my hand and was told to take pictures. I guess that’s what I do best. 🙂

btw, I’m a broken record but have you linked up for the Review Extravaganza?!?!

Decorating the tree 2014

A tradition that I’ve tried to keep up with every year that hubby and I have been together is making sure Tbug is included in decorating the tree. Usually I know the demands of every weekend that we have her November and December (her cheer schedule can do a person in sometimes) But my goal is to always have her involved as long as time permits. One year we even decorated the tree the first weekend of November because of her schedule versus ours.

This year we got her Thanksgiving weekend so I said no matter what the tree IS. GOING. UP. THIS. WEEKEND. Otherwise we wouldn’t have her until the weekend before Christmas and that’s unacceptable to put a tree up that late.

So that was what we did first thing Saturday morning. Decorated the tree. Now I wanted baby girl more involved but we started during naptime… so…. this is what she did most of the time. Oh well you win some you lose some.

Tbug was so excited when she heard she had to help find Christmas lights that work. ha! So… the story behind that is earlier this year she spent a couple hours at my parents house going through my dad’s Christmas lights for him. So it’s a big joke with us now. Yes, we have a prelit tree but one set of lights decided not to work so we just strung lights on it to save time.

Every year we add ornaments to our tree. This year we added very few though…
Our trip to Memphis

Baby girl’s first Christmas ornament.

Tbug got to put the first ornament on the tree this year.

Then hubby joined in on the fun!

Just before baby girl went to sleep I wanted her to “hang” her first ornament so hubby woke her up (she was almost asleep. I know bad mommy award here) and she helped him hang up her ornament.

Now typically I unwrap ornaments and pass them out to be put on the tree… but I save back a few ornaments specifically for me to put on the tree. My “goat” ornament is one of those….

And here is the 2014 tree. I think we might need to get a bigger tree. There’s one ornament we got that we didn’t get a picture of… it’s our family ornament. It’s a Chief’s chalkboard that says nice list: Chiefs Fans, everyone else naughty list :). ha!

p.s. Have you linked up with the Review Extravaganza? This week we’re looking at January-March!! Remember there are prizes to be had!!!!

The Review Extravaganza – January thru March #2014RE

The start of every year brings new hope and new light. You have a brand new slate to write your story. I’d love to say 2014 was an easy year, but it hasn’t been, instead though it helped shape and mold me to who I am at the end of the year. Now is the time to reminisce about the first 3 months of the year. The joys, the trials and everything in between.

January 2014

At the start of the year, hubby and I had been together 4 1/2 years.

Tbug celebrated her 11th year on this earth!

Week 13, Week 14, Week 15, Week 16, Week 17

The Chiefs actually made the Playoffs. It didn’t work in their favor but it was still great they did!

Hubby and I went on an emotional roller coaster ride this year. Not only were we having this baby but we got some really upsetting news and to top it off insurance became a pain in the tookus. It turned out to work out for the best. Just thinking about this has me in tears. I cried a lot this year, wow!

February 2014

We had our Baby Reveal Party

Week 18, Week 19, Week 20, Week 21

Hubby and I celebrated our 4 year engagiversary. There is a reason why we work.. this husband and I.

Valentine’s Day!!

I shared what we’d talk about if we were to sit down and have coffee.

March 2014

It snowed. That’s all 🙂

Week 22, Week 23, Week 24, Week 25

Rio disappeared and then… Tbug and I tried to claim some male dog as Rio… read the story is all I can say!

Hubby and I spent Spring Break in Kansas City (Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4)

Ah, the Birthday cake debacle.

So I sit here today writing this post, listening to this beautiful baby girl snoring away beside me, watching another Christmas movie and crying my eyes out remembering the good, the bad and the ugly the first part of this year has brought. I hope that you’ll join in with us on this journey of reliving/recapping the year! If you have any questions, here’s the rules post, check it out and if you still have questions, please by all means let me know and I’ll try to answer!!

Crock Pot Green Chile Enchilada Soup – Hello YUM!!!

So check out this soup recipe I have for you today! Why am I sharing today? Well it could be because I’m avoiding homework. It could be because it’s cold outside. It could be because it’s noon and it’s time to eat… there’s lots of reasons… but whatever the case may be, the fact of the matter is I’m sharing.

I saw the recipe floating around on facebook and it sounded really good so we definitely had to try it. So without further ado,

10 Things to Smile about November

So it isn’t the last Tuesday of the month (November) and it’s kind of late in the afternoon. And because it’s raining outside and I have a baby who is fighting sleep and screaming… I think I’ll participate in EmmyMom‘s 10 things to smile about meme!

Emmy Mom

So in no particular order:

1. We participated in the Newton County Christmas for Kids Chili Cookoff and Tbug actually won! An 11 year old walked away with first prize… score!

2. We celebrated hubby’s birthday!

3. We got to attend our first Chiefs game as a family. Tbug also experienced her first Chief’s game.

4. I created my instructional video for school.
[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFIKRYtdGwA]

5. Tbug got to go hunting with her daddy

6. Tbug got to attend another Chiefs game with us. She was a real trooper with it being 23˚. The baby girl stayed home for this game.

7. Baby girl is 5 months old this month. Btw, can we make time slow down please?!?!

8. Baby girl celebrated her first Thanksgiving

9. Tbug got to celebrate Thanksgiving with us too.

10. We got to tailgate with the Red Coaters and I learned I need to learn how to heckle better.

p.s. Get ready for Monday because the The Review Extravaganza is here! – #2014RE is happening!

Tailgating with the Red Coaters

So we have two friends, (technically 3, we claim one as our group now!! Nancy went through classes with Grady) who are Red Coaters for the Kansas City Chiefs. At Sunday’s game the Red Coaters had a tailgating party that was catered in for Red Coaters and their families. Since we are claimed as family too, we got to go!

Sunday we met up with everyone and headed to Kansas City. When we left home the temp was 68˚ and when we got to KC the temp was 29˚. I kept questioning our sanity, lol.

Tailgating was to start around 4pm but we were there a bit early. We went ahead and walked over to the tent and checked in and chatted for a while with all the other Red Coaters and their families. Eventually it was time to eat. You don’t have to tell us twice :).  I quickly snapped pictures of food as I was going through the line so I didn’t hold people up. A few looked at me like I was crazy but all my people know that’s just me… lol.

Now we played Denver. As I was sitting at the table I noticed there was a lady who was wearing an orange Pea Coat and a blue sweatshirt. I asked hubby if they were Denver fans. He suggested that it might just be ironic, especially since we were in the Red Coater tent…

Later before we ate, one of the Red Coaters introduced our honorary guests who were in fact Denver fans. They were her Brother and Sister in law. He blessed the meal and then once we got started eating they were sitting next to us at the table so we started talking to them. Of course I had to heckle him a little but apologized every time I did. He laughed and told hubby he needed to teach me to heckle better… lol.

The food was delicious I might add… we’re now back on the food if you couldn’t tell :). It was catered in through Hyvee, the grocery store. They sponsor things up here during the game. I really would like to know how other stadiums are since I’ve only been to Chiefs Kingdom!

So the cookies above… This is truly how big they are. And oh were they good!

Christmas Santa is back. (does that sound a little redundant? Oh well)

Eric Berry, one of the Chiefs players has been potentially diagnosed with Lymphoma cancer. One of the things we decided to do was all Red Coaters and family/guests at the tailgate were encouraged to sign a flag for him to let him know that we were all thinking of him.

Then we went and sat in the truck for about an hour to try and defrost. Once that sun went down it was friggid. Finally we all geared up and headed into the stadium. Hubby and I had on our jeans, and jersey’s but we also had on long underwear, heavy socks, heavy coats, our bib overalls and sleeping bags. Sleeping bags are soooo much better than blankets as you don’t have to constant readjust blankets. Really the only thing cold on me was my face.

Once we got to our seats I thought it would be fun to take a picture… and we had photobombers!

I just love these two!

The sane ones of our group stayed home in the comfort of the house and watched the game on the tv… well until halftime.

Sadly the game didn’t go in our favor… at all! We lost to the Denver Broncos 29-16. Yuck! Our group actually left at the start of 4th quarter because the game was that bad (in our favor) and it was soooooo cold. They did get a touchdown in the 4th quarter after we left but it wasn’t enough to even catch up.

And that my friends is how you freeze your tail off.

Thanksgiving part 2

So after the KitchenAid Mixer debacle, it was time for bed. You know, that and after getting all of the rolls actually baked.

The next morning hubby got up before baby girl and I did. When I woke up this is how she was laying. Tooooooo dang cute if I do say so myself. We went ahead and let her sleep and went in the kitchen and started prep work.

Once we heard her stir we brought her in with us.

I went wheeling through the living room and this is how I found the cat. What is she watching?

The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade of course.

Then it was time to head in to my father-in-law’s house. Once we got back we made plans with my MIL to come over early to watch baby girl while we finished up Thanksgiving dinner for our house. Good thing too because someone didn’t like sitting on the table.

Now it wouldn’t be a holiday at our house if it weren’t for plumbing problems. One Thanksgiving we found a nail driven through a pipe and it burst. Another year at Christmas a pipe broke and we flooded the livingroom/office. And this year… I had the washer going and as the washer was getting rid of the water during the rinse cycle… I heard what sounded like running water on the floor. Sure enough. We had a clogged pipe. But pulling out the dryer I found the jar I broke like 3 years ago accidentally and my Football trays.

This was actually Tbug’s Thanksgiving at her mom’s house this year, but because we were doing dinner and they were finished, she got to come over to the house a bit early. My parents picked her up on their way to our house.

Baby girls bow I made for her Thanksgiving outfit.

And who might she be looking at?

None other than Grandpa. (My FIL. We really need a way to tell Grandpa FIL from Grandpa dad apart for her :)… My mom is Grandma and my MIL is Memaw but both grandpa’s are grandpa….)

The table set for all of us. I brought the bar stool over and put baby girls bumbo on it and she sat at the table with us. She loved it.

Smoked Turkey

Our corn casserole. This casserole is GREAT but it’s even better in this bowl. There’s something about this bowl. My grandma always made it in this bowl and when she passed away I got the Corn Casserole bowl. Hubby and I have made this in other pans but it definitely tastes better in this bowl. Must be because it’s Grandma’s bowl. That’s my story and I’m sticking too it. (side note, I used to refer to my grandparents as Grandma and Grandpa with the Horses (mom’s) and Grandma and Grandpa with the cows (dads) even though they both had each, one was known for one and one was known more for the other.)

Andouille Pudding

Potato Casserole

Garlic Cheesy Mashed Potatoes

The Gravy. This wasn’t my best gravy I can tell you that for sure 🙁

Memaw’s Cheesecake – I should tell you Baby Girl absolutely loved this. No she didn’t eat a lot but she had a bite or two or three.

And then someone passed out at the end of the party. She had a big day with very few naps, what can you expect?

Happy Thanksgiving! I’d say her first Thanksgiving was successful!
