Thanksgiving

Life is hard.  We all know this.  And I have a tendency to say that life is like a roller-coaster, you have your ups, your downs, your swoops all arounds.  You never know quite what life is going to throw at you next.  There are a bunch of times, like now I wish I could catch a bit of a break.  I could use a bit of a break.  Yesterday I woke up and swear my head felt congested and I felt like I wasn’t running on all cylinders all day.  And things just went down hill from there.  In fact I think I wound up crying like 4 different times.  I’m not a huge crier, but when things pile up and pile up, eventually I break down.  I guess I hit that point yesterday, more than once.

Then I should have come home and studied for my A&P test I have today and instead, I moved photos off my computer.  I played with touching up photos.  I watched Christmas movies.  I did things that got me far away from my problems, although that probably created new problems for this evening, I have a test to take and I’m not 100% ready for it.  However I did read the chapter twice.  Yehaw!

I’m so in the mood for Christmas, especially with the cloudy weather, the cooler temps, the rain drizzle and of course it getting dark out before or at least by the time I get off work.  Hubs has been wanting to put our Christmas tree up for about a month now.  He and Tbug were on me this last weekend about, yeah let’s put it up.  I had to be the strong one and say, um… not quite yet.  But, I’m not sure how much longer I’ll last.  Truthfully I’m ready for Christmas.  Happy things and joyous times come with Christmas.

And although Thanksgiving and Christmas will be very different and very hard this year what with some stupid family things that have happened this summer/fall, I’m still ready for a happy joyous time of year.  I’m ready for some stress to be lifted off my shoulders.  I’m ready for some peace and joy and the reason for the seasons!

I am very Thankful and Blessed for my life and my family and I know tough times will come and go but yesterday was awful.  However, even on the worst of days I get to come home to my husband who loves me dearly.  I get to call and talk to my parents both of whom are there for me.  I get to speak with my grandma.  Even though life is hard, Life is good.

So here, I’ll share with you a photo that I was playing around with touch ups on.  It’s from last year at Thanksgiving time.  Our first Thanksgiving as a married couple.

PS, we weren’t in Chicago for this picture, we were in Oklahoma… I’m just sayin 🙂

I wish things would be different this year, but we’ll make the best of things and we’ll move on.

And hey, maybe tomorrow I’ll share a recipe so you don’t have to read about the sadness in my life… LOL 🙂 Have I ever told you I like food?

Extra Hour

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Big sigh of relief, right?  We got our hour of sleep back.  But I’m not so sure I’m feeling it yet.  Yesterday morning I was up at 7am and couldn’t get back to sleep so proceeded to get up, watch a recorded episode of Sweet Home Alabama (the reality tv show on CMT) and then started working on cleaning the house, studying A&P, and whatever else I wound up doing, I can’t remember.  Then I was in bed and ready to sleep by 8pm.  Yup, I think I’m a little off.  Then awake at 5:30am this morning.

Sigh!  But not the happy kind!

I go enroll in classes for next semester today.  I’m a little nervous!  We’ll see how it goes!

Hope y’all have a happy Monday, if there is such a thing… LOL 🙂

Persimmons & our Christmas Card

The other day at work I was sitting on a webinar (on-line conference).  By Thursday afternoon I had sat through the same conference 6 times and that 6th time, I’m not going to lie, I think I started day dreaming.  Truthfully what was running through my head were phrases that my dad says all the time.  But one inparticular he says is about Persimmons.  He says it so much that one of the last times I was in Branson at Silver Dollar City I found a book about Persimmons and bought it for him.  But to this day, I can’t tell you what that silly phrase is, but here are some of the more classic “dad” phrases.

  • Finer than a Frogs Hair split 4 ways.
  • The Seven P’s to Perfection:
  • Proper Prior Planning Prevents Pretty Poor Performance
  • I’m standing on my head in the corner stacking bebe’s with my nose

And while we’re at it, here’s one my grandpa said:

  • How do you catch a wild rabbit?  unique up on him
How do you catch a tame rabbit?  The tame way.

Ok anyway 🙂 moving on……so I’ve been seeing on a lot of blogs people are already talking about Christmas cards.  Really?  I’d think to myself, but truthfully, it’s best to send them out basically right after Thanksgiving so they are there early… so yeah I guess maybe I should work on ours too.  We already had our photo chose then I went around to different places looking for just the right card.  I wound up on Shutterfly.com based off other recommendations.  I’m so glad I did… Look at the card we’re sending out!

and if you are on my card list, act surprised when you receive it, I’m just sayin!

I love this card.  I worked it up, sent a screen shot to my husband (took a picture with my camera of the computer screen b/c he couldn’t get my email for some reason – HA) and he loved it.  Sent an actual screen shot to my mom and a couple friends making sure they thought it was cute and then bought it :).

I can’t wait to get them in my hand and start addressing them and mailing them out!

Real Life

Sometimes Real Life is funny.  Things that happen, mannerisms of people, unforeseen circumstances, etc.  I thought I would share with you my last night.

In my A&P class we’ve been having Greek & Latin Root Word tests.  We usually get about 50-55 Greek & Latin prefix and suffix words that we have to learn since a lot of medical terminology is based off of that.  Last night we had our third test.  I must admit, I didn’t start studying for these words until Tuesday night after I got home from class where she announced that we’d have a test on Thursday.  I really thought I was going to freak out, but I didn’t.  I just settled in and proceeded to learn the words.

After Tuesday night I had about 40 of the 51 words down pat.  Not bad, especially since I swear my memory isn’t the best most times.  So hubby and I went over them again Wednesday night and at lunch yesterday.  When I got to class last night, like usual I had about an hour and 10 minutes to kill before class started so I pulled into a parking space, kicked my shoes off, took my jacket off, placed my feet in the passenger seat and started going over the words again.

I made it through them once when he called so I went through them with him on the phone.  Then I went into class.  Like usual on test nights, we take notes first, get about 5-10 minutes to look over test material and then she gives us the test.  We’re free to leave after that.

I kind of get nervous taking test anyway but mainly because I don’t want to be the last person out of the classroom.  Before I got off the phone earlier in the evening he told me, “I don’t care if you are the last person who leaves and you make her stay later, get them right.  Calm down.  You know them.”

So I start taking the test and they are coming to me left and right.  Whew this is going to be an easy test!  I get to the last 2 (not the last two on the test, just the two unanswered to this point) and I cannot for the life of me think of either one of them.  I finally get the one, however I realized after I left I forgot the silly -o at the end.  Can I buy a vowel please :).

The one last word was ‘Patho’.  I sat there and sat there and sat there.  I knew it would eventually come to me.  It had to… right?  Nothing

So I underlined the word.  I underlined it so much that if you went to erase it, you’d always have a trace of that line.  Dang… what is that silly word it means in English.  So then I wrote = the study of ______________ and sat there longer.  Then I started underlining those words.  I knew it had to come to me… but still, nothing.  So above study of I wrote knowledge of.  Yup, you guessed it, still nothing.  oh come on……

So I started staring at my hands.  front, back, together, apart then I moved to my arms.  I raised them over my head, stretched them out in front of me, pulled them back.  Nothing.  Come on… seriously, it is something that has to do with the study or knowledge of the human body.

So then I slid myself away from the desk and stared at my feet.  Nothing

I stretched my feet out and went up my leg, come on.  Then I got to my stomach… no word for that this time… my kidney, no that’s nephr… um… lung, no that’s pulmo.  Come on Nicole… what in the heck is Patho and it finally came to me… Patho is disease!  Hell yeah.  I wrote the word down, jumped up and almost slammed my test on the teachers desk.  Woops but I was a little excitable I think at that point.

I made the comment that I really thought that last one would kill me.  She was like, yeah I saw you examining yourself.  I was like, well I figured eventually it would come to me because I knew it had to do something with the body, I just couldn’t quite remember what.  She looked at it and said, “well, you got that one right.”

Booya! 🙂

See, sometimes people are funny, I’m just prime example of that 🙂

Happy Friday.  This weekend I get to study for my Chapter 5 A&P test plus take a Chapter 6 Take home test for Nutrition.  How cool am I?

Rainy with a Chance of Snow

Um, really?  Snow in the forecast?  Sure, why not.  With all the crazy weather we’ve experienced this year between our blizzard in February, the EF-5 Tornado that blew threw in May, the drought and triple digit temperatures this summer, let’s just throw snow in November into that mix.  Anyway that’s what weather.com app said on Tuesday evening.

Now I know parts of the country are snowed into their houses.  One of my co-workers lives in New Hampshire and had 2 feet of snow dumped on them to the point they lost power and just got it back yesterday.  Wow, really?  Let’s see, New England has had snow, Tornadoes, Hurricanes and more snow.  What’s up with this weather?

The Old Wives tale my grandma told me was depending on what day of the month (number day) the first snow happens on, that’s how many snows you will have that year, example: the 9th, 9 days of snow, 17th, 17 days of snow, etc.  Now I’m not sure if that works just for Southwest Missouri, or this part of the country or what, she never explained that.

I can just tell you, I’m not ready for snow.

Taken in February

I am however ready for Thanksgiving & Christmas… but that’s another thought for another post 🙂

Happy Thursday 🙂

Tiramisu Brownies

So today I’m kind of at a loss for what to post about.  I’m not so much having writer’s block as more, my heart is heavy.  Sometimes with marriage, you get the good with the bad, the funny with the sad or serious.  Today I’m feeling some of the serious.  No, nothing happened other than something was said.  It wasn’t bad or anything, just a matter of fact statement but it just got me to thinking.  And the sad/odd thing, I’m the one who said it.  I’m sure my day will get better, I mean come on, I get to study for an A&P Root word test that I haven’t studied for.  The test is tomorrow night.  Anyone know Greek & Latin Prefix and Suffix words, wanna go take my test for me?  I’ll give you a dolla 🙂

Ok, so I guess I’ll share with you this recipe.  The other day on twitter @BekahEdwards sent out a post asking for an easy recipe for a pot luck and I sent her this recipe.  It’s so super simple that I’ll share with the rest of the class too :).  Just trust me, make it for someone else, otherwise, you’ll eat the entire pan!  I’m just sayin! 🙂

Make the brownies cake-like (add an extra egg) and let them cool.  (I used the cheapest boxed brownie mix I could find and they were still super good!)

There’s a Restaurant….

So like any couple, we sometimes have…. odd, let’s say… weird, maybe…. strange, could be…. you can insert a lot of words here…. conversations.  This one the other night though kind of takes the cake and I so just needed to share it with you.  Sit back and enjoy.  Please feel free to laugh!

Me:  So there’s a restaurant we need to go to sometime.
Hubs:  Where?
M: I dunno
H: What’s it called?
M: I dunno but it’s Italian
H: Um… ok… What town is it in?
M: I dunno
H: Is it in a town?
M: I dunno, it could be on the road, but it is in Kansas
H: Ok we’re getting closer.  Where at in Kansas?
M: I dunno
H: Have you been there? (more…)
