1. What is the name of your blog and how did you come up with it?? Well my blog is called Life’s a Beach.  Truthfully I wanted a “cool” name, my husband always answered the phone “Life’s a Beach, Wish I was on one.”  and it kind of stuck.  I also look at it as the beach is fun, life should be fun so yeah, it works for me :).

2. What do you love the most about blogging?? I have made so many fabulous friends through blogging.  I’m not sure there are many times when I don’t start a sentence to my husband about this blogger did/said this. ha!

3. What are your 2 favorite posts you’ve written?

Oh goodness…..  I would say these two right now.  One is 50 reasons why I love my husband and the other shows what a fabulous {step}daughter I truly have been blessed with.

4. What is something you’d want to tell someone just starting out in blog world? Don’t do this just to build a following or make money.  One out of like a million it seems like truly succeed at being millionaires on their blog.  Just keep going, be true to yourself, don’t give up and make some friends along the way.  Plus write about what you want to write about, not what you think others want to hear from you.  Find your writing voice.  Remember, you’re unique, don’t be like someone else because they’ve already been taken :).

5. Biggest blogging learning experience you’ve had? Watermark your photos, don’t find them on some bizarre website and wonder how they got there and who is trying to portray you!

6. Give us 3 blogs we NEED to be following that you love.

Oh goodness, I hate playing favorites.  So I’ll give you the top 3 who send blog readers my way 🙂
and because The Wife has been busy and hasn’t blogged much lately, here’s a 4th

2nd Year of Wedded Bliss

Boy, this has just been a crazy week.  I’m so glad it’s Friday!  I need a vacation from my last weekend/this week!

Update on Mini Me, he dropped about 200lbs we’re guessing while he was sick and at the vet, but he’s home and so far acting like his normal, usually, self.  That’s a plus!

And I pretty well had posts to share all the way up until today, today included, however because of Wednesday & Thursday’s post our anniversary post had to wait a few days.

Hubby leaves for work earlier than I do, but most days I get up with him, Tuesday was no different, however I beat both of our alarms.  I think I may have been a tad excited!

I was with my mom the day I bought his present, and it was rather large, so I planned on getting it from her at work on Tuesday and then giving it to him in the evening, however Monday when I made mention of that he kind of led on that I would be getting my present Tuesday morning so I had to figure out how to get his present from my parents house to ours.  What better way, than in mom’s HUGE suitcase.  Besides his present was awkward enough to try and wrap that I just told him, that’s the wrapping :).

So once he opened up mom’s suitcase, there was his present, his very own suitcase!  He’s been wanting one for a while because I guess he doesn’t like dragging my giraffe looking suitcase around.  What’s really funny is if we do go somewhere, we go together so he could very easily pass it off as my luggage, but whatevs, now he has a black “manly” suitcase :).  Oh and seeing as though traditional 2nd year gifts are Cotton Balls or China, I stuck Q-tips and cotton balls in the suitcase for him :).

Ignore the way I look, it was 6:30 in the morning and I had just woken up.  But look at the gorgeous wrapping job on my present!

A bit of a story, while we were still dating I told him that someday I wanted a charm bracelet for my anniversaries with a charm every year to represent, him, me, us, or an event in our life, just something meaningful to us as a whole.  Last year “paper” I got this gorgeous charm that looks like a book.  This year being “cotton” or “China” I wondered what I would wind up with… so I got a Bale of Cotton Charm.  How precious is that!

My first charm finally has a buddy!!

He had to go on-line and go to cotton Plantations down in the Southeast who had gift stores.  It’s even filled with real field cotton.  My husband is GREAT!

Now, he’s out of vacation so taking the day off together wouldn’t work, so we both went to work.  Fabulous way to spend your 2nd Anniversary, huh?  Last year at that time we were in Hawaii on Catamaran’s and Parasailing!

When we got off work we both ran home and changed clothes and got in one vehicle and decided to go do a small anniversary photo shoot.  Wow, that was a lot of ands in that sentence.  Anyway, we both put on our outfits we left our reception in and I put on my wedding shoes.  Yup, 2 years later I still fit into the dress, that’s good right?

Now being in Hawaii last year we weren’t able to do a photo shoot holding our wedding photo, unfortunately, so this year we did the shoot holding both photos.  Next year we plan on holding the 2nd year wedding photo and so on until we’re like 150 and senile.  Then we’ll hold the photos and wonder who those beautiful folks are :).

And I put this little collage together of our years together.  The first photo was taken the latter part of September when we kind of became official, then our wedding photo taken on 9/4/10, our vow renewal photo on 9/6/11 and our 2nd anniversary photo taken on 9/4/12.

I’m just trying to figure out how next year’s collage will work with 5 photos, any ideas?  Odd numbers seem a bit difficult!

oh and in this year’s photo, if you wonder why my hand is flat against my leg, I have the remote in my hand trying to find it! ha!  Ok I’ll quit now, happy Friday and hope y’all have a fantabulous weekend!

PMM to Break Your Heart but Make You Smile too

As I stated yesterday, life around our house wasn’t the greatest this weekend.  Last Thursday night when my parents got home, our mare, you know the one who is bred to the stud down in Texas I won last year, was sick.  They didn’t know what was wrong with her so dad loaded her up and took her to the vet.  Long story short, it didn’t help so he loaded up her up and hauled her to Oklahoma State University Equine Vet School.  They got there at around 2am on Friday morning, a team of vets/students got her out of the trailer and they  had to perform emergency surgery on her.  Unfortunately it didn’t work and we lost her Friday morning along with the baby.

This was our weekend to have Tbug and we had made plans for her to show on Saturday, so Friday night we had to tell her about Squirty because we didn’t want her walking into the barn Saturday morning, questioning and being upset.  She told her daddy and me that she just wasn’t real emotional and she didn’t cry, then all the way home we heard her sniffling.  That right there is heart breaking.

Saturday was a good day, a bit stressful but a very good day, something my whole family needed.  We got to be a family, together, having fun.

But…. {you knew this was coming, right?}

Sunday we turned the horses out and went to lunch.  When we got back, Tbug, daddy and grandpa were going to go out and ride horses.  I was a couple minutes behind them because I had to change clothes.  When I got out there, Mini Me wasn’t acting right.  Dad said it was the same way Squirty had been acting on Thursday night.

By this time we were all panicking.  Tbug looked at me and said she wished she could go to Memaw’s (hubby’s mom), and I handed her my phone and told her to call Memaw, if she could come get her, cool, otherwise she’d have to wait a bit so one of us could get away to get her there, but Memaw said she’d be right over to get her.

But Tbug walked up to grandpa, put her hand in her pocket and pulled out about $2 in quarters and dimes, looked at grandpa and said, “Here Grandpa, put this toward fixing Mini Me and if that isn’t enough, I’ll try to find you more.”

My dad told us that story as we were back on the road headed to OSU vet school and I just got the chills.  How sweet was that?  Truthfully I can’t take full credit or even partial credit for the way Tbug acts because I’ve only been in her life for 3 years, but I’ll take this kid any day of the week, she’s mine!

Btw, in case you wondered, Mini Me came home yesterday.  Since they’re still not sure the root cause, they treated broadly which could mean this could happen again, but we’ll have to wait and see.

Her First Show

This was a pretty rough weekend at my house as some of you may have seen on my Facebook page.  Oh, you didn’t know I had a blog Facebook page?  Well I just recently set it up.  If we were friends on my personal Facebook page I sent you an invite, however you’re all invited to “Like” my page and keep up to date on things!

In fact, those of you who follow on Facebook will have seen I was going to post about this on Thursday, but plans have changed (obviously since you’re seeing this post today and not tomorrow).

A few weekends ago when Tbug was at the house I mentioned to her that there was an AQHA show the next weekend we had her (this last weekend, Labor Day weekend, whatevs) and if she’d like, maybe we could get her there to show.  She kind of seemed interested but I wasn’t sure so after she went home to her mom’s house I called and talked to her mom and made mention of it to her mom.  Simply said if she was interested I needed to know and we’d get her there.

Well Tbug decided she was interested, so that meant, we were going.

Now, we show cutting horses, not pleasure horses.  I mean a horse is a horse, but at the same time you breed for different characteristics as with anything you do, you go for certain things to your hobby’s specifications.  A cutting horse is very flexible, compact, athletic; basically they have to be able to spin on a dime and go back the other direction, fast :).  A roping horse is generally athletic and taller because you’re going to dally off a rope to that horn to stop a cow.  A pleasure horse is bred for height, etc.  you get the point, right?  They’re the same but different.

We knew this going in, but Tbug isn’t ready to show cutting horses yet.  So I thought putting her in a pleasure class, in a bit more of a controlled atmosphere would be good for her.  Give her the chance to go out and show, but with cutting horses, you don’t always know what will happen, it’s hard to explain because I know what I’m talking about and I feel I’m talking in circles.  Just know, she went to show!  That’s good enough!

I am pleased to say, she did excellent!

In halter classes, she placed 2nd.

In the Walk-Trot class she placed 3rd.

And then the poor kid got thrown in another Walk Trot class with a pattern and placed 3rd.  She was told by her daddy and grandpa (my dad) to stay in the ring, watch the other kids, and do it.  I was, on the other hand, trying to figure out why she wasn’t coming out of the arena.  Then hubby said, I told her not to.  Oh, ok, that makes sense, right?

Kiddo’s in her class got to choose prizes from the Treasure Chest.  She got Side Walk Chalk and something else for the 2 classes of Walk-Trot she was in.

And then my mom, aka Grandma, yelled at me for this stunt.  She seems to think I had something to do with this….

Should I plead the 5th or fess up?
I guess with that answer, this is my doing… but not this particular day, in fact I was talking to her step-dad about pictures when she did this.  Then we both got yelled at because we were the 2 standing there with cameras in our hand not paying attention.  About a year ago I was razzing her about standing on the back of Aloha.  I don’t know why, I just was.  I got conned into doing this at her age on another horse, so I was giving her fits to see if she’d do it.  We may have a stunt double in the making.

Disclaimer: Yes, any horse can have a day where they want to throw a fit, it happens to the best of them, even the kid proof horses.  Aloha is fairly kid proof and there were people standing all around Tbug just in case, I just got them out of the picture.

It Still Must Be Love

Today is a day I get to be mushy/gushy!  Today is my 2nd Anniversary to the most wonderful husband I could have ever asked for!  2 Years ago today was a sad & happy day!  Sad because my dad was walking me down the aisle and I wouldn’t be going home to my parents house, but happy because I had the most wonderful man waiting for me at the end of that aisle.  I swore I wasn’t going to cry, because really there is no pretty cry and I didn’t want my wedding pictures to show tears so I laughed.  I laughed and giggled and laughed some more.  It was quite funny.  Since our anniversary falls on a week day this year, we’ll go out to eat for dinner and possibly celebrate this weekend, no plans have been made as of yet, that I know of anyway :).

****************************************

In 2010 a co-worker gave me a book called Becoming the Woman of His Dreams.  It had a few questions in it and I made hubby make me a deal he would answer these every year.  I think it’s awesome to look back at his answers.  He answered them as my Fiance and then last year on our 1 year Anniversary.  So here are the questions and his answers around our 2 year anniversary.

~How would you describe the woman of your dreams?

I know this is probably the same answer as last time but… YOU!! You are what I have always wanted and what I always will want! For those of you out in Bloggy land who don’t know this lovely lady she is beautiful, brilliant, funny, fair, sweet, and most importantly… she is all MINE!!!! =P

~What do you wish your wife understood about you and your longings?

I wish she understood just how much she actually means to me. I wish she understood that the only thing I long for is for her to be happy… cause when wifey ain’t happy ain’t nobody happy!

~What does your wife do well that other women could learn from?

Love me back… know when something is wrong and be comforting.

~What has been the greatest struggle in your marriage?

I would prefer not to say but if you are going to twist my arm I guess I will just say…. Certain People!

~How could your wife help alleviate that problem?

Hmmmmmm this is tricky. Just always remember that no matter what happens I will always always LOVE my wife more than anything in the whole wide world!

~What is one thing you wish women understood about what a man wants in the woman of his dreams?

Women generally don’t understand that what we really want is the same thing they want. Someone to be there for us be supportive even when we mess up, re-assure us when needed, and love us unconditionally!
