For a Spanking Good Time

Last night was a Spanking Good Time… LOL… Nope, it wasn’t dirty, get your mind out of the gutter… well you might keep it slightly there but let me explain!

I was invited to an invitation only event, just for women aged 18 years old +.

It is called the Diva Paddle Party (as their shirt states)

Taken with iPhone… Not the best quality

OMG was it fun and hilarious.  And as the back of their shirt states:

Taken with iPhone again…. But all the rest are taken with my Nikon

So here’s the gist of it….

10 different vendors got together

  1. Premier Design Jewelry (duh it’s jewelry)
  2. Mishe’ Bags (The purses with the magnetic covers)
  3. Scentsy (The newest and latest craze, the smell good stuff)
  4. Longaberger (The basket company)
  5. Pampered Chef (The cooking company)
  6. Tupperware (The storing company)
  7. Home & Garden Parties (The decorating company)
  8. Mary Kay (Make-up)
  9. Tastefully Simple (quick and easy fix meals with 2 ingredients or less)
  10. Passion Parties (Think sex toys… LOL)

They host these 1 night a month.  It is by invitation only, however if I get the invite, I can bring as many friends as I would like.

So you pay $3 to get in the door.  That gives you one bidding Paddle.  Then you can pay $3 and buy more but every paddle is $3.  Now every month they do proceed donations… this month the donation was for the Laffeyette House (They help women in the area with different needs, take them in, etc) so if you brought paper towels, toilet paper, etc (2) you got a free paddle. (Last month was a canned food drive, 2 canned goods got you an extra paddle).  Anyway so you put your name on a ticket (plus your address and which of the 10 ladies that invited you), that got thrown in a pot and then you got your paddle.

My fave color & that number were not a good combo for me last night… LOL

So then you bring a roll of quarters, or if you are me, a plastic baggy full… LOL (just don’t have my luck and let the baggy split out and quarters go flying!)

There were 5 tables set up at the front of the room, each vendor got 1/2 of the table to set up their displays.

Here we have Tupperware, Home & Garden, Mary Kay and the far right there is Tastefully Simple.

Then here’s Pampered Chef along with Tupperware and the Home & Garden

Premier Jewelry, Mishe’ bags, Scentsy & Longaberger
Here were the line of ladies coming in the room, paying.

At this point I put away my camera… I know I’m a bad blogger… LOL

So anyway There are 40 items put up for bid, no more, no less.  Each vendor puts in 4 items.  The items are priced at $15 or more.

Let the bidding begin….

So if you want to bid on the item up for sale (auction) you place your paddle in the air and a quarter in the cups of the ladies walking around.  You have to pay 25 cents per bid… so if you have 4 paddles, you put in $1 in quarters.  Then they draw a number out of the bucket.  If your number is drawn and you bid on that item, you win that item for 1 quarter.  So you jump up and down screaming that you won.  Some of the reactions were hilarious!

Now if you didn’t bid on that item and your number is called, everyone boo’s you and they draw another number.

When the Passion Parties lady put up some of her items, there were some funny embarrassed looks from people.  It was hilarious!

So 1 paddle and bidding on every item, you are out $13 for the night.  Plus they have door prizes, that first ticket where you put all your information, if your name is drawn out of that pot, you win a door prize.

THEN… if that wasn’t enough…

When you first come in and are paying your $3 to get your paddle, you can buy raffle tickets. 1 ticket for $1, 6 tickets for $5, 12 tickets for $10.

The baskets are friggin awesome.  There are 2.

The first basket, each of the 10 vendors put in a $15ish item.  If your name is drawn you just walked away with 10 items equaling $150.

The second basket is a gift certificate to each of the 10 vendors equaling $15.  So if your name is drawn for this, you win $150 in gift certificates.

Let’s just say, this was so much fun and I can’t wait for next month!  I didn’t have much luck last night, however my mom walked away with a Mishe’ wallet, a Mishe’ bag cover & a door prize.

We laughed because she got 2 Mishe’ items, another gal got 2 jewelry items and another gal got 2 Longaberger items.

Until next time, this is Nicole reporting for, That’s Life
Signing Off

Georgia

Have you ever seen the movie, “Last Holiday”?

Ok so it wouldn’t be cool to be told you have X-number of weeks left on this earth, especially when it was a screw up like that was….

But did you see the Emril entree’s that gal made?  Ok so I know it was a movie… I’m not dumb :)… but How Friggin cool!

And then to just sell off everything you know and make one of your dreams come true?  Ok still they weren’t the most ideal of situations… BUT….

It all worked out in the end… She opened her own restaurant (hope I didn’t just spoil this for someone)…

Hmmmmm……..

Or Paula Deen, who was scared to go out of her house for a long time….

She’s BIG TIME!

Ah now there’s the dream…

Maybe someday that’ll happen!

And there’s no time like the present to find a dream you have and try to make it come true!  Jacin has proved that too us!  I love what she said,

 “Think about it – life’s too short to not live out your dream.  So go for it!  The worst thing that could happen is you never tried at all.”

Note: The title is Queen Latifah’s characters name.

The Exciting and Unknown

My mom gets so tickled at me… I absolutely love to cook!  In fact, I shared with you my passion for cookbooks… remember that??  For Christmas they added to my already large cookbook collection… last night when I went to add them to the shelf, I was out of room… YIKES!  I guess I’ll just move all my cake decorating books to make room for cookbooks.

Anyway the reason my mom gets so tickled at my cooking love is because she HATES to cook.  In fact her mother (aka my grandma) always claimed to HATE cooking.  Funny thing about grandma though was she loved food.  When I was a kid and I would say food was nasty, she’d get mad at me and tell me I wasn’t allowed to say that about any food, but I could say I didn’t like it.

Now on the other hand, my dad’s mother (aka my grandma… LOL) Loves to cook.  My mom thinks that I must have gotten my love for cooking there.  My mom always claimed while dating my dad that my grandma could make a gourmet meal out of trash… LOL.

But I do have a passion for cooking.

I remember my love for cooking came about strong when I was in college.  I happened to be home one Christmas break and bored out of my mind… I’m not sure how stay at home mothers do it (btw back in the day they were called House wives… wonder when that changed).  I like to be out and about and talking to everyone :), I guess I’m kind of social like that… a couple days locked up in the house and I’m stir crazy, but I digress…. moving back to topic….  Just shy of 5pm I stumbled across a Rachael Ray 30 Minute Meals segment on Food Network.  Now first off at that time I had no clue what Food Network even was… I was just perusing through the tv stations.  After that episode, I was hooked!  In fact that night or maybe the next I made her recipe for Mexican Lasagna (minus the beans… shhhh don’t tell her ;))

I think I have been a Rachael Ray fan ever since.  Ok now she has a tv show, how awesome would it be to be on her show!  I know right 🙂

Anyway I have recently taken on an endeavor that may prove to be positive, it may not… but we’ll see.  I’d like to say that I was going to attend the Culinary Institute of America (CIA) I would choose Hyde Park, NY or Le Cordon Bleu in either Paris France or London England but… I’m not that rich!  Or maybe I’d like to say I had my own cooking show (maybe someday but not today)… so anyway I took a leap of faith after much deliberation with my husband and my family and much praying to God about sending me down the right path… so here’s to 2011 and an open door of endless opportunities.

On a side note… have you been to the Rachael Ray website?  She has some pretty cool gadgets!  I’m jealous… LOL

Check out these bad boys!

or this……

or even these… oh wait I have them 🙂

And nope, not getting anything for showing you these products… these are just some… keyword some… of my favorites.  I don’t know Rachael Ray but how cool would it be to know her 🙂

Horses, Butterflies & Cows

 Note this is China, not Lena (who the poem was actually written about)
I just don’t have any show photos of Lena that I can find right now 🙁

Third in the draw, its time to get ready,
Still plenty of time Lena feels good and steady;
Turn some small circles get her head on straight,
Then lope three more rounds before heading to the gate;
With the help in place it’s time to go,
Entering the gate Lena’s walking real slow;
Help’s saying don’t cut the Brammer, Black Mott or Charolais cross,
Cause the last one to try it rode out with a loss;
Cut what waits, don’t get in a hurry,
They act a little spooked but now’s not the time to worry;
Trust your horse, Lena will carry you through,
Cause with all that training she knows what to do;
With the time line crossed, the clock’s a runnin,
The herd moves out and the Brammer comes a gunnin;
Too late to change, the cow’s been chosen,
The Brammer’s mesmerized, like a statue she’s frozen;
The sorrel mare controls the cow like a freshly whipped pup,
No chance to lose that one as Lena’s hooked up;
Head to head and toe to toe,
Across the pen and back they go;
The help yells quit as the Brammer turns away,
Yes, the red mott’s fresh let’s see if she’ll stay;
Again to the herd, a minute thirty on the clock,
Butterflies in your stomach feel just like a rock;
The red mott stays as the others go by,
Would rather cut her standing still, ‘stead of on the fly;
Lena drops down with that look in her eyes,
The cow can’t get by though she really tries;
Corner man says “5 seconds on the clock,”
Butterflies feel more like a hawk than a rock;
Press her to the left with the spur on your boot,
Now the cow’s standing still like her hooves have taken root;
Finally the buzzer signaling time is through,
Leaves thanking the help as the last thing to do;
Take a deep breath and listen for the score,
Good-bye butterflies, as the announcer calls out 74.

A Stockbrokers Dream

A cowboy’s life is what he dreams
his job not quite as great as it seems,
The day begins with the financial news
some days it leaves him with the blues,
Long before dawn the alarm clock rages
awakening him to the financial pages,
The Wall Street Journal and The Morning News
all have to be read while the coffee brews,
Then like a flash to the office he races
talking on the phone round his desk he paces,
Faxes, computers, and sky pagers
are an evil must with the money he wagers,
Business Analysts, Bankers and Economic forecasters
lead the list of people and things he masters,
The stress builds up as the day goes past
and has him musing to himself how long can this last?
At long last comes the 5 o’clock bell
to take him out into “rush hour” hell,
Takes the back way home to catch the business reports
can’t even take time to watch the kids play sports,
Finally it’s late all the news has been watched
all his trades went well with nothing botched,
Then its off to bed and finally some rest
he’s proved once again why he’s the best,
Now here it comes the recurring dream
of the cowboy’s life rising to the top like cream.

Ain't it Great…. Look Who's Eight!!!

Our sweet daughter’s birthday is today!

It’s hard to believe that she is 8 first of all, and second of all, that she’s been in my life for 1 1/2 years now.  Of course she’s been in her daddy’s life her whole 8 years 🙂

She’s celebrating with her mom & step-dad and family this weekend, we’ll get her next, and I’m so excited to give her her birthday present!

Although I still believe that we should celebrate her birthday halfway around the year so she’d get presents year round as opposed to all at once and then she doesn’t get any for the next year… but what do I know 🙂

Maybe someday she’ll understand my reasoning 🙂

Here she is with her daddy the day she came home from the hospital (or so I’m told, I wasn’t there… LOL)

And here she was last year on her birthday

Here she is in April of 2010

Here she is with her daddy at our wedding (Sept 2010)

And here’s the ornery turkey on Christmas Day

Tbug I hope you have a wonderful birthday!!!  Although, boy do you make me feel old! 😉
