Red Hot & Blue

Spread the love

As I’ve recently mentioned, Tbug has been really busy with her cheerleading this year and missed a weekend with us due to a competition.  So last weekend we had a make-up weekend.  Now she has cheer practice on Friday nights so usually hubby and I have to kill a little time before we can go pick her up.

We decided to go out to dinner to a restaurant that hubby holds near and dear to his heart, Red Hot & Blue.  Why you may ask?  This just happened to be the restaurant that hubby took my dad to the day he asked my dad if he could marry me.

When the Tornado tore through Joplin in May 2011 they had a bit of damage to the building but luckily nothing bad.

I so need to look into this club!!

The sauces they have out on the table for you.  Hubby was telling me which ones were good, oh wait, he said they all were.  I didn’t try anything.  I know, what was I thinking….

When our server came over and asked if we’d like an appetizer, that’s almost like pulling teeth because I’m so indecisive and so is hubby.  But we finally decided on Fried Pickles.

Fried Pickles

Tickle your taste buds with this Southern tradition.  Served with a side of ranch.

Now generally I don’t like the pickle spears but these were really good.  The batter was thick and had a nice flavor. And the ranch made it all that much better!

Hubby chose to go with the Catfish.

Fried Delta Catfish

Two Mississippi farm-raised catfish filets, hand- breaded and golden fried or Cajun fried. Blackened available upon request.

Again as I’ve stated many times before (over redundant!) I don’t care for fish, but I tried it.  To me, it was a bit on the fishy side, but hubby really enjoyed it.  I also snagged a bite of his cornbread biscuit, yum!

I decided to go for an appetizer as my meal.  I chose the Nantucket Nachos.

Nantucket Nachos
Corn tortilla chips and pulled chicken covered with our creamy blend of spinach and artichoke dip, topped with melted Monterrey Jack cheese, tomatoes, green onions, jalapeños, and roasted corn.

Oh goodness… best decision of my life :).  Ok maybe that’s a bit extreme but I was fat and happy if nothing else.  I didn’t try any of the salsa on the nachos because they Just. Didn’t. Need. It.  The jalapenos were a bit on the spicy side but I managed to eat them.  The chips were the thin type that are nice and crunchy.  The roasted corn was an extra kick, but the main event was the spinach & artichoke dip on top of nachos with the pulled smokey chicken!  OMG.  I couldn’t finish it all because that was a huge plate so I actually brought it home and had leftovers for lunch one day this week.  Yup, I got to enjoy it again!

So I would say Yum!  This would like get 6 stars out of 5.  I mean it was just that good.  The service was good, the food was good.  I’m ready to go back and sadly it’s a place we don’t think to go quite as often, but that’s not to say we won’t from here on out!
