Johnboat Cafe – Take 2 – Duenweg, MO

So last year I wrote my first ever restaurant review on Johnboat Cafe.

We stumbled in on a whim and found one of our favorite restaurants to eat at.  That day, dad, hubby and I all ate the Pork Tenderloin sandwich but we’ve all since gone back and tried Gator, Crocodile, Gumbo, fish, whatever.  There are so many fun things on the menu and hubby is all about the fishy type foods.  I always try a bite of his, but generally stick with my Pork Tenderloin sandwich.

In fact, we like this place so much we’ve taken my mom, my grandma, my mother-in-law and I’ve told so many people about it, it’s not even funny.

So a few weeks ago hubby and I decided to grab lunch and chose to go to Johnboat.

Crabby’s Seafood Bar & Grill – Joplin, MO

A couple weekends ago hubby and I were wanting to go to dinner.  We kept throwing out different restaurant ideas and finally decided upon Crabby’s Seafood Bar & Grill.  I had eaten there for work once but he’d never eaten there.  He googled the menu which contains a lot of seafood which I”m not in to but I assured him I’d find something to eat.

Red Hot & Blue

As I’ve recently mentioned, Tbug has been really busy with her cheerleading this year and missed a weekend with us due to a competition.  So last weekend we had a make-up weekend.  Now she has cheer practice on Friday nights so usually hubby and I have to kill a little time before we can go pick her up.

We decided to go out to dinner to a restaurant that hubby holds near and dear to his heart, Red Hot & Blue.  Why you may ask?  This just happened to be the restaurant that hubby took my dad to the day he asked my dad if he could marry me.

When the Tornado tore through Joplin in May 2011 they had a bit of damage to the building but luckily nothing bad.

Red Onion Cafe – Joplin, MO

Hubby and I made plans to go out to dinner Saturday night after I got done with the girls and he was done chopping wood for the house.  I was being pretty wishy washy about even going and didn’t know where I wanted to go or what even sounded good when I just smarted off, Red Onion.  Hubby was like, you know, that sounds good.  I probably haven’t eaten there in 15 years or something.  Yup, he just dated himself. lol.

Red Onion is kind of off the beaten path that we generally run so I never really think of it, but  you want to talk about GOOD food… this is the place!

Valentine's Day

He never ceases to amaze me.  He had me believing that I wouldn’t get flowers this year, just like he had me believing he couldn’t propose yet (3 years ago).  And I had made my peace with it even though I might have been a bit sad…

Then he came through!

This boy knocks my socks off every day of my life 🙂

Then he was going to take me out to dinner, but I preferred to stay home and just hang out with him.  We debated what we’d have for dinner and decided in the end I’d pick up Chinese.  I had Cashew Chicken and he had General Tso Chicken.

And you remember how I told you to add “In Bed” to the end of your fortunes.  I laughed because this one so worked 🙂

Happy Monday!

ReRico’s Brazilian Steakhouse – Springfield, MO

Last week hubby and I discussed what we were going to do this weekend.  Eventually he asked if I would go to ReRico Brazilian Grill with him in Springfield.  He’s been wanting to try a Brazilian Steakhouse out and he found this one.  I just so happened to find a groupon the day before for this steakhouse.  So we decided to make reservations (so glad we did) and head up for a fun day of togetherness.

Our reservations were for 6:30 but by about 6 we’d exhausted all of what we wanted to do so we headed to the restaurant early.  They were busy by 6 and said they really couldn’t get us in until closer to our reservation, no problem.

We were standing close to the hostess station and in the 30 minutes we were there the wait time (without reservations) went from 25 minutes to an hour wait.  The lobby was packed!  That to me was a sign this place might be good.  The gentleman standing next to me asked if it was always packed or if it was packed because Valentine’s Day was coming up this week, but sadly I didn’t know.

6:30 on the spot, they called our name and we had a table.  So you come in and they take your drink order, we both went with Sweet Tea, although trying one of the many Brazilian style drinks could have been fun too.  Then they ask if you’ve dined with them before.  No, ok well you get your first course, unlimited trips to the salad bar, then when you’re ready you flip from red to green, the waiter brings you a clean plate and the guys with meat come around.  The meat is generally cooked Medium to Medium Rare but if you need more done, they’ll accommodate you.  Plus you get sides and then (not included in price) you have the dessert cart come around.

Warning: Don’t fill up on all the before stuff!

Marshiano’s Olde Time Pizzeria – Miller, MO

In a way, I feel like Miller is part of an old stomping ground for me.  I spent Friday’s of one semester and an entire semester 5-6 days per week in Miller back when I was in college.  Why you may ask?  Well, my degree is to be a High School Agriculture and Miller has a very nice Agriculture department, and that just so happens to be where I was placed to do my student teaching.

A couple of months ago, hubby and I were out driving around and wound up in Miller and I was telling him what I knew about the school and the town.  Now, Miller is not big at all – Population roughly 700.  But I would bet that half of the school was involved in the Agriculture program at some point or another in their high school careers.

We wound up driving down one of the main streets that takes you past the Post office when we saw this pizza place.  The funny thing was later that weekend at Sunday Night Dinner, Earl & Pokey were mentioning this pizza place in Miller that we all needed to go eat at.

Finally, Friday night worked out that we were able to eat here and Pokey & Early were able to join us.  Let me introduce you to a horrible iPhone picture taken at 8:30 at night of the yummy Pizza Place – Marshiano’s Olde Time Pizzeria.

I really wanted to try the Chicken Alfredo Pizza but we decided on trying the Jumpin Jack Pizza instead. (more…)

Longhorn Steakhouse – Tulsa, OK

Back at the beginning of January we tried to go to Longhorn in Joplin for Tbug’s birthday but were unable to get in due to the sheer volume of people and wait time, on a Wednesday no less.

One thing we debated that night was if Tbug had ever been to a Longhorn Steakhouse.  We weren’t sure until we got down to Tulsa for Tbug’s cheer competition.  After her competition, she went to eat lunch with all of us.  We chose to go to Longhorn Steakhouse in Tulsa which reminded us that, Yes, she has been to a Longhorn Steakhouse, the previous year with us.

As with the Longhorn in Joplin, you start with unlimited freshly-baked Honey Wheat bread and butter.  YUM! (more…)

Weekend – Better Late than Never!

Friday night started off with date night with hubby.

After that we headed over to A’s house for a Thirty One party.  Yup, I drug hubby over with me :).  He agreed.  We I He bought me this bag in purple paisley to keep my sewing stuff together since right now it’s all in a Wal-Mart bag with a hole in it 🙂

Then we went home, took showers and went to bed.  By the way, wondering how I take a shower without getting my hair wet?  Photos:

Saturday morning hubby woke up and went to help my dad move hay while I went to my grandma’s to take some material and patterns I had bought for a skirt and a shirt.

Then we met up at my parents house along with hubby’s mom and all 5 of us headed to Tulsa to see Tbug’s Cheer competition, where we’re happy to announce, they received second place!

After she was finished performing but before the awards she went with us to eat lunch/dinner.  When I jumped up into the back seat of my dad’s truck I was taking my camera off my neck and it cracked me in the head.  Camera -1 Nicole-0

We went to Longhorn Steakhouse

Then we took Tbug back to her mom and step-dad and we headed off into the wild blue yonder.  Actually Pokey had called and asked hubby if we were near a Wal-mart if we could look for something that no one around home had.  Sad to say 3 Wal-marts later no luck.  But we did walk away with an extremely awesome 9×13 Paula Deen Stoneware pan that matches my pie plate I got for a wedding present.

We also had to go to a Reasors grocery store, btw, if you’re from Reasors and here on this blog, please open these up back home STAT!  While at Reasors though, we found Tastykakes.  Now if you are a Stephanie Plum fan, you know what these are!!!

Then we were home bound.

Sunday we woke up and while hubby did homework, Marlie and I hung out in the kitchen making Breakfast & Lowfat Banana bread & Ham wrapped Pickles (recipe to come)

I promise I’m not holding her down, I was rubbing her belly.

Then I took down our Christmas tree (don’t judge) and watch Julie & Julia while hubby went over to friend’s house.  Then I got a phone call I needed to come over because there was a great blogging opportunity – Wings.

And then some fun target shooting practice

and now we’re at Wednesday and I have a cold.  I think tooo much running this weekend… lol.  Happy Wednesday!!

Japanese Steak House

One day last week hubby told me he was feeling the Japanese Steakhouse and that we should go there again soon since we hadn’t been there in a while.  I said, ok sounds good to me.

Friday one of my friends was having a Thirty One party and invited me, however when I got home from work I was ready to crash on the couch and not wake up until Saturday.  Hubby walked in and asked me, first off if I was going to make it, and secondly if I was going to the party or not.  I told him I was really undecided.  Finally I thought, no, I don’t think I am.

So he told me to put on my coat and go get in the truck.  I was like really?  I want to sleep!  But he told me there was time for that later so I grabbed my jacket and we piled into the truck.

We were driving down the road and I was telling him about different restaurants (no idea how that came up) and finally I was like, where are we going?  He wouldn’t tell me but finally said if I thought hard I’d figure it out.  Finally I realized where we were going – Tokyo Japanese Steak & Sushi.

When we got there, there was a 20 minute wait, although I’m fairly certain we didn’t wait that long.

Oddly enough hubby and I ordered the same thing, which doesn’t generally happen all that often 🙂

We started off with California Roll Sushi.  I’m not always so sure about Sushi but the first time I had one of these, some guy was on a date with his girlfriend/fiance/wife/significant other and they conned me in to trying one.  I didn’t even know these people, and before you judge too much, you sit at a table with multiple people unless you have a huge party and I watched the waitress bring them out.  Plus I was with my parents and of course my parents thought I had flipped my lid trying sushi, but oddly enough those weren’t bad.
