George Strait Concert Kansas City: Where We Stayed and Ate

Spread the love

We saw George Strait in concert. The end.

Haha, no, but seriously, we did! He was friggin awesome!! So here’s how our day/trip went.

Hubby and I have been doing Keto (More to come on that). We decided that we could find something to eat at José Peppers. Plus, we really like José Peppers… win win.

Now, if you know anything about Keto… you know there is no eating carbs. But, we were on a trip so trip carbs don’t count, right? haha. Just kidding. So Keto allows you a very small amount, so we decided to get the stuffed Jalapeño Peppers. They are that good. They are worth the carbs. We’ve had them so many times. I’ve even had them as a meal. Yes, they are that good.

Then, we went back on track. Hubby went with the Blackened Chicken Verde minus the rice and tortilla shells. What is that? Well, it’s blackened chicken breast sliced atop roasted poblano sauce and jalapeño cream cheese. Served with a side of guac, pico de gallo, (and tortillas, and cilantro rice). Holy yum. I wish I would have gotten this. It was amazing.

So what did I get, you ask? Santa Fe Cobb Salad. Thinly sliced chicken, fresh greens, avocado, cheese, bacon, tomato, and egg tossed in buttermilk ranch dressing. It was okay. It’s not really what I wanted. Hubby’s was better. But this was good. It was a salad after all…

We actually got to Kansas City a little early to check into our hotel room, so we were trying to decide what to do to kill time. We finally decided to head to Nebraska Furniture Mart. We’re on the hunt for new furniture. In fact, we have some picked out. But we thought a) we’d see what they had and b) maybe they had what we wanted, cheaper. News flash, they had what we wanted, cheaper!! We didn’t buy it today thought… we were in a rental truck after what happened on New Year’s Day… so… I took pictures of the information and we’ll be back.

Finally, it was time to check in to the hotel. It was kind of a fustercluck in front of the building. Road work. Hello, downtown city life :). At one point we accidentally got blocked in, but the guys were great and helped us back out of their parking area. One thing to consider is it is all valet parking. Anyway, it was while we were there. I’m not sure if it is always or if it was because of the road construction…

Our Room

Our room was awesome. This was the view as we walked in the door. We had a King Sized room. It’s perfect for a long-term stay! Probably why it’s called Residence Inn. But it worked for us because it was within walking distance of the Sprint Center. So we just walked to the concert.

This was a full-service mini kitchen. And that couch wasn’t bad to sit on, plus very modern and stylish.

Off to the bathroom plus a walkinish type closet.

The shower was interesting. I kept feeling like I was going to flood the bathroom, but just outside the shower was a drain. I dunno. It might have been a handicapped room, or all rooms might be like this… I’m not sure. I was just in this room.

Fogo De Cháo Brazillian Steakhouse

222 W 47th St
Kansas City, MO 64112

So we decided to go up to the Kansas City Plaza to eat dinner. There are a lot of good restaurant options. Initially, we discussed all of our options, then hubby decided, let’s try something new. Heck yeah, I didn’t have to decide. Now, this was a different restaurant than the one we thought we were going to when we initially discussed our options, but it didn’t disappoint.

If you’ve never been to a Brazillian steakhouse, the way it works is you order a plate. Then there is a salad bar that has many side options. But why get those and fill up when you get all the meat you can eat. No joke. So they give you a place card that is red on one side and green on the other. Green means come, red means stop. They come around with different cuts of meat. Plus they gave us pao de queijo… Brazillian bread. It’s made with Yucca flour. That stuff is high carb, so we each ate half just so we knew what it tasted like. It was good, but just that bite is all we ate.

José Peppers

On the way home, we decided to hit José Peppers up again. It’s just so darn yummy.

Yes, we had the peppers again. Jumbo Stuffed Jalapeños. Chicken, jalapeño cream cheese, and jack cheese breaded and served crispy with a side of tomatillo ranch.

I had Roasted Poblano Peppers. Pepper stuffed with sautéed peppers, onions, and cheese. Baked with sour cream roasted green chile sauce and cheese. OMG, why didn’t I get this the day before? YUM! I almost tried to lick the plate clean. Don’t worry, I didn’t.

Hubby went with Fajitas. you know, minus the tortillas :).
