King George – The Bucket List

Spread the love

King George. That’s all I need to say. If you don’t know who he is… we might not be friends. Haha.

Okay, so King George is also known as George Strait. One of the best singers of all time. He could sing the phone book and make it a #1 hit.

When I was younger, I always said that there were 3 men… a cutting horse trainer, a family friend who also showed cutting horses, and George Strait. My dad used to laugh at this. They don’t let me forget that either.

I have always wanted to see him in concert too, but then in 2012, he announced that his Cowboy Rides Away Tour would be his last tour. He was retiring. And… I didn’t get to see him. I was a little frustrated. The tour ended on June 7, 2014. That was it. I was so sad and frustrated.

BUT then… he announced that he was going to do a very short tour, including Las Vegas. My parent’s trip last summer got rerouted to Las Vegas and they got to see him in concert. My dad bragged and bragged. Last fall I had some friends who were headed to Las Vegas and I asked if they were going to see George Strait? They said, No, Reba. And somehow that got us started looking up George Strait.

My friend Shaye, who was looking this up with me, found tickets to see him in Kansas City in January for dirt cheap. I didn’t believe her so I mentioned something to hubby. Next thing I know…

We. Had. Tickets.

Now, Kansas City in January is an iffy subject. It could be snowing or it could be nice. We lucked out it was nice! We’re talking 40˚F during the day and 28˚F at night. NICE weather! But enough about the weather, we’re here to talk about King George!

George Strait started his music career in a rock and roll garage band. The Beatles were popular when he was in high school. Who didn’t want to be a Beatle? His influences turned him country very soon. Thank goodness!

What makes him even better is he was a military man. He served this country in the US Army from 1971-1975.

We also have something in common… we both have an Agriculture degree!

In 2018, he released a single called “Código” after a brand of tequila produced by a company that he invested in.

Hubby and I both had, “See George Strait in concert” on our Bucket List.

We were so excited. One of the best things about George Strait… He walks around and sings to all sides of the stage, all sides of the arena. How great is that? Honestly!! Although his backside isn’t terrible to look at. Shhhh, don’t tell my hubby. haha.

At the point, we thought the concert was over because he walked around the stage and waved at all… I told hubby he wasn’t done. He said, yeah, he’ll do an encore, but what makes you say that? I told him that his last song would be “Cowboy Rides Away.”

Hubby wasn’t sure that he agreed that would be the last song, but he agreed they’d be back. And of course, they were back!

And, if anyone wonders… The last song was “Cowboy Rides Away.”
