Dinner Club – Taste of Italy

Back in 2009 a group of friends and I decided to start what we called Dinner Club. I have mentioned this a few times I know. It was a lot of fun. At that time we had a few “rules,”

  1. A non-chain restaurant
  2. Local – within about an hours drive or so
  3. The dress was business casual or dressier

That was about it. Business casual consisted of the ladies in dresses of some sort and the guys in khakis and at least a polo or button-down. We had a few dinners where the guys wore suits. This is why my husband owns a suit. Although he never wore it to a dinner club.

Side story:

My husband and I went on our first date at the July Dinner Club that year. He got thrown into the shark tank. I basically made him meet all my friends that night it felt like. Not quite but pretty darn close. The dress that night was business casual to a little dressier.

He was living in Kentucky at the time. Because of that, he wasn’t able to make all of the Dinner Club dinners. During the September dinner club, somehow I wound up at the mall. There was a sale on suits at JC Penney. With the help of the sales associate and all of us (sales associate, hubby, and me) discussing on the phone, I bought hubby a suit. When he came back home the next time he tried it on and it fit perfectly.

Here’s an additional side note: This isn’t the first suit I’ve bought for someone that fit perfectly. It’s now happened 3 times. Maybe I should be a personal shopper… except I’m not huge on shopping really…

He’s never worn that suit to a dinner club. I bought it in September. We finished out the year, had one get together in 2010, and that was it. He has worn the suit to funerals.

Dinner club this time isn’t nearly that fancy. While I’d do it, because I never get a chance to dress up, no one else really will. Plus, I don’t have any dress-up clothes. So there is that as a thing I guess. My outfit of choice these days seems to be boots, jeans, and a t-shirt.

Anyway, I digress again… On New Year’s Day, one of the people I mentioned the dinner club idea to said, “when are we going to start?” Then he decided on Friday night we were going to Taste of Italy. We decided that would be the start of Dinner Club. Now, we just have to keep it going.

We had a table reserved for like 21 or 22 people. I lost count. We had 18 show up. I believe it was 21 because we had 2-3 that were a maybe.

This wasn’t the first time hubby, Abug, and I had eaten here. In fact, a couple of weeks earlier we were turned away. It was a busy night and they had so many reservations.

This was such a fun evening. The food was good and the company was better.

Abug loves mozzarella sticks, so we got those as an appetizer (no pic of course).

I have tried multiple different types of food there. This is Chicken piccata. Definitely a good choice. Sautéed chicken in white wine, lemon, butter sauce served over linguini noodles with capers. YUM!

I asked where we should go next month. A bunch of this group will be in Cozumel for a combination of 3 weeks so they told me a restaurant down there. Uh, I’m not going to Cozumel, so I guess we’ll have to see.
