Finger Lickin’ Fifteen

So truth… I like real books. Point blank. I like the feel of the pages and the smell and the weight and the ability to turn pages. But… I also like my Kindle. Mainly at night when everyone else goes to sleep, but I’m wide awake, I can read in the dark. So I’m torn on which I prefer. Currently, I’m reading a book book and a book on my Kindle. I just started the one on my Kindle last night. And boy was that a shocker. I was updating my Good Reads App and realized I read one more book than I thought. I started to read Finger LIckin’ Fifteen last night and what do you know, I read it last month. Apparently, I just forgot.

I mentioned before that these books are all kind of the same but different. You just have to remember if Stephanie and Joe Morelli are on or off in that particular book. The rest is similar but different. LOL. But I like them because they are quick reads. And after I realized I had already read this book, which by the way I thought was fourteen… I remembered how much I laughed because of Lula farting. Read it. That part will make sense. (more…)

Fearless Fourteen

Janet Evanovich Fearless Fourteen Book Cover

Guys, I’m back at it. This time let’s discuss one of the Stephanie Plum Novels, Fearless Fourteen. Now here is where I should say that I started reading this prior to grad school and then BAM! Grad School hit and I had no time for personal books. I know I’ve been out of Grad School since May 2016, that’s almost 2 years, but I finally got around to reading this… again.

Fearless Fourteen

Personal vendettas, hidden treasure, and a monkey named Carl will send bounty hunter Stephanie Plum on her most explosive adventure yet.
The Crime: Armed robbery to the tune of nine million dollars
Dom Rizzi robbed a bank, stashed the money, and did the time. His family couldn’t be more proud. He always was the smart one.
The Cousin: Joe Morelli
Joe Morelli, Dom Rizzi, and Dom’s sister, Loretta, are cousins. Morelli is a cop, Rizzi robs banks, and Loretta is a single mother waiting tables at the firehouse. The all-American family.

Just One Trilogy Book Cover

Just before Christmas, I was wandering through Sam’s with my mom, aunt, and Abug. Now if there is one thing I can tell you, Abug LOVES Books. I love that about her. By the way, Tbug loves books too! Score!

Anyway… we were wandering around Sam’s Club and Abug took us over by the books. Since Grad School, I haven’t read a whole lot of books, to be honest. And truthfully I felt like something was missing in my life. At the same time, I read such intense, thinker type books in grad school I wasn’t sure what to read now.

When I was in Grad school one of the classes I had made us think about how we read literature. So you could read a book in your 20’s, 30’s, and 40’s and have a different opinion on it every time. I wish I could remember which professor told us that. It was either Dr. Carlson or Dr. McCallum and I can’t remember. Either way, they taught us that your life experiences help mold your impression on things. So a book you read in high school that you absolutely adored could have a different impression on you once you got into your 40’s. I had a lot of thought-provoking classes like that.

So back to Christmas time. I keep picking up books not knowing if I really want to read them or not. But there was a book that caught my attention. It was a 3 part trilogy all in one book. Score! (more…)

A Book I Love & One I Didn’t | Blogging 30

A book I like

Why oh why did I pull a book off my comps list? Because Jane Austen had a way with words. You could even debate that she was a feminist before feminism was a thing. 1775-1817… And the character of Elizabeth was a very strong willed woman. Yes, she ended up with a man at the end, but she challenged Mr. Darcy at every turn. In fact, he was quite appalled by her at first, yet so intrigued.

Secondly, I have a thing for the British. I love their writing, their words, the look of London in pictures and movies. I really want to visit London someday. It’s on my list.

Someone who Fascinates me and why | Blogging 30

*via*

I was sitting here thinking, who fascinates me? Is it sad I chose a character out of a novel?

While debating who really fascinated me, I went and googled the word fascinate. I really just wanted a good definition. I was hoping that a definition would help me decide who truly fascinated me.

Fascinate: draw irresistibly the attention and interest of (someone).

Who draws my attention? Sure, I like people like Jennifer Anniston, Courtney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, etc. Wow, I just named all the female Characters from Friends. Sad but true… but do they truly fascinate me? Not really. There are the male characters as well, David Schwimmer, Matt Le Blanc, and Matthew Perry. I just had to name them all.

There are people who every so often I need to look up information on, or would at least like to look information up on. Oddly enough, I think I’m one of those people who eat up information. It’s kind of an annoying habit really. Just the other day I got teased for being the “internet look up lady.” I think it was meant to be funny, but I am that person. When I want to know something, I look it up. I like to know things. And remember, if it is on the internet it MUST be true. ha!

But who truly fascinates me? That’s when it hit me…..

Comps Book List Update

Here it is 9:45pm on a Friday night. Is it sad that I’m home and sitting in bed? Wow, that’s so not how life was even a few years ago… some Friday nights I was getting Mike & Ike’s bounced off my head (lol love you Earl). I had other plans for a post for today, then last night hit and I had an allergic reaction to something. I don’t know what but my lip swelled up huge! It was CRAZY! This is the second time in 2 weeks this has happened. But nothing seems to be the same to cause the reaction. Anyway so I came home and took 2 Benadryl and well…. I fell asleep. I woke up this morning groggy, my lip was still swollen, I took another Benadryl and I was out again. (and no, there are no pictures… well there are but I’m too self conscious to post those on the internet!)

So since this post was written and waiting to be published sometime the beginning of this month, now seems like as good of time as any, especially since I now have 27, almost 26 days until Comps. Maybe… just maybe I’m having an allergic reaction to all the stress from studying for Comps while still taking classes…. Just a thought.

The other day I was camped out in the library between my morning class and waiting for study group. I sat for so long that when I stood up I felt a vibration in my legs. I’m pretty sure it was the blood pumping through my veins again.

Okay so this is the month of doom. I have comps the end of this month. Yes, I know I mention it a lot but I’m kind of freaking out! I have 3 chances to pass and then I don’t know what happens. No pressure or anything.

So basically they pass it out, we answer short answer and essay. Then there is an odd number of American professors and an odd number of British professors (specialty not where they’re from….) who grade it. It’s pass or fail. You have to have majority pass or else… you fail. Again, no pressure.

So anyway I’m doing an update on my list and where I stand… well because if nothing else it helps keep me on track, it gets my cheerleaders screaming for me and whatever…. 4 weeks baby, 4 weeks (or something like that)

Favorite book | Blogtober ’14

Is it a cop-out to say I love a series? I’m not sure I have 1 favorite book, I like lots of different books, and sadly Romance novels are sometimes my favorite types… but I love the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. I’m a little behind on reading them… I’m at book 14. Finding time these days among reading class work is difficult. But I think Hard Eight is so far my favorite book.

Well Read Individual

I love to read.  The imagination of it all is great.  Sadly, sometimes I feel like I just don’t have enough hours in the day to get everything done that I want and still get sleep.  So when I read about bloggers who go through 100 books a year, etc, plus they’re married, have a job, etc etc etc, I just am in shock and awe as to how they do it all!  I struggled it felt like getting through 10 books for this challenge.  Part of my problem is I have quite a few books I’ve started, just not finished.  Apparently patience or ADD or something kicked in and no I don’t have ADD although I sometimes think that everyone has a very mild case because people are so easily distracted.  I dunno…. I’m no expert by any means!  Anyway, Here are the 10 books that I read cover to cover and considered for my 101 list.  One more thing to check off.  yehaw!  They were all good reads and brought different things to the table, although there is a definite pattern between cooking and photography, don’t you think 🙂

Book’s read for the 101 List:

1.  The Pioneer Woman Cooks Cookbook: Recipes from an Accidental Country Girl
October 2010 (yes I read it cover to cover)

2.  The Everygirl’s Guide to Life by Maria Menounos
April 2011
