Happy Birthday

Today is my 33rd birthday. 33, wow. I can remember when I thought someone in their 30’s was old. I guess now I’m old? Remind me of this statement when I’m 40, please. Once upon a time I did a 101 in 1001 list… 101 items to complete in 1001 days. I’m not really willing to try that again right now. I told my dad yesterday morning that I heard your 30’s were supposed to be better than your 20’s. He told me, “You are what you make it. It is all state of mind.”

I believe goals help you achieve things. So I decided to set 33 goals for my 33rd year. Help keep me on track, please!
Still to do     In Progress     Accomplished + the date

  1. Pay off my car.
  2. Break Abug’s mare, Little Pi, to ride

  4. Lose 33 pounds. (roughly at 10-15 in this goal….)

Happy Birthday

Today is my 33rd birthday. I’m struggling with that number. While I’m happy that I am on this side of the ground, I’ve always heard that your 30’s are better than your 20’s. I mentioned that to my dad yesterday morning and he said it’s all in perspective. Perspective… Okay. Well if it is about perspective, I’m going to make 33 goals for this year. I did a 101 in 1001 project once upon a time. 1001 days is a little longer than a year (as in 2.75 years) and I wanted something a little more specific to my 33rd year

My upcoming 65th Birthday… what?

My birthday is coming up… did you know that? Normally I might not even mention it (yeah right… lol) but the reason I’m bringing this up 15 days beforehand is not because I’m giving you guys ample time to buy me a gift, but something to laugh about instead.

Last time I checked I’m going to be 33 (I think).  But the other day I got a letter from an insurance company telling me about the best packages I could purchase to supplement my insurance before my upcoming 65th birthday.

Wait, what…. I’m going to be 65? Dang I look good for my age! I started to think they mixed my birth year up from 1983 to 1938 but that would make me 78 so I’m not sure. Plus… I’ve been married for going on 6 years this fall and… have lived in my house that long yet they are sending it to my maiden name at my parents address. I’m so confused!

Do I not only not know my age but my name and my address too? Wow, maybe this old age thing is really getting to me…. I should go lie down and figure this out…..

Birthday Party Take 2, But 1

Is that title confusing to anyone else? Okay, I’ll explain. If there is one thing I can tell you about my baby girl it is that she is loved. She is loved by a lot of people. We got involved with our diving group in 2013 when we got certified and they are a second family! Or really, they are family. That’s the best way to describe it. And baby girl got herself one heck of a family! So her birthday was on Sunday, but that Saturday we were at the lake for the Safari Hunt. That evening, we had a small birthday party for her at the lake for those who couldn’t make her birthday party on Sunday. So this kid had 2 birthday parties, this was the first and her actual birthday date was the second. Therefore, Birthday party 1, but post 2. Did you follow all of that? If not, just know my baby girl has one heck of an awesome family both blood and personally added!

We’re a lively bunch, I tell ya! Watch out for us!

So during the Safari Hunt, she played hard. Eventually she took a nap. We got her back up to Deb and Grady’s camper without waking her up and I got her on their couch so she took about a 2 hour nap. When she woke up, I’m not sure she was ready, so she cried and cried. The only person who could console her was daddy!

It’s Her Party and she’ll cry if she wants to

Did you know I have a toddler on my hands. Oh you did? Well did you know my Toddler is Two? Can you believe it? I’m not sure I can. Someone please pinch me and tell me how in the world she got to be so grown up. Seems just like yesterday I was trying to wake hubby up to take me to the hospital so we could do this thing. I still remember most of that day word for word… or thought for thought… or whatever… In fact, I think I remember that better than the day I got married, but I guess the day I got married was about 4 years before that so there is that. Anyway, moving on….

Abug is totally in to Minnie Mouse right now, so my goal was to throw her a Minnie Mouse Birthday Party. I scoured the internet for ideas and themed parties. I stumbled across a cake in the shape of Minnie Mouse, done by circular cake pans so I decided that’s the cake we were going to make her. I was sad because I baked my cake and it dried out. My week/weekend was hectic, so I baked the cake on Thursday for the Sunday birthday party. I guess no wonder it dried out. Oh well…

My mom and I went to Party City on Tuesday last week to look for decorations when we found this gliding Minnie Mouse Balloon. Mom said she needed it because how many times will her granddaughter turn 2. When Liss and Wes got to our house, I still didn’t have it blown up, so I got Wes to help me because I wasn’t sure what I was doing. They would have blown it up for us at the store, but we bought it 5 days before the party and didn’t want to take our chances so we bought a helium tank at Walmart.

This one time I went to a 1st Birthday Party

Okay truthfully I guess I’ve been to more than one… but this is the most recent. My niece just turned 1 last Friday (the 5th). Her birthday party was on Sunday. My SIL asked me to take a few photos… wouldn’t you know my camera was DEAD. So I stole hers, which I’d been wanting to play with one like anyway so it was the perfect opportunity. 🙂

Getting those Creative Juices Flowing… hopefully….

Happy Saturday. Yes, I’m writing on a Saturday. I have a presentation and a paper due for my Digital Humanities class this week and back in grade school they always said to just start writing to get those creative juices flowing. So that’s what I’m doing. I’m writing to get those creative juices flowing so that I can write my paper and make my presentation.

In my Memoir class Dr. Morris had us do an exercise on that “first line” of works. We just had to pick up books and read those first lines. Have you ever done that? It’s quite interesting. We had to examine 10-20 works and then narrow it down to 10-12 that we liked. Then we had to examine our own works and our own first lines. I actually admitted in class I blog. I think it makes me sound like a nerd even though I do like it. I really do, sometimes probably more than I should. I guess if I’m going to be a nerd I should own up to it. I have the glasses and I was a band geek. In fact, my dad loves to point out that I could have had a scholarship if not a full ride scholarship to play in the band in college and he wouldn’t have had to pay for me to go to college. Sorry dad! I also heard if you are musically inclined you’re good at Math. At one time I was good at Math… now… well I have my moments.

My first line of this post by the way… Happy Saturday. Real engaging, right? So in my research for my Memoir class… One of the books I picked up was Taya Kyle’s American Wife: Love, War, Faith, and Renewal. Here’s her first line…

“If I could sum up my life in four words, they would be these: Love, War, Faith, Renewal, taken together, these have brought me great joy, though with that joy I have also found the deepest sorrow.”

If you don’t know who Taya Kyle is, she was married to Chris Kyle, the American Sniper who was killed on American soil after he retired from the military and joined forces in helping other solders with PTSD.  Anyway, her opening line is much better than my Happy Saturday! That’s for sure! If you’ve made it this far, thanks and congrats. I might shut up now, but not before I give you a restaurant review because, well… that’s what I do.

This week a friend of ours turned 16. Wow I remember turning 16. We were getting ready to go home when they asked if we wanted to join them for dinner for his birthday. We said sure. The plans were to go to Old Chicago which is a new pizza place here in the area.

They gave Abug a kids menu but were out of crayons so we gave her an ink pen. Then I stole it and wrote on hubby because I mean, why not! It says SHMILY in case you can’t figure out. It might be a bit of a stretch but you can see it.

Tbug’s 13th Birthday

I now officially have a teenager on my hands. Holy cow how did that happen? Tbug has been in my life since she was 6 1/2 years old and now she’s a teenager.  The first night I met her she called me her dad’s girlfriend. The next night she was using Memaw’s car hood as a slide and when I said she might not want to do that, I was basically told to mind my own business (not in those words). A lot has changed in 6 1/2 years, a lot!

And sadly I suck these days at taking pictures. I’m not sure what that’s all about… So the big things… Tbug turned 13. We celebrated her birthday on the 1st since this was her mom’s birthday. I heard she was having a sleepover at her mom’s and making her own birthday cake… red velvet with cream cheese icing.
