Hubby’s Smoked Beans

If there’s one thing my husband likes to do, it’s using his smoker.  When we first started dating I heard all about it, and I still do.  Not complaining because he’s good at it!  Just saying, that’s one of his specialties.  Sadly, one of his favorite things to make is smoked beans.  I don’t like beans and yes I’ve tried his.  They taste like beans to me, although they do have a good smoked flavor, I’m just not quite to the point of saying I like smoked beans.  The good news is though, everyone else loves his smoked beans!  Does that mean I just have no taste?  I dunno, you decide :).

So here’s how he does his magic.
He generally starts with 4 cans of Pork and Beans

Next, he covers it in bar-b-q sauce.  He just eyeballs it…

Then you add in Mustard.  Again, he eyeballs it.  I know, such a detailed recipe huh?

Cover it in pepper.  Remember you have 4 cans of Pork and Beans so be liberal within reason of your pepper.

Then, cover in brown sugar.

So now, as a reminder we have Pork and Beans, we have pepper, Bar-b-q sauce, mustard, and brown sugar.  Then we’re going to cover the whole thing with a whole onion sliced.

Next, you’re going to pop it into your smoker.  Low and slow.  About 225 degrees for about 2 1/2 hours.

And then you take it out and enjoy at picnics, get-togethers, Sunday Night Dinners, 4th of July… the possibilities are endless!

And there you have it.  Hubby’s smoked beans.
