Well Isn't This a Surprise….???….

This wasn’t my post thought for today…. In fact I really debated on doing another recipe… because, well…. that’s what I had planned…. But then……….

So I went to Zumba last night and then to a meeting.  On my way to the meeting I called home but PC didn’t answer so I went on to my meeting.  Just after it started he called me.  I shot him a text telling him the meeting had already started and asked if all was ok.  He said yes but call me the minute you get a chance.

Yeah… that bothered me just a bit but I went on with the meeting.  When it was over I called home to ask if all was ok.  He asked me if I had gotten any weird emails, texts or phone calls.  Huh?  and he asked the same question again.  I asked from who and he said, well I don’t know.  Ok… slow down and walk me through this….

So backing up to the night before (Wednesday) we went to a friends house for dinner and to walk.  They have chickens and gave us some eggs.

Now I hate to admit this but I’ve never had farm fresh eggs that I’m aware of.  When people hear that it’s like I’ve committed a crime b/c I grew up on a farm and never had farm fresh eggs.  Well we had beef cattle, horses, at one time goats (sold them) and eventually sheep plus a llama, no chickens…

So of course I was all interested in their chickens… Aerielle took me to the chicken pen and her son told me all about them.  I asked him if he was going to run in with them and he told me sure, momma said no though… LOL.

So Pokey said that if we would come up with an incubator that he’d give us some eggs to hatch out, since we’d been wanting chickens anyway.  So after work yesterday the husband went and got an incubator.

But when he came home…. He came home to this sitting against our front door.

So back to the phone call, I was so confused he finally told me that there was a box left on our front door with a large ziplock bag.  On the outside it said Chicken Starter.  Did I know anything about this?

Um… no.  Then he proceeded to tell me we had 14 (not one or 2 or 5… nope 14) baby chicks inside this bankers box.  I didn’t know anything about this… Nope.

So I said well sounds like something my dad would do… or maybe Aerielle & Pokey…. Nope.  So then my friend Doti has been talking about getting a bunch of chicks lately, maybe she was playing a prank/joke on us.  Nope.  So we have no idea where these little Chicky’s came from… but aren’t they cute?

Here… here’s an up close look.

And this one so didn’t like my camera flash.  (our house is so dark, flash is the only way to go… especially at night)

If we have a rooster, I so want to name him Rooster Cogburn!

So I have no idea who delivered them so I have no idea who to thank…  But now we have an incubator for eggs & some baby chicky’s.

Luckily my mother in law had some chicken wire that she told us we could have so our chicken coupe is ready to go once these guys get to the right age/size!!

  1. hilarious that you thought it was me! and TOTALLY something that i would do! if you do happen to find out who your chicken fairy godparents are give them my address!

  2. I love baby chicks!!! I had chickens as pets as a kid… we loved getting the chicks and naming them. Mine was Lady Cluck and she used to love being pushed around the backyard in my pink baby buggy (serious- true story!) they were so much fun!!!

  3. Oh my! What a surpise to find!! Are they layer hens or broilers? We have a wack load of chickens here so if you ever have any questions ask away!

  4. AAAH!!! SOOOOOO incredibly cute!! And just before Easter too! We hatched chicks for a project in 4th grade. I remember they always used to poop in my hand, but they're still 1 of the cutest things ever.

  5. Well who might the chick fairy be? Hmmm? Very interesting! Anything baby is cute. But I can't stand chickens. Bad experience as a child. 😉

  6. They are SO SO cute!! That is so weird that they just got left there and y'all have no idea who. Kinda strange, but perfect timing!!

  7. Well, at least it wasn't a baby with a note attached, huh? So odd, but they sure are cute. Only thing is you don't know anything about them. It will be fun to see your “mystery chicks” grow up and see what they become!
