WHH Ranch Company

If there’s one thing you may know about my husband, he’s the spice king.  I swear, there aren’t many seasonings we don’t have, ok maybe that’s a bit of a stretch but we sure love our seasonings.

While we were down at the AQHA World Show in OKC we were walking around the trade show and Hubby and I got a bit separated.  Once I finally caught up to him he was here at this booth, WHH Ranch Company trying sauces.  I walked up and he had already picked out a few but told me to choose some also.

I wasn’t sure what to choose so the guy asked if I liked hot or mild.  My first response was mild.  He suggested I try this one.  He gave me a Tortilla chip with some cream cheese and this Cow Town Candy.  I can tell you it was yummy!  So then I was on a mission to try other ones.

So then he suggested trying this one.  I was a bit skeptical because I’m not a spicy person but he said I’d be surprised.  I figured I’d take a gamble.  Holy Yum.  We wound up with this one on my request.  It wasn’t very spicy at all.  Just enough of a kick to know it was in your mouth but not even enough to make you say, “Wowza.”

Now like I said, hubby and I got separated for a bit and by the time I caught up with him, he’d already picked out a few.  This was one of the sauces he chose, but I didn’t get to try this one

Now this one was more of a steak sauce, you know to be used on steaks and such :).  I didn’t try this one either, but it must have been good for hubs to choose it!  Especially because we don’t generally eat steak sauce on our steaks.

Then hubby bought one called Hot Dog Mustard.  Another one I didn’t try but he said it tasted just like a hot dog but it was mustard.  How cool is that!?!?  He wasn’t sure how they did it but it’s one he’s sure talked about since.

So I found their website, so now I know we can order this stuff when we run out!  Just thought I should share and tell you to take a gamble, so worth it 🙂  And like any cool place, they have a facebook site too so you should definitely check them out.

**Not a sponsored post, just saw something I liked and wanted to share**

On The Border – Oklahoma City, OK

One of these days I’ll quit talking about Oklahoma City and the AQHA World Show but today isn’t one of those days.  Getting close though, I promise!

After the Amateur Go-rounds we decided we were hungry.  It was about 1:30 or so, so we figured we’d have by passed the lunch crowd, but when we got there, we were on a small waiting list.  About 20 minutes later it was finally time to sit and eat.

Like most Mexican restaurants, they started us off with chips and salsa while we looked at our menu.

When asked if we’d like to start with an appetizer, we chose the Queso.  Hello yummy Cheese dip.

Cattleman’s Steakhouse Cafe – Oklahoma City, OK

I really think I almost need a label that is like television or something :).  You’ll see why in a bit…

Anyway Sunday before we headed out of town we finally made it to Stockyard City.  Pretty cool place from what I can tell, now I just really need to get back there and check it all out.  Seriously, of all the times I’ve been to Oklahoma City, it pretty much is passing through or going to the fairgrounds.  I’d like to see what more the city has to offer.

Anyway I was kind of feeling steak and so was everyone else so we headed off to Cattleman’s Steakhouse Cafe.  For the 2 o’clock hour on a Sunday afternoon there was a wait and the place was packed.  I guess that shows what kind of a reputation they have.

Please enter, won’t you?  I so want door handles like these!

Shorty Smalls – Oklahoma City

One thing I absolutely love about traveling is trying out places we don’t have around home.  Saturday night after we watched the Reining finals at the AQHA World Show, we were all hungry and tired.  Luckily only a couple miles from the fairgrounds are a ton of restaurants to eat at; the one we settled on was Shorty Smalls.

Now truthfully I kept asking about this restaurant because the name sounded vaguely familiar.  I’m still not sure but I think there used to be one in Springfield I ate at back in my teenage years for my cousins birthday.  Anyway that’s not the point of this post, the point of this post is… We ate at Shorty Smalls in OKC.  That’s what matters anyway right?  Feeding our bellies when we’re hungry… LOL :).

One thing I love about going in to restaurants like these are the cute shirts with the cute sayings/logos on them.  And look at their menu.  It looks like a newspaper.  Love it! (more…)

The AQHA World Show

Truthfully the last time I attended the adult AQHA World Show my dad said I was 5.  I don’t think that counts, at all!  So Tbug, Hubby and I got to experience this together.  We headed down there Friday night after work so that we could be there first thing Saturday morning.

When we got to the hotel, we were greeted by this sign.  Very cool!

The show started at 8am with the Amateur Go-rounds (non-professional!).  They take back 15+ ties to the finals.  You have 5 judges, the top and the bottom score are thrown out and the middle three give you the total.  180 is the lowest, 230 is the highest.

Sadly we ran out of time on Sunday to see the Amateur finals.  We did however get to watch the Junior Go-rounds along with some of the Senior Go-rounds before we had to head back.

All the countries that are represented at the AQHA World Show.

It’s seriously the judges trailer.  They enter the trailer, go up the stairs and then they have their seats.  The judges have the second best seat in the house.  The showman has the first!

Tbug has a horse charging her… lol.

During the breaks we ran across the way to the trade show buildings.  They actually had 2 trade show buildings set up.  All types of vendors from hat makers to boot companies to exercise equipment were set up.

Hey yo, we’re here :).  LOL.

And here’s my sexy cowboy!

I think Tbug had an extremely good time, or at least I hope she did!

Saturday night we went and watched the Reining Finals.

Holy cow, the horse that won, he should have won hands down.  He marked a 229.  Their scores are the same way as cutting.  The second place definitely gave the first a run for their money but didn’t quite get there.

So don’t you think every little girl needs to go to a horse show and get her make-up done?  I told you, there were tons of different vendors at the trade shows.

Random things I saw walking around the trade show.  Oh and my Coke.  Yup, I drank a large coke.  I don’t drink pop anymore really if you’re new around here, but I didn’t pass it up.  I was thirsty.  Anyway this gal had her rabbit on a leash.  Said it was her pet and said it weighed 28lbs.

Tbug “conned” grandpa out of a halter for her Aloha.  It was custom made, she picked all the colors and they made the halter right there.  Then they had a silent auction for “Reining Out Cancer”.  This was one of the hats that was up for grabs.  We’ll see if I win…  And hubby, he has like a Hoss Hat on (Hoss off of Bonanza).  Don’t worry, they shape them good!!!  or should it really be well.  Well anyway, they shaped this hat, don’t worry.

Ah, Oklahoma City.  I’m sure going to miss you.  Maybe next time I come I can actually leave the fair grounds and go explore you.  Out of all the times I’ve ever been to OKC, I’ve always been to the fairgrounds (sheep & horses) and never been out to explore the city.

And one of those gorgeous Oklahoma sunsets.

Oh hey, you should check out my guest blog on Kenzie’s blog today!  I’m telling people reasons not to follow me.  yup, you read that correctly 🙂

Tbug’s Favorite place – JL’s BBQ – Pryor, OK

Holy Cow this was a whirlwind of a weekend.  I’m here but I’m not sure I’m fully here!

A little over a month ago probably my dad sent an email with the AQHA World show schedule on it.  When I compared that with a calendar I noticed that it would be a Tbug weekend.  Plans were made and set and this last weekend, Mom, Dad, Tbug, hubby and I all set forth headed toward OKC for the AQHA World show.

Now back in April when we took Tbug with us down to Texas to pick Squirty back up from the breeders we went down 69 hwy through Oklahoma which puts you right through Pryor and Tbug got to experience JL’s BBQ.  From then on, the kid has been hooked.  That’s all it seems she talks about.  You say Pryor and she says JL’s.  She compares all other BBQ, especially ribs to JL’s.  I tell you, the kid is hooked!

Now, Pryor is by no means on the way from home to OKC, but who cares.  It wasn’t that far out of the road.

I seriously need Go Go Gadget Arms for photos like these!

The closer we got, the more excited she got. I’m not kidding either.  In fact,  her mom told me that she had mentioned JL’s quite a few times, especially this last week.

Arrowhead State Park

**D = Dad
**M = Me
**H = Hubby
M: Arrowhead State Park
D: That’s where Stan has his cabin
M: Oh, he comes all the way down here?
D: Yeah

M: And his step daughter lives down here?

D: Yeah her and her husband and son
H to D: You know you ought to see how to get your cows up there at Talbot. They have it fenced off and you can run cattle as long as it isn’t hunting season.
D: Yeah.
….. {a moment of silence}…..
M to H: Um… How did you get there?
H: What?
M: How’d you get there from Stan’s cabin?
H: I can’t hear anything… I thought he said cows and I wondered why he drove all the way down here only once a week to check on his cows.
D: Hey I was just going with it.
Yes we got a huge laugh about this…

And now some cute pictures of cows 🙂  No they aren’t Stan’s cows… they aren’t our cows either… they are a neighbor’s cows, I just loved the white cows on the green grass with yellow flowers & gray skies!

Afternoon Road Trip

I’m not going to lie, it surprises me how many people know who the Pioneer Woman is, but on the other hand, it surprises me how many people still have no clue who she is.

I started my blog before I knew who she was.  In fact I found out about Tasty Kitchen before I found out about PW’s actual blog.  Then sometime around late spring 2010 someone introduced me to her blog.  Like most {but not all, there are some haters out there} I fell in love and was hooked.

When her first cookbook came out I still didn’t know who she was until after all the book signings around here had been held.  Then she added a few additional ones and one of which was Stillwater, OK, 3 1/2 hrs from here.  Mom & I went :).

So now jump forward to March 2012 when her new cookbook came out.  Hubby actually pre-ordered mine last fall when he found out there would be a second book so it was at my house the day they released it.  Then I got on her website and saw this:

Tulsa
Thursday, March 29 @ 6:00 p.m.
Booksmart presents at Cain’s Ballroom
423 North Main Street
*Special presentation + book signing, live music, great food and drinks!
**via**

I immediately emailed hubs and told him and he’s like, well let’s go.  I was like hunny, it’s a work day and we have to work the next day and came up with all these excuses although deep down, I REALLY wanted to go.

So life went on and I actually forgot about the signing until Tuesday of last week {March 27th}.  I called him at work because we’d both actually  made other plans for that night and told him what we were going to miss.  I was a little bummed, but hey, life goes on.  Then he told me, If you want to go, ask off.  Well wouldn’t you know all my bosses were gone so I started flying emails to them (gotta love their email downloads to their phones!) asking if I could have the afternoon off.  They said yes!  Woohooooooo!

So last Thursday we headed to Tulsa.  Besides, it’s closer than Stillwater, just sayin :).

This is driving down the Will Rogers Turnpike (I-44) in Oklahoma.  Nicely dug fields and beautiful green everywhere!

I know my way around Tulsa fairly well, but had never been to Cain’s Ballroom.  All I could figure was it had to be downtown.  Before we left hubby told me to look up directions just in case our phone lead us astray.  Hey it’s been known to happen.  Instead wonderful mapquest tried to lead us astray, luckily we had our handy iPhones!  oy!

We got there around 3, but doors didn’t open until 5.  That’s ok, we stood in the hot sun (it was 83 degrees in March) and waited, I knew it would be a packed house.  We talked to a sweet lady from here in Tulsa & her hubby who didn’t want her having to go alone, a gal from just outside Tulsa who missed her night class for this, and a sweet couple who drove in from Dodge City, KS.  {side note: you’ll see my necklace in another photo straight on… yeah I have a cute tan line from that necklace :)}

Once the doors were open you could come in and purchase books if you didn’t have any, grab a chair {if there were any left}, got a signing letter {we were group A}, and find a place to park it {or stand}.  We got front row seats.  Heck yeah!

Tiffany Poe & the Platt College Culinary Institute catered the event.  You talk about yummy.  They were all recipes from her latest cookbook.

Whiskey-Mustard Meatballs pg 112
Beef Tenderloin Sliders {couldn’t find this one}
Fancy Mac & Cheese pg 132
Pots de Creme pg 244
Citrus Butter Cookies pg 236

They also had musical entertainment starting around 5:30 by a local Tulsa Band called Bandelier

Hubby got up to go throw something away and he left me text my mom & Stef & Doti.  I was a little excited!

It was packed!

This guy must have been with Booksmart?  He introduced the band and Pioneer Woman {yes I know her name is Ree Drummond}

And here she comes!

She’s just as nice and funny in person as she is on her blog & her TV Show.

She welcomed us and told us that she’d prepared a slideshow to go along with her talk so that hopefully we’d take our eyes off her.  She said she was sweating so bad and so nervous that she thought she got all the paper towels out from under her shirt, but if not and we saw one fall randomly, just don’t think anything about it.

About here is where she told us they even allowed her to have a clicker 🙂

She started off her talk by saying that she never assumes anyone knows who she is, for all she knew someone could have been driving by, heard the band and stopped in to see what was happening.

Her first slide said something about January 1969 I was born.  The second slide was a photo of her and she said, And I was a girl.  The next slide she said, and I’m still a girl. ha!

She said she wanted to bring Charlie, but he needed a bath because he got into something and stunk.  She even sang to him, on stage.

We were group A, but even though we were one of the first 15 through the door, people were butting in that had letters E, etc and so we got stuck at the back of the A group.  Oh well, we got to speak with a nice lady from Miami who was there with her mother.

As we finally got closer to the front of the line 2 hours later, we spotted Cowboy Josh and hubby told me I needed to get his autograph also so I went looking through the book for his picture.  I finally found one that would do so I marked the page.

Finally, there she is!

And I actually even remembered how to talk when I got up to her.  When we went to Stillwater I apparently lost my tongue.  Isn’t my hubby cute?  I know that’s random, but I love him and he is!

So then we walked over to Cowboy Josh and asked for his signature.  It was hilarious, he’s like sure, page 42.  I was like well if I’d have known it was that easy!  Then I asked if he’d be in a picture, he said as long as he didn’t have to put his beer down. ha!

Marlboro Man was there too, of course.  I swear, he signed just as many autographs as she did.  They needed to get him a table!

The picture of him in the new cookbook is much better than his picture in the last cookbook, just sayin!  I also took my MIL’s book with me and got them signed for her also.

After we got all of our signatures, we stopped and talked to the couple from Dodge City for a while and then headed for home.  I was exhausted!  We got home and to bed around 11:30 or midnight so not too bad, but try telling my body that when Friday morning rolled around.

How was it in college I was able to go to bed at 2am and get up for 8am classes and never miss a beat?

Hubby, Thank you so much for taking me/going with me/making me go!  You are the absolute bestestestestestestestestestestestestestestestestestestestestest!  Just sayin!

Jerry chello

Well, Hellllllllooooooo all my fine feathered friends… Lol 🙂

As you can tell, I’ve had posts posting, but I haven’t been by to see you in a short while… Things at work have been extremely CRAZY! and when I come home at night, I’m pooped!

I worked my butt off over the weekend and found out that 5:45am does in fact actually exist.  In fact I even took a photo of it to share with you so you knew I wasn’t crazy!

And in Southern Oklahoma, this is what mornings at 5:45am look like:

I spent both days doing a lot of this:

btw, I hate painting trim, with a passion!

The weather down there every day, 102ish.  My uncle said they’ve been over 100 degrees for at least 27 days now.  The ground down there looks horrid!

That’s the color of ALL the ground down there and many fire warnings are out

Look at crack in the ground, every fence was that way.

My uncle said a lot of the Texas cattle ranchers are having to sell cattle because there is no grass for them.  In fact at the NCHA Futurity held in December, they are worried about having enough cattle for the shows.  It’s a huge concern.  So I say we pray for rain here, let’s pray for rain for the dryer parts of the country, and let the wet parts of the country get a chance to dry up a bit!  (You know, after all the major flooding)

So then to add to all that excitement of the weekend, my sweetheart had an appointment Monday morning and he needed a driver.  I told him no problem and worked it out for a day of vacation.  All was going good until I got called for jury duty on no other than Monday.  I don’t mind reporting for jury duty but seriously, when I have actual plans like driving my husband to an appointment…. .  So my mom agreed to take him for me.  We got home at 10:30 Sunday night (after a long weekend of helping my aunt) and the trial had been cancelled so I was able to take him after all to his appointment.

He had to take some medicine to “numb” him 1 1/2 hrs before, and so sitting in the waiting room,

Oh I had a fun old time laughing my butt off at him.  The medicine made him loopy (hence needing a driver).  Along with watching Maury, Here are some of the cute sayings he was telling me:

Him: Jerry chello
Him: Frrrozen choc hotlet
Him: Shahihihiish
Him to me referring to himself: My bestestestest really good friend and might take offense to that husband guy (I posted a comment on his facebook page)
Him: My attn to detail has spiked
Him: There emergency lights are crooked,
Me: where are the emergency lights,
Him: hidden in the paintings, it’s like where’s Waldo
Him: My feets are asleet
Him: That picture is crooked
Him: I’m gonna be whiney tonight you’ll be tired of me
Him but no idea what he was talking about: Are you bull shipping me?
Him to me while I was looking out a window: Don’t check that old guy out, you’ll make him nervous
Him: You stuck me on the billboard right beneath the bus
Him: Give them a list of all the things wrong so that they can raise the customer level of there comforts
Concerned with lights out and that they weren’t evenly spaced “Aresemetrical”, (yes it’s misspelled b/c that’s what he said) to give the building a better flow
Him: It’d be really cool if they’d let me take my phone and beerphones back there so I could put them in my beers and listen to music
Him: Valuable collectronics
Him: Don’t does that to me
Him: (I put a post it on his shirt) You put a sticker on me, where’d you get a sticker
He eventually moved it to his forehead
Then he started singing about a snake named Roman
Him: Don’t forget to get Jerry’s Chello
Me: Are you going to play it?
Him: yup
This is what he told me they gave him to knock him out: Relapse-a-damn
(Our friend T’s birthday is Saturday, T said he wanted a card so PC was telling me all kinds of cards we could give T) Giving T “card” board with glue and chicken feed for his birthday
Me: Your losing your sticker,
Him: well put it down the front of my pants, it’ll stay there…
Me: Um how about I put it in your pocket,
Him: what if I drop my pocket?
Me: What if you drop your pants,
Him: stranger things have happened

Him to me while I was video’ing some of this: It’s no fair, I’m being taken advantage of and it doesn’t even feel good
In fact, the dental Hygienist came to call another patient in and got tickled at me because I was video’ing him at one point.
So now you are caught up on my life and going on’s… LOL 🙂 I promise I’ll get my google reader cleaned out!  It said this morning I had 336 new messages to read…. That’s ok!  I plan on going home and relaxing tonight!  I should have plenty of time to catch up!

Road Trip!!!

My aunt called us up a few weeks ago and said that PC and I needed to head their direction.  She wanted me to go sit with her at work and the hubs could “babysit” my uncle (haha my words not hers :))  Besides, she left some dishes at our house at Christmas time that needed to be delivered and my uncle bought some “train” horns for his truck so we saved him shipping on those too :), so we picked a weekend that we could and we loaded up and headed for their house.

This just happened to be the weekend we had free so Friday we left after work and made the trek to their house.  We made record time too and I set my cruise to the speed limit… no speeding for me.  Actually we stopped in Tulsa for dinner so I’m not sure exactly how many hours it took us to get there but still, we made good time for running the speed limit.  Why speed, it uses more fuel and my favorite thing is when people pass me flying and then I catch up to them driving the speed limit.  I think that’s flippin hilarious!  Sometime’s Karma is a b***h!!

Welcome to Oklahoma!

I didn’t get a whole lot of chances for photos on the drive down because I drove (by choice).  Then Saturday I spent the day with my aunt and hubby went with my uncle and his help to a horse show.  We didn’t know they were going to a horse show so hubby didn’t have a long sleeved button down shirt and cowboy hat so he had to sit in the bleachers all day.  But then Sunday morning he and my uncle got up at 6:30am (no thank you) and went to EE Ranches to get my uncle’s mare tested to see when she’d be ready to breed.

I woke up around 8 and chatted with my aunt waiting on the boys to get back.  They got back around 8:30 and I got dressed and hubs and I headed for home.

I’ve always heard people talk about Bricktown in Oklahoma City so we decided to swing in there, look around and grab a bite to eat before hitting the highway.  Being Sunday, that may have had something to do with it, but I wasn’t totally impressed.  I do think that we’d have better luck if we had more time to gander, but we didn’t.

OKC was hidden in the clouds (fog)

We finally decided to eat at Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar & Grill.  Dang try figuring out how to get into this parking lot.  It was nuts!

I thought this was awesome!  They should have had it for Veterans too though, they were soldiers at one time!!

I’m getting the evil eye….

See there’s that Karma again!

Look at the Disco Saddle!  There were 2 in the restaurant that we found.

Have to wait, sit on a truck tail gate!!

This was standing in Toby Keith’s Parking lot

But we had to get home for Sunday dinner (with our friends) so we headed out!!
And we crossed over the Oklahoma River.
Here was the dam.  One side was full, and this side, notsomuch!
Then we got into Tulsa and crossed the Arkansas River.

It was fairly low too, but they keep it that way usually.

About this time we were sick of being in the car.  We got stuck in road construction with no movement going through Tulsa.

Downstream Casino… it’s right in the corner, parts of it are in Oklahoma, Kansas & Missouri.  See I told you it was right in the corner!

ah Missouri, you never looked so…. gray, sad, cold, pretty

We finally made it home in time to start a fire (it was chilly!) and throw together a dip to take to Sunday night dinner and we were out the door again.

Oh well, isn’t that what SHORT road trips are all about?
