The Chiefs Tailgating Bus

How in the world did we get to the end of December? My husband and I were just discussing how in the heck did we just celebrate Christmas and now we’re looking forward to the New Year… It is like time is totally flying by! And here in Missouri (as well as other parts of the country I hear) we’re having the worst flood we’ve had since 1993. Weather predictions call for another 1-2 inches of rain today. We’ve already had quite a bit. I didn’t/haven’t heard the total amount yet…

But anyway, I just wanted to share with you what we’ve been up to… It all started about 5 months ago. Actually, truth be told it started about 2 years ago. As I’ve mentioned, Dan and Grady are Red Coaters for the Kansas City Chiefs (by the way, did you hear they won against the Cleveland Browns yesterday 17 to 13… which means they’re in the Playoffs! Big year for Kansas City… The Royals and the Chiefs both making the Playoffs in one year!). At some point Dan and Grady started talking about buying a bus to turn into a Chiefs Tailgating bus.

Now jump forward to about 5 months ago. I wasn’t there to totally hear the story so we’ll let the hubs take over the story….

We were giving her [Deb] a hard time about wanting a Chiefs bus (which is a pretty common occurrence). She finally got tired of it and said, I’ll tell you what… You can get a Chiefs bus if…..

And hubby caught it on tape. Blackmail city… So the hunt was on to find a Chiefs bus. They searched Craig’s List and multiple auctions on Purplewave.com. So jump forward about 4ish to 5 months… and Karen and I were sitting at the dive shop one day chatting when all the sudden we heard the loudest screams you’ve ever heard. We wondered what the heck happened. Turns out, they bought a Chiefs Bus.

Some days we need our heads examined

Some days I think we need our sanity checked! Yesterday was one of those days! The alarm went off at 4:30am. Yes, you read that correctly. Don’t worry, I didn’t get out of bed until 5. And that was funny in itself because I asked hubs what time it was and he said, “I know you are but you need to get up.” He thought I said I was tired….

Yesterday was a home Chiefs game.

Another fun story, the night before Grady called and asked if we knew anyone that would like to go to a Chiefs game because they had an extra ticket. We called Memaw and asked her if she’d like to go to a Chiefs game. She said, Well I’ve never been to a baseball game so it sounds like fun. We all died laughing and said, well after tomorrow (meaning yesterday) you still won’t have gone to a baseball game. She meant to say football and accidentally said baseball. We teased her all day. Woops!

Anyway, back to yesterday morning… This is what a lot of our drive looked like. And once it started lighting up… it started raining. And boy was it ever so cold!

We rode up with Jared and met up with the other clan at IHOP in Belton, then piled in to their vehicles and headed on to the Chief’s stadium. Jared was picking on SW. Either that, or it was snowing in IHOP

And as we all know I take pictures of food… Jared ordered this… Chicken fried steak, eggs over easy and hashbrowns.

Buzz’s BBQ – Nevada, MO (plus hotel & Chiefs game)

I ate BBQ two days in a row. That never happens! But Saturday night we were headed toward Kansas City for the Chiefs game the next day and decided to stop for dinner in Nevada at Buzz’s BBQ.

There were 9 of us so we had to wait a few minutes to get a table. I took the opportunity to take pictures of some of the decor… and you know, freak out the people I was with. ha! At one point they thought I was taking a picture out the window, instead I took the picture above. haha. What can I say….

Thurday night Chiefs Game vs Denver Broncos

It’s Monday, already? Can I please have a weekend to recover from my weekend, or even just a day. I’m so worn out!

Before I write a post on my weekend though, let’s write up a post that started the tiredness… the CHIEFS 1st Home Game!

Not that I’m complaining, but I’m complaining a little bit, can we please just have games on Sunday’s at noon. That way no late nights. haha… let’s see if they listen to my plea (which I know the answer… I’m okay with them ignoring it).

Normally we wouldn’t attend a night game like this, but this was an exception… 1st Home game of the season + it was against the Denver Broncos. Do you blame us for going?

Normally we have a large tailgating spread, but this time, since it was a Thursday night and the first home game, which also makes the Red Coater’s help Paint the town red, it was a long night so Dan and Grady said they’d take care of it. Dan wanted me to point out that this is how he and Grady cook.

KC Chiefs Recap vs Seattle Seahawks

I sooooo have to do this post just for my friends that are Seattle Seachicken Seahawk Fans :). You will be interested to know there are Seahawk fans in the greater KC area that came to the game so yey :).

I also think that we all have a screw loose for going to this game in 20 degree weather… what were we thinking? Oh wait, we were thinking FUN! (I’m not a cold weather person… lol). You will notice this is the temperature we experienced at 1:35pm… I’m not sure I want to know what it was at 6:30am when we got up. Don’t worry, baby girl stayed home in the warm house with grandma and grandpa! She was the smart one… lol :).

We got up Sunday morning and got dressed. While I was getting dressed I stuck my hand in my pocket because there was a lump and I found one of baby girls socks. ha!

This was a noon game so tailgating started around 8am. Our food for this game was Ham and Potato Soup and Chili. At least it was warm food 🙂

We put a pot of water on the heater to warm water for hot chocolate. It’s Deb’s special mix… btw, she wasn’t with us. She chose to stay home. Probably smart! Hey I couldn’t feel my feet most of the day. We put those hand warmer things that are made for feet on our feet around 10:30am and mine finally started working once we were in the truck headed home around Lamar (which is like 2 hrs from KC or something like that…)

mmmmm Ham and potato soup. (Recipe coming soon!)

I love Nancy’s boots. Aren’t they cute?

The night before Dan and hubby went to Academy and got me this hat. I’m soooooooooooo glad they did because even though my head was cool, it could have been soooooooo much worse!

Tbug got to go to this game with us. We asked her after the game if she was glad she went or if she’d have rather stayed home… she assured us she was glad she got to go.

KC really missed the snow that was predicted but we still had a small amount on our seats anyway. I sat in it, but not with my jeans… nope… we sat in sleeping bags to help with heat. Hubby used blankets and decided that sleeping bags were the way to go. (Tbug and I had the sleeping bags). Yeah you’re standing on the concrete in sleeping bags so don’t use good ones, we got these for $9. But you aren’t constantly having to readjust your blankets around you from all the up and down.

This was the Chiefs Veterans Day game. This flag was friggin awesome! The Marine Corp choir sang the National Anthem. The arrowhead flag was replaced with this one, but that’s okay!

She swears she’s glad she went but she looked like she was ready for -40˚ weather. She said the only thing cold on her was her nose/face and her toes. Not to bad huh?

Hiya!

It apparently snowed back home on Sunday. We drove home with clear roads and hit the snow around Nevada. We got somewhere around 3″.

And the game…. OH goodness the game was an edge of your seat game which really are the best. KC won 24-20 over the Seahawks.

Go Chiefs!!

Oh Kansas City Chiefs you did not disappoint again this weekend! Such a great game. And the best part was this was Tbug’s first stadium game so she got to see a win! Score!!

Thank God for a happy morning baby because this momma bear isn’t so happy in the morning, but baby girl smiles and I break into a smile too. She was sporting her KC Chiefs stuff and was ready for the game.

Earl, Moo and TB went to the game as well so we all rode up together in Earl’s Pathfinder. Hey it seats 7 and we had all 7 seats full :). Earl had balloons in her car for some reason. Hubby and the kids were picking on poor Baby girl and me rubbing them and sticking them in our hair.

Eventually 2 of the balloons wound up on the dash and pretty much rode the whole trip there. It was so great on the drive up passing people and seeing all the Chiefs jerseys and sweatshirts and stuff on the cars. We had to sport too, although we were all dressed in our Chiefs get up!

Normally we tailgate but because of the Chili cook-off the night before, we chose to meet up at 6:30 and drive up the morning of the game (it was a noon game) and eat dinner in Peculiar, MO at the Flying J Denney’s.

From there we got separated because we had to make a quick trip to Walmart. Dan told us to park in Lot 6 (I think…) and we wound up in the wrong parking lot and walked all the way to the stadium from BFE, seriously. I felt like I was running because I was carrying baby girl and trying to keep up with everyone. whew! I got my work-out! We finally met up with everyone in our normal tailgating spot.

Last year when hubby and I went to our first game they had a huge get up set up in front of the stadium so we took Tbug over to see if all that was set up, sadly, it was not. So we went into the Pro Store. Holy Cow, don’t go in there at 1 hour to kick-off, it’s a mad house. So we went ahead and went on up to our seats.

This little one didn’t sleep through the whole game this time. She played with daddy 1st quarter, watched the game from my lap second quarter, ate during 3rd quarter and halfway through 3rd went to sleep and slept through 4th. We’re making progress.

Now we didn’t realize how far we parked away from the stadium until we decided to walk back to the car afterwards. Luckily the golf cart came to our rescue and drove us to the car. Wow, we were way out there!

Baby girl’s first golf cart ride.

She says she enjoyed the game. The final score, 24 Chiefs 10 Jets. Go Chiefs!

On the way home, we stopped in Harrisonville to feed all of us. We chose Pizza Hut. They never claimed it but I think they forgot to make our pizza and then they made the wrong one. Woops. Oh well we finally got our Chicken Bacon Ranch (Tbug picked it) and it was awesome!

With the time change it was a lovely night drive home. It was only like 6:30 in this picture.

Someone was exhausted when we got home.

Your KC Chiefs Recap Post!

This last Sunday hubby, baby girl and I were able to attend the Kansas City Chiefs game versus the St. Louis Rams. OMG what a game! Definitely worth going to that’s for sure… not just because the Chiefs won, #winner but it was one heck of a game!

So the game started at noon which meant we had to be there in time for the gates to open, duh :). Tailgating is a big thing, however I want to state that we’re not drinkers so if you want to see drunk pictures you’re not at the right blog for that. Gates started opening either at 7:30 or 8am… I can’t remember as I was up at 4am trying to get around so we’d be ready to catch our ride. To say I was tired would be a bit of an understatement but it’s all good!

We went with Breakfast Burritos for the tailgating food. We had Bacon, Sausage, Plain eggs, Eggs with onions and green chilies, Black Olives, Salsa, Cheese, Tortillas, and Blueberry Muffins! Holy yum!

Now as you know the KC Royals are fighting for the World Series title currently (tonight is the last game, Go Royals!).

Why I Don’t Push Carts

If you knew me, you’d know I HATE pushing carts with a passion. I have no idea what my deal is against them but… I guess because I don’t like to push them, I kind of suck at pushing them. Let me explain…

Saturday hubby and I had plans to go to Kansas City to a Chiefs preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings (which they lost big time… no hard feelings… maybe). We were going up with a group that we dive with and they wanted to go up early to tailgate. We were told to bring chips and condiments so Saturday morning we woke up and went to Walmart to pick out chips and get some water and cherry coke/orange sodas (yeah we party hard!).

We picked up our purchases and went to the cash register to pay and then leave. Well we had baby girls carseat sitting where the babies/kids sit. I got behind the cart to push it out the doors and head to the truck and lets say I misjudged the distance and ran the cart right into the door. If that wasn’t embarrassing enough, it jacked it open. Seriously? Hubby hasn’t let me live that down since… oy!

So anyway I’ll leave you with that thought and these photos from the Chiefs Game. Enjoy!

We got this type and the Ginger Wasabi. I wanted to try the Bacon Mac & Cheese but they were all sold out. I’m not sure about the Cappuccino… have you tried any of them? Thoughts?

Holy cow, can you believe what a year will do? Check this out… baby girl was here a year ago, no one but hubby and I knew though!

We have to protect her ears! She slept through the whole game except when she was hungry.

and one last story… I went to change her at the end of the game for our ride home. I went to go into the family restroom and walked in on a lady. If that was you, I’m sooooo sorry! I was really on my game Saturday!

The Red Coaters Are Coming!

I promise I’m not Paul Revere, although if I were, I would be famous and then have a chance to get on Dancing with the Stars, but that’s another post for another day, right?  Just know, I’m not famous and I probably never will get my Dancing with the Stars debut chance, but don’t worry, I’m not totally giving up on that dream!

Anyway back to regularly scheduled broadcasting!  On Sunday of this last weekend, hubby and I were invited to attend a Kansas City Chief’s football game at Arrowhead Stadium with some friends.  The day before we saw Wicked and had plans to stay the night in Kansas City anyway, my parents took us over by Arrowhead stadium where we met up with the scuba gang.  Gates opened at 10am so we stood around and chatted a bit before they allowed entry into the stadium parking area for tailgating.  D the Man heard that they were going to open gates a half hour early so we all piled in the vehicles and were sitting, waiting for gates to open right at 9:30.

Then it was a race to our parking spots to get all set up.  Once we were set up, D the Man took hubby and me around showing us the different areas of the stadium.  I had been to a Chiefs game one time back in 2004 but this was a new stadium so D the Man told me (I can’t remember) and hubby had never had the chance to go before.

We saw all the hot tailgating areas and saw a lot of interesting vehicles decked out for tailgating.  The hearse even had a casket in it with a bar-b-q grill.  How friggin awesome!  Totally impressed.  Soooooo should have gotten a photo, but didn’t sadly.

This is War Pony.  The gal and War Pony ride out onto the field when the game first starts and then any touch down the Chief’s make, War Pony gallops across the stadium field.

While we were walking around some of the different radio and TV stations in KC were set up with fun little games.  We got to do bean bag football where hubby won a coozie.  Then we got to play plinko where hubby and I both won coozies.

There was a boot set up where we could choose between 4 backgrounds and have our photos taken.  D the Man wanted his photo here because he’s actually standing in that background photo holding one of the flags.  He’s a Read Coater.  I’ve been told the KC Chiefs are the only ones who have a group like this.

You might be asking what a Red Coater is, well get ready to be wowed. The Kansas City Chief Red Coaters is a community-service based organization that for 50 years has served the city, surrounding communities, the region and of course the KC Chiefs.  They also get to be on the field to express their support on game day by holding flags as the Chief players enter the field at Arrowhead Stadium.

Hubby and I also chose to have a photo with KC Wolf.  Don’t worry, it’s super imposed as well, sadly!

We chose to make Chicken Salad for our tailgating meal.  YUM!  oh and we had grapes too.  Have I ever told you, the baby grapes are my favorite!

Once we were finished eating, we cleaned everything up, loaded it all back in the vehicles and of course got a shot of hubby and me with Arrowhead stadium in the background and then it was time to head in for the game.  So one really funny thing, as we were heading into the stadium, one of the workers admitted to us that she didn’t know that the Chiefs were NFL, she thought they were a college team.  Not making fun, just remembering!

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month and if you around football, you’ll actually see players sporting pink shoes in honor.  The Chiefs have a hall of fame area set up and I noticed this display case right in the middle of it.  Super cool!

Finally it was time to head up to our seats.  Game kick off was at 3:25.

As they were getting ready to start introducing the starting line-up, the Red Coaters headed down to the field.  They hold flags that the football players run past as they are being announced.

I am pleased to report that KC came into the game 6-0 and they left the game 7-0.  They won 17 to 16 against the Houston Texans.  Rock on!

And just for your viewing pleasure, I took video too :).  It’s less than 5 minutes 🙂
