Writing

Here we are, another day, but still in the month of May. You know, some days I sing whatever I’m saying. Sometimes it is to a real tune, and other days I make up my own tune. I guess it is whatever strikes me at that moment in time. Other days, I rhyme. Man, when I start rhyming, I tend to say random stuff because, honestly, you can’t always rhyme what you’re really trying to say. When I start the rhyming thing, my daughter and/or niece usually roll their eyes at me. I just look at it as keeping things interesting.

The more I think about it, I think I learned some of these “characteristics” from my dad. He would do things like that to me growing up. Trust me, if my friends were there, we rolled our eyes just like my daughter and my niece do to me now. But it was fun, lighthearted, and kept things interesting.

The other day, I was texting one of these said friends, and she commented that I needed to write a poem like I did when we were kids. I can’t even remember what we decided the poem needed to be about, it was just the simple fact that I needed to write a poem about it. My dad once told me that when he was in school (can’t remember what grade), his teacher would assign the whole class a new paper every Friday due the following Monday. He said, sometimes it was difficult, but it caused him to become a good writer. Truth be told, the poems we wrote as kids, my dad usually helped me out on when I got stuck. (more…)

I’m Here

I’ve been here many times to write a post. I love looking back at these posts and seeing what happened, how I felt, etc. This morning, I decided I wish we were all back in the day of writing. Maybe we should blame some of that on the fact that I have a degree in Technical and Professional WRITING. See that word? That word that is in all caps, bolded, and italicized? It’s the word that says… writing.

Wow, a lot has changed since I started this blog. But I’ll let you in on a little secret… a lot has changed in the past year. And we’re only 5 months into this year. It’s been quite the whirlwind, and I just don’t even think I have the words. I love to write. I love to talk. I am shy (sometimes), but gosh words are eluding me right now. I wish I could get the words out. I wish they would come from somewhere, but right now I am just going day to day, one foot in front of the other.

Talking to a friend yesterday, she pointed out what I kind of already knew and just chose not to think about, and that is the fact that my 40s haven’t been playing nice. Truthfully, if I think back on it, my 30s were a little bit rude when I first started them, but I ended on a fairly high note. (more…)

Dust off the Cobwebs

Wow, it’s been a hot minute since I was here last. Looks like October 7th of 2021. I’m trying to decide if I even remember how to do this quite honestly. A lot has happened since then, we’ve now been around the sun 3 times plus a few days/months. The world started slowly moving away from Covid… although I’m not sure about that one some days. We’ve been through an election, weird weather all across the US and the world, We had Totality (the solar eclipse), quite honestly I could keep on and on… but I won’t. If you’re here, that means you lived through most of it too, not to mention the random little idiocracies we all deal with individually. (more…)

Pancho Villa

Do you ever have those open mouth insert foot moments? Gosh, I do… ALL. THE. TIME. It’s quite sad really.

So the most recent happened at a Mexican restaurant in town. They probably think I’m quite interesting anyway… so whatever. I’ll just go with it.

One of the guys that works there has some MAJOR artistic talent. I seriously should take pics of some of his work because WOW! He just happened to be our server that night. So my little looked at the wall next to us and pointed at a framed picture on the wall and asked if it was a real person. I laughed and said, Of course, it is, but who, I don’t know. (more…)

#BlogJune 2018

I do have thing to say. I am worried sometimes to write them/publish them. So some days I keep quiet. Other days I don’t. Guess we’ll never know what I keep quiet and what I don’t… lol.

But here we are at the end of another month. Man, this year is just flying by, but it usually does. I can’t believe my baby just turned 4. 4-years-old… Holy cow! Wasn’t I just wadling around in the heat complaining that I now know what it’s like to have cankles instead of ankles? By the way, I did get my ankles back :).

I heard that having ankles is good and bad. Bad because they could potentially break/sprain easier. But that’s more useless information that I heard once upon a time that you probably don’t care about so let’s look at the results from this past month instead. You’re welcome 🙂 (more…)

#BlogApril

Hi! So I didn’t do #BlogMarch. I guess I forgot. That’s okay… This is mainly done for just me. Although, it’s a great way for you to see what blog posts you missed. You’re welcome. I’m also debating redoing my Cook with Me page because… it’s a pain in the butt. Grrr… Don’t ask. I guess blog work is never done.

So here’s a funny… I just forgot what I was going to type. Funny, right? haha. Oh… This thing says I write in too much passive voice. The thing is… that’s something I got “in trouble” for in Grad School. You’d think I’d learn not to write in Passive voice but apparently not. ha! Let’s not focus on my passive voice… instead, let’s move on to the top blog posts of April 2018.

Daylight Savings Time

I’m sitting here being grumpy about Daylight Savings Time. Probably not for the same reason as most people though… My annoyance is from all the people whining and crying and complaining that oh dear, we moved an hour of daylight to the evening. Oh heaven forbid. I get so darn annoyed this time of year. The funny thing is they don’t complain when it’s lighter in the evenings. No, everyone seems to thoroughly enjoy it, but that still doesn’t seem to make them quit complaining.

In the fall when they get that hour of sleep back, well they still moan and groan and complain. Oh no, we don’t have that extra daylight and the evening gets dark so fast. I just want to point out that they are probably the ones who complained in March that they got that extra daylight at the end of the day.

I was told that one time they tried to stay on daylight savings time all year round. That didn’t work. The mornings were way to dark for school age kids. That’s also one complaint that people have when we have daylight savings time kick in. I guess I just get grumpy from all the complaining.

I’m not a morning person. I never have been and that first day sucks… maybe even that first week… but I say… shit happens… move on. I get up and go. I almost avoid Facebook right around then because everyone has an opinion and they are complaining about something. I kind of hate social media most days because of that. I’m glad we all have opinions! I truly am. So now I’m complaining about people complaining. You’re welcome.

I guess I’ll shut up and go enjoy my extra evening light hours. Btw, we don’t technically get more sun during the 24 hour period (other than we are gaining because we’re headed toward the summer solstice), it just shifts :). And while people say that it is an outdated practice… Only 2% of the population are ranchers and farmers… that’s still 3.2 million people affected by that roughly. Just food for thought. Enjoy your Sunday!
