A Place I Would Live, But Never Visited | Blogging 30

*Via*

I’ve thought and thought and thought about how I would answer this. I finally came up with my answer:

Greece

I know that there was a revolt and uprising recently (within the past years) which kind of makes it a little bit of an unsafe place… But, here’s the deal… My great grandpa came to this country from Greece. My Grandma was half Greek. I’m quite removed, but I’d absolutely love to learn about that side of me. And those views. All photos I’ve seen are always of a similar view. I know not all of the country has this gorgeous of a view, but seriously.

10 Interesting Facts About Me | Blogging 30

How many times have I shared facts about myself…. seriously? Like is there anything about myself I could tell you that you don’t already know? Hmmm…. I guess I’ll approach it this way…..

10 Interesting Facts About Me: The Anniversary Edition

  1. My husband and I were both 27 when we got married.
  2. I knew I wanted to get married in the church my parents got married in. It just so happened to be the church I was a member of. It almost didn’t happen, but in the end, it did.
  3. I’m not sure anything will top our 1st Anniversary…. 1 Week in Hawaii.
  4. We honeymooned in Chicago. While people questioned us, it was actually a lot of fun! We ate our way around the city, no joke.
  5. This year, we spent our 7th Anniversary in the Hayfield. Stories to come! (more…)

My First Love & My First Kiss | Blogging 30

Oooh… should I be discussing my First Love and my First Kiss on the eve of my anniversary? Just wondering for a friend….

Ok, we’ll, address the first kiss first.

So… this is a fact I could use for tomorrow’s post… I was sweet 16 and never kissed. I really thought that was cool until I became that 16 years old who had never had a boyfriend nor had a kiss and then I just felt like a loser. So as a Junior who had never had a boyfriend or been kissed… I got set up on a blind date to football homecoming with a friend’s boyfriend’s friend. In fact, I think it might have been his cousin…

I didn’t know this guy. He was a year younger. I don’t even have a clue what his name is/was. Don’t worry, I did know at the time!

So… we maybe danced twice. He wasn’t interested in dancing I guess and I was shy. Like extremely shy.

Your Earliest Memory | Blogging 30

Oh heck, my earliest memory? I have a lot of memories and to know which one is the earliest is a bit difficult. So let’s go with this one since we’ve been recently helping my parents renovate their deck.

When I was about 5-6 years old, my dad was building a new horse barn. We had a hay barn that we had makeshift stalls in for the horses, but he wanted something a little more permanent. So that’s when we (by we I mean mom and/or dad) got the idea to make a permanent horse barn. It either had 4 or 5 stalls plus a tack room. As a kid, I was always outside. I remember walking out to the barn area looking for my dad who I knew was out there. When I walked around the corner of the new barn I saw him on a ladder, hanging on trying not to fall. The ladder had shifted on him and the only thing keeping him from falling on the ground was he was holding himself and the ladder up. It’s hard to describe…

I just looked at him and said, What are you doing? I don’t think he’d ever been so happy in his life to see someone. He immediately yelled at me to go get my mom. She came out and helped him down. But I just remember looking up and saying, “What are you doing?” very innocently.

Five Problems with Social Media | Blogging 30

I think at one point or another we’re all addicted to social media. And while there are good things about social media… there are bad things too! Yikes!

5 Problems with Social Media

  1. You lose personal touch with friends. You’re so busy trying to keep up with the Jones’ for lack of better explanation that you spend all your time in social media land instead of actually communicating with your friends verbally. Everyone wants lots of followers and at times they are just meaningless relationships. You lose out on your physical relationships.
  2. People get cocky behind a computer screen. They’ll type anything they want, especially anonymously without fear of consequences. People get flat out rude on social media. I’m not sure they would say those things to a person’s face.
  3. There are so many platforms for different social media that you have to learn this one only to learn a new one to eventually learn a new one. And while you should spend your time learning something new every day… don’t you think there are better things you could learn?
  4. They are addicting. And on top of that… they are a total waste of time. Geez.
  5. They make you feel inadequate. You spend all your time comparing yourself to other people and feeling sorry for yourself. These are just snippets of people’s lives. You have no idea what their actual life is like.

There are a lot of good reasons and things that come from social media, but there is a lot of bad too. I guess just weigh the pros and cons and go for it.

Blogging 30

I can’t help myself… I feel the need, the want, the drive, to blog. I think we all go through dry spells. Those moments when we aren’t sure we have anything to say, or we’re not sure if we like what we do have to say.

A couple years ago a friend posted this challenge on Facebook. I saved it. I don’t get credit for it… but I’m going to take the 30 day writing challenge.

I’ll post the topics here. If you want to join in, please by all means do. And if you join in, DEFINITELY let me know so I can come read your posts. I’d love to see your ideas for these topics!

Technology Hates Me

These last few days have been extremely stressful. I’m ready to crawl in a hole and not come back for a while. Ugh! So my iCloud account was shut down because apparently it had been hacked. I had to change my password. Once I did, I run a Mac and had to update everything on my laptop as well…. BUT… there’s always a but… it’s not working totally right. Oh… and I can’t remember what I changed my password to.

So then let’s move on to this blog. I’ve been trying to move it over to WordPress. Yes I jumped on the WordPress bandwagon, or at least I have tried. {beats head on wall} It’s a nice thought… but the stupid program won’t import my previous blog. I’ve been trying for 2 weeks. I keep getting error messages.

I went on line trying to find help. All it sent me to was forums that didn’t help. So I tried to contact them. Well even though I have a WordPress account, I can’t figure out how to log in to anything but my wordpress site and so I can’t contact WordPress people because they don’t believe I have an account. Either A) they want me to start one, which I already have or B) use the forums which don’t help.

So I googled contact WordPress and wound up on some 24/7 WordPress help site. They got my password and login information for both Blogger and WordPress and logged in. Then said they could help me. I said great and that’s when they said, but it’ll cost you. Wait what? If you knew it was going to cost me, why the hell did you get my login information. sigh! And it shows that they are located in California but the people helping me were from India.

I hate technology. I can just hand move 2200 posts over if I wanted… but then A) that takes a lot of time. B) I lose all comments from everyone. Etc. I’m so frustrated.

Then add trying to find a job. Technology hates me right now. Kind of like the stoplights. I swear, if I go through a stoplight I’ll hit it on red no matter what. Anyway, I want to cry now… but it won’t do any good so I guess I’ll get back to something… I’m not really sure what. Wish me luck!

Failure

Failure is a hard thing to really define because it has many different meanings to many different people. You could have failed a test, a class, or feel like you’re failing life and each one of those things is measured by different terms. So what is failure? If you ask the dictionary, the overall broad answer is, Failure is the lack of success. haha… okay so what does that mean?

Do I really have a definition, no? I don’t. I wish I did. Most days I feel like a failure. A Failure as a mother, wife, daughter, etc. It’s so easy to be our own worst critics. It’s so easy to plug in everything we did wrong and dwell on that fact. When you do that you have a tendency to make yourself feel even worse about a situation.

The state of the world is difficult and hard. It even has a tendency to wear on a person. I used to be the biggest optimist about everything. Almost to the point of being an annoying optimist. These days I fall more on the pessimistic side of life. I try not to and my New Year’s Resolution was to be happier. That’s something I work on everyday.

No, I’m not depressed. I just feel like I’m having a midlife crisis and hopefully, I’m not at midlife. I’m not sure where I fall in, I’m not sure what comes next. It’s weird to look back and see how things unfolded. It’s sometimes hard to let go of the past. It’s sometimes hard to not wish you’d have done things differently. The thing is… if you did them differently you may not be where you are today. That could be a good thing or it could be a bad thing.

I guess the point of this post is…. Don’t let a failure define you. Learn from it. Overcome it. Do better. Move on. Leave the past in the past. Let Success be your definition. Now excuse me while I go look in the mirror and tell myself that!

National Tortilla Chip Day {February 24}

Today is National Tortilla Chip day. How much fun is that? Tortilla chips are made from corn (or flour but predominately corn) tortillas, cut into triangles or circles or any other shape you want, then deep fried (or baked) and wallah… you have a snack. Typically they are either eaten plain or served with dips, but they are also great for making nachos or a taco salad.

Typically corn tortillas are made from corn, vegetable oil, salt, and water, but obviously each recipe maker has their own unique recipe that makes them taste just like they want. Variations include yellow corn, white corn, blue corn, and even red corn. Each of those corns give the tortilla chips their own unique flavor.

Usually Tortilla chips are associated with Mexican food, but the mass production of them is credited back to the 1940s and Los Angeles California.

These snacks have become so popular that they are usually a complimentary appetizer at Tex-Mex and Mexican restaurants.

So with that said, and the knowledge that it is National Tortilla Chip Day… Go out and grab a tortilla chip! Top it with topping of your choice and you’ll be set!

Black Rifle Coffee Company

Up until a few years ago, I wasn’t a coffee drinker. In fact, it didn’t happen until like 2011 or something when Mark and I went on the Showboat Branson Belle and it was complimentary with dinner so I decided to try it. Mark looked at me like I grew a horn out of my head and after I said, hey that’s not bad, he tried it. We both converted to the “dark” side. Pun intended :). haha

So now jump forward to 2016. Are we avid coffee drinkers? No, but we do like the occasional cup of Jo.. wonder where that term came from anyway. Maybe some research on my part is required. Anyway, somehow Mark came across this company that is a veteran owned called Black Rifle Coffee Company that is based out of Salt Lake City, Utah. He never told me how he came across it, but that doesn’t really matter. What matters is, he found it. And I mentioned it is Veteran Owned… well note on the package that 5% of the profits go toward veteran organizations. Bam!
