Bandaid’s Hurt

Did you know band aids hurt? Is it Bandaid or is it Band aid? I’m not really sure… If you ask spell check it says 2 words but it doesn’t always know best.

After going to the ER and being diagnosed with Influenza B, Abug was put on medicine to make her get better. The ER’s recommendations were to do a follow up with the primary care physician. Sadly we don’t have one right now. The reason being, ours quit practicing in July 2016. I’ve taken her back to the doctor’s office where our pediatric doctor was last December when she was really sick and exposed to pneumonia but otherwise, we just haven’t found a primary care doctor yet.

After a week of not getting better and still running fevers, I decided to call the doctors office and see if they could have either one of the doctors or the nurse practitioner get her in just to make sure either A) the ER didn’t miss something or B) she was getting better or whatever was causing this. It was all very frustrating.

The nurse practitioner was able to get her in and check her out. After running some tests, they determined she had an ear infection, which they said is pretty common in young children. Their nose to ear ratio is very short and with excessive snot build up from the flu it can cause bacteria to grow in the ear and bam, ear infection.

Finally, an easy fix. They put her on some pink medicine. So after a week of all of this, the 2 things she complained about was the pink medicine, but more so that darn bandaid at the ER they used after pulling out the IV they hooked her up to.

Words elude me for a title

My blog has served as many different outlets throughout it’s 7 and 1/2 year existence. It has been a place to vent, a place to share, a place to remember. And some things I share I want to remember where other things I don’t really know if I do, but I do at the same time if that makes sense.

Yesterday was one of those latter moments.

Let’s start Monday night. The dishwasher isn’t working, so I went to handwashing all the dishes that were in the sink plus the dishwasher. My baby came in and said she was tired and didn’t feel good. It was 7:30ish so that’s kind of normal, the I’m tired speech. I told her to give me a few more minutes and we’d go take a shower and go to bed. She went in and laid down on the floor in front of the couch, not normal for her so we got her up on the couch, at least a little softer. A little after 8pm I got finished with dishes and I took her upstairs for a shower.

When I pulled her out of the shower, she felt warm, so I found the thermometer and took her temperature under her arm, which they say you add a degree to. So 98.7 degrees with the added degree. No big deal. Hubby was out of town for work, so we were FaceTiming him so that they could see each other. Just as we went to get off the phone, she threw up all over the bed, herself, her pillow, pretty much everything but me.

2nd Birthday Partaeee

So, the flu, as influenza, I think hit our house. We were never tested but within 2 weeks we all felt like death warmed over… is that the right phrase? Or do I have it wrong, like most times? Luckily for all our family, my niece’s birthday party wasn’t on her birthday and we were all kind of on the mend. It was rough going there for a while…. yikes! Hubby made sure to get Ambyr with icing before she could attack him. I think we actually made it through one family gathering… Christmas maybe… without the food war… It was definitely overdue!

Kansas from Cedar Vale, Kansas

Does that title have you scratching your head? Well…. Meet Kansas….

Okay, I’ll explain. So a year ago we had 3 colts born… Blue Jeans, Flash, and Cadillac. All stud colts. All yearlings now. We have a lot of horses so this summer we decided to sell a couple off. We posted Flash and Blue Jeans up for sale just to see what would happen. Early in the summer we had a guy hit us up about a trade, horse for horse. We weren’t real sure we wanted another horse, we wanted to disperse some so we kind of said thanks but no thanks.

About a week ago or maybe 2 now though, we rethought that and hubby hit the kid up. I say kid because now we’ve met him and I think he’s probably 18… that’s a kid to me ;). Anyway…. we got some more info on the horse. He’s a 7 year old broke gelding who is just grade. Now grade means no papers. All of our horses are registered. Does that matter? Really only when you go to show maybe.

We kind of wondered why the kid wanted to swap a broke horse for an unbroke stud, but we didn’t question it too much. After some discussion, we decided to do the swap. We got a broke horse out of the deal and sometimes they’re easier to sell anyway if we were to decide to sell him.

Karen and Jared came over on Tuesday of that week to help us try to get a halter on Blue Jeans because he wasn’t broke… not one bit. Not even halter broke. It didn’t work in our favor.  Thursday night my dad went back out with us and we finally got a halter on the colt after a lot of trying. It wasn’t an easy feat but the minute we had the halter on him, his attitude changed. We had him leading in 20 minutes. It was crazy.

And our only real casualty was dad’s arm. Some how dad’s arm got struck by Blue Jean’s front leg. Ouch!

Birthday Party Take 2, But 1

Is that title confusing to anyone else? Okay, I’ll explain. If there is one thing I can tell you about my baby girl it is that she is loved. She is loved by a lot of people. We got involved with our diving group in 2013 when we got certified and they are a second family! Or really, they are family. That’s the best way to describe it. And baby girl got herself one heck of a family! So her birthday was on Sunday, but that Saturday we were at the lake for the Safari Hunt. That evening, we had a small birthday party for her at the lake for those who couldn’t make her birthday party on Sunday. So this kid had 2 birthday parties, this was the first and her actual birthday date was the second. Therefore, Birthday party 1, but post 2. Did you follow all of that? If not, just know my baby girl has one heck of an awesome family both blood and personally added!

We’re a lively bunch, I tell ya! Watch out for us!

So during the Safari Hunt, she played hard. Eventually she took a nap. We got her back up to Deb and Grady’s camper without waking her up and I got her on their couch so she took about a 2 hour nap. When she woke up, I’m not sure she was ready, so she cried and cried. The only person who could console her was daddy!

It’s Her Party and she’ll cry if she wants to

Did you know I have a toddler on my hands. Oh you did? Well did you know my Toddler is Two? Can you believe it? I’m not sure I can. Someone please pinch me and tell me how in the world she got to be so grown up. Seems just like yesterday I was trying to wake hubby up to take me to the hospital so we could do this thing. I still remember most of that day word for word… or thought for thought… or whatever… In fact, I think I remember that better than the day I got married, but I guess the day I got married was about 4 years before that so there is that. Anyway, moving on….

Abug is totally in to Minnie Mouse right now, so my goal was to throw her a Minnie Mouse Birthday Party. I scoured the internet for ideas and themed parties. I stumbled across a cake in the shape of Minnie Mouse, done by circular cake pans so I decided that’s the cake we were going to make her. I was sad because I baked my cake and it dried out. My week/weekend was hectic, so I baked the cake on Thursday for the Sunday birthday party. I guess no wonder it dried out. Oh well…

My mom and I went to Party City on Tuesday last week to look for decorations when we found this gliding Minnie Mouse Balloon. Mom said she needed it because how many times will her granddaughter turn 2. When Liss and Wes got to our house, I still didn’t have it blown up, so I got Wes to help me because I wasn’t sure what I was doing. They would have blown it up for us at the store, but we bought it 5 days before the party and didn’t want to take our chances so we bought a helium tank at Walmart.

Happy First Day of Spring

… yesterday!!…

So what did you do on your first day of spring?

This is what I woke up to…. Well technically it was a text telling us baby on the ground so hubby and I started annoying my dad for pictures 🙂

We weren’t able to go over right away. There are two weekends a year hubby has to work, and this was one of them. We decided to go to church (8:15-9:15) and then he was scheduled to work at 10.
