The KC Farmer’s Market

Have you ever been to a Farmer’s Market?  If you answer no, my answer is GO.  Have you ever been to the Kansas City Farmer’s Market?  If your answer is no, My answer is, darn, because it’s reallllllly cool!

Back in 2011 I went to my first Farmer’s Market and thought it was fabulous… but I’m sorry, the KC City Market (aka farmers market) puts this one to shame.

Last fall we went to Kansas City for a weekend and just stumbled across the City Market trying to find something fun to do.  OMG, best time of my life!

So when we woke up on Saturday morning, a couple weekends ago, with nothing to do, we decided to go to KC and go to the Farmer’s Market.  We jumped on line real fast to make sure they were open during the winter hours, and sure enough they were!  Hot dog.

The spice guy was awesome.

We walked away with:  The spices were generally $1 or $2 per scoop.

Flaxseed

Cilantro

Steak Seasoning

Basil

Applewood Seasoning – apparently no individual photo….

Marjorum

Italian Seasoning

then we came away with bell peppers that were awesome!  6 green peppers for $1, we got 12.  and 4 of the colored bell peppers for $1.  Around here in the stores the green peppers are about 79cents a piece and the colored bell peppers are $1.59+ a piece.

Then we got Elephant Garlic.  OMG, I’ve never seen garlic so large.  In fact when I went to pull it apart I was a little confused. ha!
And 6 sweet onions for $2.
Then the really cool thing about this Farmer’s Market is there are all kinds of stores around as well as quaint little restaurants.  At an Italian Market (where you can get yummy looking sandwiches, so need to try!) we got an extra large (3 Liters) of Extra Virgin Olive Oil, some Arborio Rice (to make Risotto), some Italian Sausage & some fresh Kalamata Olives straight out of the barrel.
I’m not going to lie though, I think what made this even better was that Tbug loved being there with her daddy and me and was asking me how to select produce and then helped pick it out.

  1. I have never been able to find fantastic prices like that when I'm there! Of course, in summer I raise my own veggies. But those peppers were a BUY! I didn't know they had bulk spices, either. Thanks for the info.
