I did something a little crazy last night………

So some may say I’ve lost my mind… Some may say “Hey That’s Cute!!”… some may say “What were you thinking?”… Some may say “Oh MY GOSH!”… some may ask if I’m Pregnant, let me state for the record, I’m not!

I’ve done this one other time, back in February of 2006.  I kind of got the same reaction as I am right now…  Everyone keeps doing a double take….

All I can tell you is I don’t choose the right time of year to do this.  I should do it in summer, not winter!

My neck is cold!!!

When I did this back in February of 2006 I claimed I was having a pre-life crisis.  At that time I was doing my student teaching and constantly getting mistaken for a high school student instead of a final semester college student.  Once I did this… that changed!!

My poor timing there was I did it 2 months before my friend’s wedding… I told her if she did this to me before mine, I wouldn’t be mad, but she didn’t.

I’m not going to blame this on a pre-life crisis but I’m not sure what I’ll blame it on… Oh wait, I know I’ll blame it on the fact I wanted to cross more items off my 101 in 1001 list!  In one foul swoop I crossed off 3 items!!  Go me!  It makes me feel good to know that I’m getting things accomplished!!!  Now if I can keep from having a panic attack, we’ll be fine.

I still don’t have a clue what I think either!

I chopped my hair last night, donating it to Locks of Love.  The first time I did this, I swore I’d never do it again… but here I am… I put it on my list and I did it again…  It’s just such a great cause… I couldn’t help myself.

Here is the before shot…

Seems like a lot of brides do the Post Wedding Chop, I’m not even going to say that’s what I did it for, however it is post wedding… just over 3 months to be exact so I think that is still the time frame… but I really just did this because I knew it was for a good cause.  The Post Wedding Chop I could have just taken a few inches and been done with it…  But this is a required 10 inches.  They’ll take shorter, but they can’t make wigs out of that, instead they sell it to help raise proceeds to offset the making of the wigs for cancer patients.

Here I am trying not to panic…

I swear, it takes a lot to keep the nerve up!  Especially b/c I’ve had longer hair for more time than not.  I only had short hair long enough for it to grow out the last time…

To donate it, they have to tie it up with a ponytail/rubber band or else I read it could be braided as well.  They won’t accept dreds though… good thing I don’t have those!

And the cut.  Bye Bye pretty, long hair… I’ll miss you!  Wow look how friggin dark the underneath side of my hair that doesn’t see sun at all is!  Wow and when I was a little kid I was blond!

10 inches, gone!
Um… can we just glue it back on now, I change my mind!

Doing the final cuts

There is the pile of hair that I get to donate.

I’m still trying very hard not to freak out at this point!  I haven’t had this short of hair since Feb of 2006.

She didn’t cut the top layer, it was to short anyway… But they laughed b/c all I could think was, OMG my neck is going to be so cold… Note to self, If you ever do this again, do it in May….

The picture quality here is horrid b/c I took them with my husbands phone…
but here is the end result

And here’s the back… (wow I look like a linebacker or something… LOL)

I’m not sure what I think!  But I’ve wiped 3 items off my 101 list…
6) Donate hair to Locks of Love (again)
9) Find a new hairdresser I like… I’ve been working on this for a while.  Paula is GREAT!  and she promised me she wouldn’t become a nurse and she isn’t planning on moving any time soon either.**
31) Try a drastic new hairstyle… Yeah so I would say this definitely qualifies!

So until next time… Here’s lookin at you kid (name that movie)

Peace, Love & New Hairs!!

Nicole

**Seems like every time I find a hair dresser I like, they become a nurse or move and I’m stuck looking for a new one… Let’s hope 🙂  But maybe since the hubs found her, my curse will be broke!  (The first time I went to Paula was for my wedding and I haven’t looked back since!)

Have you ever had to let go?  Letting go is hard.  Letting go of the lost for a loved one.  Letting go of hurt feelings.  Letting go. I truthfully wish I was one who could give advice on how to let go, but just like most people, we’re all on this learning curve.  Trying to…

  1. LOVE your hair! Love that you donated it! I did that this past summer and it is the best feeling ever – esp when you get a great new hairdo 🙂

  2. It's adorable and there just couldn't be a better thing to do with your hair. I chopped all my hair off about 5 months after I first got married and it was way shorter than yours. Then I spent years growing it out again and now It's crazy pixie short but I like it like this. 3 things off your list is great!

  3. A linebacker……..you are soo silly! It looks cute! And way to go for donating it. I'm the same way as you, every time I've ever cut my hair, I've immediately grown it back!

By the way…..you've made my kid's day by following her blog! Thanks!

  4. Oh yeah, forgot to say this…….I cut my hair after having my daughter. Post partem I think…….anyway I was watching Days of Our Lives and just went in the bathroom, put that sucker in a pony tail and chopped. It was at my waist and after that it was at my shoulders.

  5. I LOVE IT! It looks really, really good!!

I have been growing my hair for a year and half for the wedding and we still have a year and half to go. The plan is to do that same thing, hopefully I'm as brave as you are!

  6. Love the new 'do, Nicole! I had a similar style last winter (but what I cut off wasn't long enough to donate, unfortunately!) – mine has finally grown out enough again to put in a decent ponytail. Apparently my hair grows slow! LOL

  7. Very cute new hairdo! 🙂 I like my hair short, but never had it that short. Usually just a little above my shoulders. I decided I wanted to grow it out again, so that's what I am in the process of doing. I know what you mean about it being cold on the neck. I have gotten my hair cut short at the beginning of the last 2 winter breaks I have had from school. Can we say, bad timing?

  8. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Honestly, the style SOOOO suits you!! You look amazing!! I know it was probably really difficult but it is for a great cause and it looks fabulous on you!!!!

    xo

  9. JEALOUS!!! I had super short hair EXACTLY like that from '02-'05. I loved it but for some reason I don't have the cajones to do it again (not right now anyway). It's soooo much easier to care for and style. Good for you! It looks awesome!!!

Oh & the neck thing? Buy a few more scarves to keep you warm – you look fab. 🙂
