Let's Make Sweet Tea

So pretty much every Sunday Night Dinner post talks about making Sweet tea and I wondered just how many people out there don’t know how to make it?  Probably no one but still, I’m going to share with you how we make it for Sunday Night Dinner.

Ok so we all use Lipton Cold Brew Iced Tea bags.  Now Earl and I accidentally found out one night that if you put hot water it makes them go faster, but we prefer doing the cold water brew.  You’ll need 4 bags.

You’ll want a One Gallon pitcher and some cold water.

Earl taught me if you keep the paper on the end of the Tea bags (you know what covers the actual bag) it keeps weight and holds the teabags from falling to the bottom.  Smart chica!  Anyway you put your 4 teabags into the gallon of water and let it brew to the desired taste/color.  Then pull your teabags out and squeeze them out so you get the most out of your teabags.

Next you’re going to add the sugar.  See no simple syrup needed here.  We usually do 1 cup sugar to 1 gallon water.  This is the absolute best stirrer I’ve found, however if you don’t have one, just get a really long spoon and stir the sugar into the tea mixture.

And that’s it.  Start to finish, probably less than 10 minutes as long as you don’t forget you’re brewing tea… Hubby and I forget sometimes.  Then add some ice to your glass and pour your tea.  Store the rest in the fridge so it’s nice and cold!

Happy Sunday, we’re headed to Sunday Night Dinner this evening.  Happy Mother’s Day!

  1. Delicious!

Now I've heard, but never tired – yet – if you put 1/8 of a teaspoon of baking soda into your tea (before the sugar) it will nutralize any bitterness.
