Proud Mommy Moment

As you may or may not know, I have a {step}daughter.  Having a stepchild is a bit of a challenge {just because she isn’t there every day}, but so far she and I have a good relationship.  It may change someday, I hope not, but at this point, who knows.

Last Friday my {step}daughter’s school had a Mother’s Day Luncheon that she invited me to.  When I got there her mother was already there, but I didn’t see her anywhere.  She was in the restroom so her half sister ran in to tell her I was there.  Tbug came out and immediately gave me a hug.  Then her half sister MD walked up and gave me a hug as well.

So the principal got up and spoke and then we prayed followed by going through the line to get lunch.  Tbug grabs my hand and said, “I’m going through the line with you.”  So she and I got our food and then made our way back to the table.

Toward the end of lunch I looked at my watch and realized I needed to get back to work.  I looked at her and told her that and she said, “Not before you give me a hug.”  So of course I gave her a hug and then realized I needed to throw my plate away.  I started looking around for the trashcan but she volunteered to throw my plate away for me.  Just then I spotted the trashcan and told her Thank you but I’ll get it.  So I walked over and threw my cup and plate away and went back to tell her bye one more time.

I came up behind her and wrapped my arms around her and gave her a hug.  Just then she grabbed my forearms with both hands and told me I wasn’t leaving.  I kind of chuckled and told her I had to; she told me to call in sick.  Her mother then laughed a bit and said, “Sweetheart she’s already been to work, they’ll know she isn’t sick.”  I gave her one last quick hug and then walked out the door.

I’m not going to lie, it made me feel pretty good that she didn’t want me to leave.

Steampunk? I didn’t even know such a thing existed. I guess I’ve fallen out of the loop or something… I don’t know. One day last fall I got hit up about making 4 dozen steampunk sugar cookies. I had to go google what in the world that was. It’s like corsets and balloons and clocks….

So last fall hubby and I bought a 1999 Volkswagon Passat to keep the miles off his truck, plus it gets better fuel mileage than what his truck does so why not, right? We were really looking for a Jetta Diesel but this one was less than what we wanted to pay and it was…

I’ve been messing around with old photos lately (boy do I have a fun story about that, I’ll share when I share some of those photos) but I found a couple I thought I’d share with you right now. It’s crazy how in just a few years we can all change. Babies grow up, we…

  • The dreaded 30

I’d like to say that I took turning 30 with a grain of salt.  Like it didn’t bother me at all.  Like it was just another year.  Sadly though, if I told you that, I’d be lying.  Now, I will admit that I took 29 even worse than I took 30 but 30 hit me…

So if you read yesterday’s post… I was pouting. I think maybe every once in a while if things don’t go your way, it’s okay to pout? Someone, please tell me it’s okay, even at whatever age I am. My husband asked me who made that rule up and I told him I did. Last…

  1. Oh yea!! What a great moment. I hope you do continue to have a great relationship with her.

Thank you so much for linking up

  2. You are both lucky. I found I learned so much more from my (now 26 year old) daughter than she could have ever learned from me.

Thanks for stopping by my post today – you are correct, I majored in photography but it was a million years ago, way before digital so it's like starting over, technically at least.
    I use a Nikon D5000 with an 18-55 lens. I'd love a zoom!

  3. Sounds like you have a pretty awesome step daughter. I think it's wonderful that you all have such a good relationship! Much healthier than some.

  4. That is so touching…My stepmother and I had MANY issues. I wanted to get along with her, but she had a different parenting style than I was used to. We had our moments- that's for SURE. Now we have the MOST amazing relationship, and I consider her more of a mom than my own mom. Happy Mother's Day 😉
