Do you like See Food?

Do you remember in grade school when a kid would say, “Do you like see food?”  And when another kid would answer “Yes” they’d show the food in their mouth?

Well, I never had to deal with that because I’ve never liked Sea Food, so my answer was always No.

So a couple years ago at the Hibachi Grill around here I shocked the heck out of my mother because some guy and his girlfriend sitting in the same area as us actually conned me into trying a California Roll.  I think I had to pick my mom’s jaw up off the floor even.

Then early last year hubby went to a Hibachi grill with work and they conned him in to trying sushi.  Ok so he’s a little more willing to try things than I am :).  But anyway I will eat California Rolls.  So while we were in Tulsa, we went to a grocery store there and they had salmon, which hubby has been wanting, plus we picked up shrimp and some California Rolls.

I ran across this Shrimp recipe I wanted to try.  Yes, me, the girl who DOESN’T like anything that comes out of water.  But hubs thought the California Rolls would be great for an appetizer.

Now the Shrimp

Grilled Coconut Milk Shrimp with Honey Lime Glaze via Coupon Goddess

1 1/2 lbs shrimp, peeled and deveined
1 13.5 oz can coconut milk
1/4 cup cilantro (or more if you love it like me)
4 cloves garlic peeled (or 6 if you love garlic)
1/2 tsp salt
1/3 cup honey
1 whole lime juiced
1/4 tsp cayenne (or more if you love spicy)

Combine coconut milk, cilantro, garlic and salt in a food processor. Pulse until very well combined.

Pour mixture over shrimp and chill for at least 1/2 hour.

Put shrimp on skewers

and grill until firm and pink.

In a small bowl, combine honey, lime juice and cayenne.

Brush on shrimp at the end of cooking.

They weren’t bad in my opinion, but remember, I’m not totally crazy about seafood, but I actually ate them.  Hubs Loved it 🙂

Then we had to decide something to go along side the shrimp; we chose cheesy veggies.

Frozen veggie mix (we chose broccoli, cauliflower & carrots)
Velveeta Cheese

Heat the veggies, add the cheese and melt.

Enjoy!

  1. Girl, I was you once. Tulsa has some AMAZING sushi restaurants. Which grocery store sold California Rolls? I must go!

But when I started this stupid diet, I read in the book that a sushi roll is like 400 calories!!!! I can eat 6-8 in one setting PLUS a salad and soup. YIKES. But I still can't wait to have it again.

Love your recipe for some yummy shrimp. I'm saving this post under my recipe folder on my computer!!!!

  2. There is a lot of sushi that you would probably enjoy. Not all of it is raw fish. I have it about 2 or 3 times a week. Very healthy stuff. I just dont get it at a grocery store though. It is much better when made fresh and served.

  3. I totally thought you were going to show us a gross picture of food in your mouth! Haha!!

I love seafood! I bet I would adore these shrimp!!
