My Mother’s Day 2018

Happy Mother’s Day! Mother’s Day is an interesting day, truly. Some people even choose not to celebrate it thinking that it is a Hallmark Holiday, however, those same people are willing to celebrate International Women’s Day. Just a thought. haha. I choose to celebrate Mother’s Day. It might be a Hallmark Holiday but you know… I like Hallmark movies. haha. I wonder if Hallmark tv channel and Hallmark Cards are one in the same… Google… I’ll be for you in a minute.

Now… I was a step-mother long before I was a mother. In fact, 6 years. There is a lot of debate if I got included in that celebration. There’s sometimes a debate if any step-mother’s are included. My husband included me although I didn’t feel like I should. But that’s neither here nor there. I am now a mom too. I guess I do get to celebrate Mother’s Day. Although I should clarify, earlier when I said I celebrated, don’t worry, I celebrated my own mother and my grandmothers.

Anyway, this year I invited my grandma, my mother in law, and of course my mother (after all right now we live in her house) for Mother’s Day dinner. The week leading up, I had no idea what I would make. I like to cook after all! But I was still at a loss for what to make. (more…)

Let Her Tell You About Her Mommy

Today is Mother’s Day. Happy Mother’s Day. This goes to ALL mothers! Mother’s who have given birth, mothers who have taken other’s kids to raise or help raise, those who have lost, those who have never been able to have their own. Have a great day!

I’m going to end this with a cute little questionnaire from my sweetheart! I’d ask my 15-year-old, but she’d probably get all the answers right, so I’ll stick with the 3-year-old.

Royal Games {Book Review}

Here it is, midnight. My family is sleeping and I’m sitting here typing away. Why? I just finished book number 10 for my 12 book challenge this year.

Ok first off… let’s address the 12 book challenge. My sister in law challenged me to 52 books. I knew I couldn’t do that. Truthfully I wasn’t sure I could do 12. Most of them have been on the Kindle that I’ve finished so far. I can read in the dark while my husband snores and keeps me awake. #truth. And yes, I still love the feel of real books, but the Kindle is nice when it comes to nighttime reading. Plus you can carry multiple books around with you at once. Win-Win!

Okay, now… when I went into reading tonight, I was at 74% of the book read. I couldn’t put the friggin thing down. I got to the point, even though I knew what was going to happen, I couldn’t wait to see how it played out.

Finally, this was another one of those Hallmark movies… although it would have been on Hallmark Movies and Mysteries while the other two would have been on regular Hallmark. Royal Date would have been a Christmas movie. Royal Chase would have been a spring fling movie. This one would possibly be a Christmas movie or else maybe a fall movie or a January, just after all the Christmas movies go back into the vault for the year. I’ll have to get back to you on that thought… (more…)

It’s Wedding Season

I don’t know if you know it or not, but summer has officially sprung! Here in the midwest we went from Winter to Summer. Spring, what’s that? I’m pretty sure last fall we didn’t know what Fall was. We just fell from Summer into Winter. Crazy Midwest weather.

But, that being said, It’s coming on big time wedding season. They say that people in the olden days got married in June because they took their yearly shower in June so they’d smell good. But for good measure they carried a bouquet of flowers to hid that musty smell. haha. I sure hope that was a joke! In this instance, I just hope I’m gullible because if that’s true, pew.

Last weekend, I went to a wedding. Yup, that’s where I was headed with all of that. The weather was gorgeous! We drove out to Big Hill Lake near Cherryvale, Kansas. I have a bunch of friends that live in that area. I was apparently only 3 miles from one of them. I’m not sure about the other… but on one of their farm websites they mention Big Hill Lake in their description on where they’re located.

When I got there, wedding preparations were already underway. As you can see, I got in on some good pictures of them making lemonade. We also had taste testers in this endeavor. It was fun. (more…)

Baptism Sugar Cookies

Guys, It’s truly been a bit since I’ve decorated Sugar Cookies. The last ones I did for anyone were the Ladybug/Steampunk. They were done at the same time. Then… I haven’t done any until Easter when we tried a different recipe. By the way, I like my recipe better when it comes to decorated sugar cookies. Those we tried around Easter mounded up and then sunk. Not so good on the decorating storefront.

#BlogApril

Hi! So I didn’t do #BlogMarch. I guess I forgot. That’s okay… This is mainly done for just me. Although, it’s a great way for you to see what blog posts you missed. You’re welcome. I’m also debating redoing my Cook with Me page because… it’s a pain in the butt. Grrr… Don’t ask. I guess blog work is never done.

So here’s a funny… I just forgot what I was going to type. Funny, right? haha. Oh… This thing says I write in too much passive voice. The thing is… that’s something I got “in trouble” for in Grad School. You’d think I’d learn not to write in Passive voice but apparently not. ha! Let’s not focus on my passive voice… instead, let’s move on to the top blog posts of April 2018.

The Duck Race

If you’ve been paying attention to the weather around the country any this week, then you’ll know the Midwest was supposed to get hit with a HUGE potential of Severe Thunderstorms/Tornadic weather. I woke up this morning to a HUGE bang of thunder. I always say that all we need is a good thunderstorm and all trees just blossom BAM! Yup, I was right.

The other thing to note is we’re on baby watch 2018. No… not me. The horse’s sillies. One mare is 1 week overdue and the other is about 2 weeks out. With crappy weather like this, I halfway expected to walk out and find 2 babies on the ground. So far, notta.

But there is a light rain going on and by the time I was done feeding critters, I’m kind of soggy. Which reminds me of a day not too long ago that I got soggy. Let me explain…

The Duck Race

A couple weekends ago we were helping out with Trails for Kids. One of the events to raise money is the Duck Race. We sell little toy ducks that float for $2/each or 3 for $5. Then we go to Sugar Creek, the creek that runs right alongside the campground. We dump them in, and the winner wins half the pot of money collected. Easy enough, right? Sure… (more…)

Royal Chase {Book Review}

I’m a sucker for a good romance novel. There are those that have sex scenes and then there are those that don’t but you don’t miss them. It’s true. That might be my infatuation with Hallmark movies. They are good for all ages. Just a thought.

I recently read Royal Date by Sariah Wilson. While some of the writing and description felt redundant and made me want to scream, it was a good book. I know that when you’re writing a book, you have to describe things so that people can use their imagination. That way they can see the story as they are reading it. So I knew I wanted to read the next book in the series.

The next book in the series is Royal Chase. There were two main female characters in Royal Date, Kat and Lemon. Lemon, right? Who names their kid Lemon. Well obviously this gal’s parents, that’s who. haha. Royal Date followed Kat’s story. Her story was a little hard for me to relate to even though like I said, I really liked the book. So much so that I couldn’t put it down. Royal Chase though, it followed Lemon’s story. Much more relatable for me.  In fact, I stayed up past midnight last night reading it. I just couldn’t put it down and finally had to make myself. I knew I needed my sleep. (more…)

Update

  1. So if you read yesterday’s post… I was pouting. I think maybe every once in a while if things don’t go your way, it’s okay to pout? Someone, please tell me it’s okay, even at whatever age I am. My husband asked me who made that rule up and I told him I did.
  2. Last weekend was Abug’s Dance Recital photos. They were to wear Bright Red Lipstick. Now first off, I haven’t worn lipstick since I was in my early 20’s and then I wore more natural/darker colors. So I went and bought bright red. After I had my pouting moment, I put on the bright red lipstick. First off, it matched my shirt. I laughed. Second off, I looked WEIRD! I don’t think I’ll be wearing bright red lipstick any time soon. Not sure what the appeal is.
  3. It’s 16-hour lipstick. I woke up this morning and it’s still there. I laughed again. Maybe that’s just what I needed!
  4. Two weekends ago we were helping raise money for our local CP Center. More details to come on that… But I either have a cold from that or I have allergies. I’m not sure how to know the difference. But either way, I have my sexy voice on. Go me.
  5. I woke up today in a better mood than yesterday. While I’m still frustrated, I’m not pouting anymore. I swear, maybe it was the lipstick… if nothing else, making fun of myself.
  6. No, I didn’t take a picture.
  7. So if you’ve been watching the weather, there are potential storms to hit the midwest. Ours is supposed to hit here tomorrow. Fun stuff. My mom was in North Carolina when we had a Microburst hit here back in 2008 (I think it was). She was in Germany when the Tornado hit here in 2011. She’s out of town again. I’m worried…
  8. We have a mare that is supposed to be foaling… well last week actually. She’s still plugging along. We had a mare back in the late ’90s who held on for 13 months. Mares carry for 11. This mare (technically foal) we’re waiting on has the genes from that foal back in the late ’90s. (Grandpa on the paternal side.)

And that’s all she wrote today!

Week 34

How far along? 34 weeks 6 days

Total weight gain/loss: I was quite surprised after a weekend at the lake, my weight didn’t go up that much, score, right? I feel like a walking beached whale right now. Especially trying to get off the stinking bed! Oh, and you should have seen me trying to get out of the bed in the RV this weekend…

How big is baby? Baby is the size of a Butternut Squash. She weighs in at about 4.2 pounds to 5.8 pounds and measures about 17.2 to 18.7 inches. {Holy cow, is there room for that in there??}

  • She’s recognizing and reacting to simple songs if you’re singing them. (If you’re not, start! She may find them soothing after birth.)
  • She’s also urinating about a pint a day. {Lovely thought…}
