Easter 2018 (Better Late Than Never)

Easter 2018

Yey! Easter has come (and gone!). This year we made a trip to my aunt and uncles in southern Oklahoma for Easter. It is a 5 1/2 hour trip down, so we left Friday, celebrated Easter (with dinner) on Saturday and drove home on Sunday. Luckily this was our year to have Tbug with us too! Woot woot!

We weren’t able to get Tbug until something like 1:30 on Friday and my dad wasn’t able to get off work until closer to 3ish so by the time we got out of there, it was closer to 4 or 5. I can’t quite remember but does it really matter?

On the drive down I listened to the book, The Time of My Life by Patrick Swayze and his wife Lisa Niemi. I can’t read in a car. I get car sick just sitting in one if I’m in the back seat, so reading is totally out of the question. But Audible to the rescue! It wasn’t a total loss, yey! I’ll have to do a “book report” on that in the coming days. So totally worth reading (or in my case, listening to).

We stopped in Oklahoma City for dinner. Technically Norman at a restaurant called Salt Grass. So totally YUM! Oh and don’t worry, I sent my friend Camille a picture of the water tower. I didn’t forget her on my way through… although I never got a response. In the words of Stephanie Tanner, How Rude! haha.

We got into AC & UB’s close to 11 pm. Abug told UB she was going to get up the next morning at 7 am and do chores with him.

Saturday

Abug wasn’t up at 7 am for chores, but I was up then. I got up, threw hubby’s sweatshirt and my boots on (with my t-shirt and gym shorts, cute look I’m telling you) and ran out to take pictures of the gorgeous sunrise.

I turned and looked back and the moon hung over the barn. So peaceful and magical. Really!

Then I went back in the house and started the day. Our meal consisted of Ham, Sweet Potatoes (OMG, YUM!), Mashed potatoes, my bacon wrapped green beans, rolls (oy!), carrots, and dessert.

I’ve learned that doing my green beans in a crockpot actually yields a better green bean. I should update my recipe post on those! Now, being in a crockpot, they were the first thing I had to do because, hello, crockpots aren’t instant!

Next, I focused on dessert. We had 2 desserts actually. A Pineapple Upside Down Carrot Cake (oh wow), and a Chocolate Pie that I found on the Twisted Website. Now… part of our problem on the Chocolate Pie is we didn’t have the right kind of chocolate for the pie part I don’t think so it was a bit bitter. Now my mom disagreed and thought the crust was the problem. I guess, we just weren’t impressed either way around. The thing is though, I want to try it again and see if something makes a difference…

My mom wanted sweet potatoes. My aunt bought them and then asked how we were going to make them. No one knew so she put hubby on the search in her cookbook collection to find a recipe. He found one in the 3rd book he looked in and oh my gosh, they were amazing!

After Dinner

After dinner, hubby and I ran to town to pick up a few things. When we got back, Abug was adamant that she was going to go do chores with UB. While she and Tbug went to help with chores, including riding the 4-wheeler and the Viking, hubby and I boiled eggs for the girls to decorate.

Once they cooled and the girls got back, it was time to decorate eggs.

This is the first year Abug has been big enough to really decorate eggs. It was quite the fun experience! I was quite nervous that she was going to make a huge mess, but she did awesomely! And I think she had a lot of fun.

She did NOT want me to take a picture of the egg Tbug was decorating.

Later in the afternoon

After we were done coloring eggs, I went on a picture mission/hunt. My goal was to find letter pictures… but of course, I had to take other pictures as well. While I was walking around up by the barn, AC & UB, who had been checking on calves, saw me and gave me silly looks. Then I hopped on the Viking with them and we went out into the pasture and checked on the cows. It is calving season after all.

UB had a cow that has prolapsed and was about to calve. With the prolapse, they had to sew her parts back in, so when it was calving time, they had to help her. So UB was watching her closely. Well around 9 pm or so he went out to check her, came in and said IT’S TIME. So UB, AC, Dad, and Hubby hopped in the trucks and took off to the barn to go assist the cow.

After this bull calf was born, that put the count up to 3 that day. Must be the day to calve. Which was a good thing because the weather turned off cool that night and was chilly the next morning. Truth be told about farm animals… they usually have their babies in the cold. Yuck!

Easter Morning

The Easter Bunny arrived. He heard that Tbug needed a power brick to keep on her to keep her phone charged. How nice! And Abug got movies. Plus candy because duh!

We then packed up and headed home. On our way through Tulsa we stopped at Chili’s for lunch. We’ll just leave it at that for now…

While we were driving home my MIL asked when we’d be home. I told her I’d let her know. So that evening when we got home she came over to see Abug. We all sat down and watched, We Bought a Zoo. Very good movie by the way! Then I put in Pitch Perfect 2, which we started but then left and ran to town for pizza.

And that was our Easter. Hopefully you had a very enjoyable Easter and truly remembered the reason for the season (and no, it isn’t all about the bunny)!
