Da Bull

Well… Saturday didn’t go the way we planned…. Here’s the story….

My dad was sent out of town for work and wasn’t sure when he was going to come home. No big deal. Friday morning I woke and went to my Mother-in-Law’s to water cows, what I do most days. When I got there, a few of the cows were at the stock tank, the mosied off and the bull came over. We’ve had this bull now for about a year. He was supposed to be a show bull but they decided not to show him and we bought him instead so he’s not really afraid of anything. I just knew he was up to no good for some reason but I couldn’t place a finger on it.

Later that morning I got a text message from my MIL saying the bull was out. Not a big deal except I was 20 some miles away so I jumped in the truck and headed that direction as fast as I could get there. I got there, we got him in, and I went back to what I was doing.

With a Moo Moo here and a Moo Moo there….

Being as though it is winter, we can’t leave an automatic waterer hooked up to the stock tank. This is the first week that the cows have been at my MIL’s house. So far, so good. Every day we go over, check on cows, fill the water, and just make sure it’s all overall good.

Plans are a couple times per week to feed them range cubes and haul hay over just to make sure, but look at that grass. I swear it’s almost waist high on me and I’m 5’7″ with most of that in my legs. It’s lovely.

Yesterday however, we pulled into my MIL’s house and didn’t find the cows. Dad got a little worried, so he opened the gate and we drove off into the pasture. We found them all the way at the back of her land. No big deal. We had a bag of range cubes so we went ahead and fed them the bag.

Now here’s the funny part of the story… As I went to pull back out of the gate into my MIL’s yard I hit a huge pile of wet cow poop, spun out, and slung poop everywhere. I’m surprised my dad didn’t get in the truck covered because I covered the gate and he was standing there by the gate. Whoops. Otherwise, all good so far!!

#QHNHunt

This last weekend I was in Ft. Worth Texas at our yearly pilgrimage. haha. No, the NCHA Futurity was going on. This is the big time where you go to show 3 year old horses who have never been shown in front of a judge for their debut.

Over in the Trade Show at the Quarter Horse News booth they had a scavenger hunt going on. My dad said I should enter. I went on to Facebook and Instagram to look up the #QHNHunt hastag to see how many people had participated already since it’s been going on since November 15 and there were like 13 responses.

Only 13? That’s madness!

There’s 10 items on this paper. I read the rules and it said that they were going to randomly select people throughout for prizes as well as 2 grand prize winners for completing all 10 items. This was for both the NCHA Futurity and the National Reining Horse World Finals. It was going on from November 15-December 10, 2016. Now maybe, just maybe, I’m the uncool one for participating and if that’s the case, I can deal with that I guess…. but I jumped in and started participating. Although I must admit I felt like an idiot….

Horse ‘n Around on Halloween

After we went to the Trunk or Treat at the hospital, Abug and I met up with hubby and Jared and went down to our campground where we ride horses. They were having a Halloween shindig called Horse ‘n Around on Halloween (I think that’s what it was called anyway… lol). There was also a Costume contest and a Chili Feed. Jody brought JP down with her and we dressed the girls up, but we didn’t get any pictures of them in the costume parade. We then took them back, dressed them back in regular clothing and went for the Chili Feed.

Normally I don’t like chili but they made some without beans so I tried it. I must say, it was good. Part of the reason I “don’t like chili” is I ate a lot of it as a kid. I kind of burned out on it. That and we made it so spicy that one bite and your lips were ON FIRE. This was mild and really hit the spot!
