Weekend review – Better late than never!

This last weekend started off with celebrating my grandpa’s birthday Friday night. On our way down to pick my grandma up my dad got a phone call from a friend asking him to come over and ride horses Saturday morning.

I knew hubby had plans on cleaning up around the house… no specifics were know, just the knowledge of it. So when dad asked if we wanted to go ride with him, Tbug, Abug, and I jumped at the chance. Come on, ride horses or work… you decide. Hubby is a good sport and said, “well you girls have fun.”

We got up early enough Saturday morning that we could run through town and get breakfast, then we headed to my parents house. Dad decided we could eat breakfast before we unloaded horse/cow feed (don’t worry we got him some too) so I sat Abug down on the dog food for a place to eat her breakfast. If you want to know how to keep a toddler still for a photo, give her food! :). haha.

Then it was time to unload feed. Tbug decided to help Grandpa carry the feed into the barn so I drug the sacks to the back of the tailgate so they could grab them. I stayed at the truck though to watch Abug and make sure she didn’t decide to nose dive off the tailgate.

Then Abug and I jumped in the front seat of the truck and moved it over to the trailer so we could hook it up, load up the horses and head to Wayne’s house.

Once we got to Wayne’s house Abug and I stayed on the outside of the fence for a few minutes while they warmed horses up. Our horses hadn’t really been ridden in about a month to a month and a half so I didn’t want her on one that might act up.

Our Monday that Was

Recently I have shared with you Wednesday nights, Thursday evenings, Friday day, Friday night, Saturday, Sunday, so why not keep with the theme and share last Monday with you. Is it anything spectacular, no, probably not but it is what it is. That and last night I got to see Dancing with the Stars live and I’m too tired to think of anything else to blog about… so you get last Monday.

Mom woke me up at 7:30am. Yes, that’s not early, but when you haven’t slept much because you can’t get comfortable and your husband snores, you make up for it in the mornings. Abug and I thought it would be fun to go with mom to Springfield shopping so she woke up around 9 while I was fixing my hair. I put on CMT because she loves listening to music and that entertained her while I was getting ready.

Mom came and got us and we were finally off. Then it was time to go shopping. While mom was trying clothes on, Abug was entertaining herself in the mirror. (Don’t worry I was there with her, she wasn’t just left in front of the mirror ;)).

After we went shopping we went to lunch. One of my favorite places to eat is Zio’s. There are so many good places to eat in Springfield and we always migrate to Zio’s. We were being mean sending hubby pictures and messages that that is what we were having for lunch. I jokingly told my mom I should take hubby some of the Tomato Florentine soup home for dinner. Then I said I needed to get 2 so that I’d have something to eat too…. Mom took me serious and ordered Chicken Parmesan, 2 cups of soup and Tiramisu for dessert for us. Thank you mom, we love you!!

Lazy Dawg Days of Summer

Let’s set the record strait, yes, we have a swimming pool. No we didn’t open it this year. There’s lots of reasons why that I don’t feel like going into right now, but yes, yes we do have a swimming pool.

Sunday the weather was sunny and hot! Hubby, Tbug, Abug and I went to run a few errands and then come back to the house so hubby could help work on the tractor and the baler (2 separate things… not one thing involving both… sadly!)

I figured that Abug would LOVE to play outside so I went and got a horse watering trough that we actually used for sheep and filled it with water for Tbug and Abug to play in. It really was the perfect size pool for Abug. She can stand up and sit down and stand up and sit down and so on… you get the point. I got Tbug a chair and said either A) sit in the chair and stick your feet in or B) get in and play with her.

Once we got them all set up in the shade, I left them up by the house where dad and hubby were working right beside them on the tractor and I went and jumped in the other tractor and went and raked hay. Should I mention I ran the other tractor out of hydraulic fluid? There was a line that busted… #fail! Luckily it happened right as I finished up my last row to rake so I parked the tractor and went back to the girls.

Abug got cold so Tbug was taking her in the house to dry them all off and then Abug went down for a nap.

Movie: Men in Black

Earlier this week, or maybe it was late last week, my days are kind of running together at this point as I’ve been fighting a cold, the flu, an ear infection, a cough for 4 weeks now. Okay… anyway I mentioned a few weeks ago I like the Timehop app… and no noone is telling me to mention this app…. That was an interesting paragraph… blame it on the prescription cough medicine I just took!

So I was perusing through my day through the years and at the end they give you a bit of time trivia. This just so happened to be what came up…

First off I should mention I loved this movie.

So I was in early high school when this came out. One day during the summer I was invited over to my friend Taria’s house for the day. If you remember, this is also around the same time that the N64’s came out and she had MarioKart. I had 2 controllers and that game system would hold 4 controllers so I took my 2 over, she had 2 and the tournament was on between her siblings and me.

Her parents had a huge stereo system and it had surround sound so Taria put the Men in Black CD on and away we went. One of the songs is all instrumental and playing MarioKart while hearing that particular song in surround sound made us all extremely competitive. It was hilarious and intense.

So after I heard that song I wanted the sound track. So I think it was for Christmas that year my grandma asked what I wanted and I told her I wanted the Men in Black sound track CD. Simple enough, right?

At the time we had a local Hastings store so my grandma went to Hastings to find the CD I wanted. A guy came up and asked her if he could help her locate something and she told him, yes, I want “All the Black Men CD.” And that my friends is how my family started referring to the movie as “All the Black Men”… lol :).

It’s fun stories like this that I remember so vividly about my grandma. It’s hard to believe that my grandma has been gone since September 11, 2007. I miss her every day and it upsets me so much that she was never able to meet my great family. Hubby, Tbug and Abug missed out on meeting a great lady but even more so a great lady missed out on these incredible people.

So Grandma, I know you can’t read this but know I still love and miss you! I love you!

p.s. read the bottom “fact” on the picture. Hope you laugh :). It’ll lighten the mood!

Happy (belated) My Grandma's Birthday to You

Yesterday, February 5th would have been my grandma’s birthday. She would have been 82 I think. Dang that doesn’t even seem right to me. But I do talk about her in past tense because she passed away on September 11, 2007 after fighting cancer. Sadly that means that my dear sweet husband never got to meet her and she never got to meet him. I know she’d have absolutely LOVED him and vise versa. So in 2010 hubby and I started a tradition… on her birthday we go eat dinner at Red Lobster, which was one of her favorite places. So last night we met up with my parents and went and ate dinner then Baby girl went home with my parents and hubby and I went to the hospital.

Don’t worry, this trip to the hospital was a good thing… Remember I said just a week ago, next up, the baby… yup, my sister-in-law had her baby. It was time to go meet the new baby.

Proud new daddy.

Dang she was a light weight… ha! seeing as though Abug weighs in around 16+lbs now and she was born weighing 6lb 9oz. She was 18″ long and had a head of dark hair. Now you know my SIL and my war against purple (I like it she doesn’t…) so they were supprised that Ebug had a head of dark hair. Liss was wondering where it came from. Wes’ hair is darker. So I asked Liss if she even knew what her natural hair color was and she was like, purple :). Score! And don’t worry, before I left I told her she was old. (btw, I worked it into this post as well! score! Another war we have for some reason). Welcome to the world sweet baby girl.

Decorating the tree 2014

A tradition that I’ve tried to keep up with every year that hubby and I have been together is making sure Tbug is included in decorating the tree. Usually I know the demands of every weekend that we have her November and December (her cheer schedule can do a person in sometimes) But my goal is to always have her involved as long as time permits. One year we even decorated the tree the first weekend of November because of her schedule versus ours.

This year we got her Thanksgiving weekend so I said no matter what the tree IS. GOING. UP. THIS. WEEKEND. Otherwise we wouldn’t have her until the weekend before Christmas and that’s unacceptable to put a tree up that late.

So that was what we did first thing Saturday morning. Decorated the tree. Now I wanted baby girl more involved but we started during naptime… so…. this is what she did most of the time. Oh well you win some you lose some.

Tbug was so excited when she heard she had to help find Christmas lights that work. ha! So… the story behind that is earlier this year she spent a couple hours at my parents house going through my dad’s Christmas lights for him. So it’s a big joke with us now. Yes, we have a prelit tree but one set of lights decided not to work so we just strung lights on it to save time.

Every year we add ornaments to our tree. This year we added very few though…
Our trip to Memphis

Baby girl’s first Christmas ornament.

Tbug got to put the first ornament on the tree this year.

Then hubby joined in on the fun!

Just before baby girl went to sleep I wanted her to “hang” her first ornament so hubby woke her up (she was almost asleep. I know bad mommy award here) and she helped him hang up her ornament.

Now typically I unwrap ornaments and pass them out to be put on the tree… but I save back a few ornaments specifically for me to put on the tree. My “goat” ornament is one of those….

And here is the 2014 tree. I think we might need to get a bigger tree. There’s one ornament we got that we didn’t get a picture of… it’s our family ornament. It’s a Chief’s chalkboard that says nice list: Chiefs Fans, everyone else naughty list :). ha!

Thanksgiving part 2

So after the KitchenAid Mixer debacle, it was time for bed. You know, that and after getting all of the rolls actually baked.

The next morning hubby got up before baby girl and I did. When I woke up this is how she was laying. Tooooooo dang cute if I do say so myself. We went ahead and let her sleep and went in the kitchen and started prep work.

Once we heard her stir we brought her in with us.

I went wheeling through the living room and this is how I found the cat. What is she watching?

The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade of course.

Then it was time to head in to my father-in-law’s house. Once we got back we made plans with my MIL to come over early to watch baby girl while we finished up Thanksgiving dinner for our house. Good thing too because someone didn’t like sitting on the table.

Now it wouldn’t be a holiday at our house if it weren’t for plumbing problems. One Thanksgiving we found a nail driven through a pipe and it burst. Another year at Christmas a pipe broke and we flooded the livingroom/office. And this year… I had the washer going and as the washer was getting rid of the water during the rinse cycle… I heard what sounded like running water on the floor. Sure enough. We had a clogged pipe. But pulling out the dryer I found the jar I broke like 3 years ago accidentally and my Football trays.

This was actually Tbug’s Thanksgiving at her mom’s house this year, but because we were doing dinner and they were finished, she got to come over to the house a bit early. My parents picked her up on their way to our house.

Baby girls bow I made for her Thanksgiving outfit.

And who might she be looking at?

None other than Grandpa. (My FIL. We really need a way to tell Grandpa FIL from Grandpa dad apart for her :)… My mom is Grandma and my MIL is Memaw but both grandpa’s are grandpa….)

The table set for all of us. I brought the bar stool over and put baby girls bumbo on it and she sat at the table with us. She loved it.

Smoked Turkey

Our corn casserole. This casserole is GREAT but it’s even better in this bowl. There’s something about this bowl. My grandma always made it in this bowl and when she passed away I got the Corn Casserole bowl. Hubby and I have made this in other pans but it definitely tastes better in this bowl. Must be because it’s Grandma’s bowl. That’s my story and I’m sticking too it. (side note, I used to refer to my grandparents as Grandma and Grandpa with the Horses (mom’s) and Grandma and Grandpa with the cows (dads) even though they both had each, one was known for one and one was known more for the other.)

Andouille Pudding

Potato Casserole

Garlic Cheesy Mashed Potatoes

The Gravy. This wasn’t my best gravy I can tell you that for sure 🙁

Memaw’s Cheesecake – I should tell you Baby Girl absolutely loved this. No she didn’t eat a lot but she had a bite or two or three.

And then someone passed out at the end of the party. She had a big day with very few naps, what can you expect?

Happy Thanksgiving! I’d say her first Thanksgiving was successful!

More Deep Conversations

The other night I needed to study for a test that I have tomorrow. We got everyone showered at the house and all piled on our bed. Hubby said he’d help me look up some definitions I needed and Tbug said she’d feed the Peanut for me. So Tbug was sitting to my right on hubby’s side of the bed just a yacking away. I would answer her when she asked me a question and hubby was talking to her as well. Then while I was writing a definition I realized it got suddenly quiet. I looked over and this is what I saw. I got hubby’s attention and got my camera out for the photo op. A few minutes later she woke up and continued talking. Hubby told her she dozed off and she was like, no I didn’t. I just closed my eyes for a minute. Then I showed her the picture. She was like, well it’s just so comfortable laying like this I couldn’t help it.

Ah my little loves!

Deep Conversations

This was a Tbug weekend. Saturday we went to my parents house and then Peanut and Tbug wound up staying there for a while so I could go home and mow lawn and hubby could do some work. My mom said she walked into the kitchen during a “deep” conversation between my dad and Tbug about Pepsi vs Coke. The next morning when they went to the store my dad disappeared and came back with a 2Liter of Coke and a pack of Pepsi. My mom asked if he was buying those specifically for Tbug and he said, I’m just buying them to keep in the fridge so they are there. Gotta love it!

So are you a Coke or a Pepsi fan?? (diet counts)

The Tale of the Screaming Baby

Have you heard this one? No? Well, let me tell you, this is quite the story :).

A week ago I was home trying to get some homework done before I had to leave and go to class and I had a screaming baby on my hands. That isn’t the best environment conducive to studying I can tell you.

Hubby and I aren’t really for the pacifier thing, but I’d rather give her that then have her suck on her thumb… I can take a pacifier away… But the question was… where did the stinking pacifier go? There are 2 of them that she loves… but I couldn’t find either one of them. Oy!
