Chili’s {Joplin, MO}

Starting this out it seems like all I am able to write about is food posts, but I promise this blog will be more than about food! My mother is kicking butt at losing weight so when I am with her we choose restaurants she’ll be able to eat at. I really should take cues from her, but that’s another post for another day. One restaurant she can find things to eat at is Chili’s and we recently got one in Joplin. By the way, does that make you want to sing the Baby Back Rib song that used to be their commercial theme song? If it didn’t, but it does now, you’re welcome :).

Red Robin… YUM! {Springfield, MO}

Yesterday my mom, daughter, and I went to Springfield in search of clothes. Sounds like fun right? Well sometimes you need clothes when going on a job interview.

We got to Springfield around 11:30, which is lunch time! So we discussed where we were going for lunch. Since we were headed to Battlefield Mall and it’s at Glenstone and Battlefield, we decided to eat at Red Robin (3720 S. Glenstone Ave, Springfield, MO). I’m so glad we did too!

When did they decide adults don’t need coloring pages like kids do? I sometimes have more fun coloring than anyone.

Habaneros Mexican Grill {Joplin, MO}

A couple of friends of mine started talking about this Mexican restaurant that we needed to try that was in the old KFC restaurant. I asked my mom if she knew where the old KFC restaurant was and she wondered if it wasn’t Habaneros Mexican Grill (2526 E 7th St., Joplin, MO), but we weren’t for sure. Then our friends verified, so we knew that we had to go try it.

One day after an appointment I had to attend, we met up and had lunch there. I got their Speedy Gonzalez. An Enchilada and a Taco with rice or beans. Obviously I went rice and got a Cheese Enchilada with cheese sauce. Let’s just say YUM! (more…)

Cave Gang Pizza and Pub {Carthage, MO}

Here lately there has been a lot of hype about a new pizza place in Carthage, MO, called Cave Gang Pizza (910 S. Garrison Ave, Carthage, MO). Friday night after the fair, we decided to go try it out.

This is a wood fire pizza joint and let’s just say YUM! The atmosphere is really something to be reckoned with. The story is that the building is built over an underground cavern. There was a group of boys called the 10th Street Cave Gang and they would go into the cave and leave trinkets as far back as they could travel.

Lunch Date

Not mine though…. oh no…. so a while back hubby got a phone call from some of our friends. They had been in a class and had a lunch break and asked if we wanted to meet them for lunch. We said sure. When they heard Abug was coming… It was all about their lunch date with Abug.

I just love it… and might be a little jealous of that cute sweetheart! haha. Nah!

Anyway we met them at a restaurant called Tropicana Bar & Grille

I’m on a food kick this week….

I’m on a food kick this week… I can’t help it! Sometimes it happens! Monday there was a post on Homemade Oreo cookies, Tuesday was about French Dip sandwiches, yesterday was a restaurant we ate Mexican food at and today… Fried Chicken!

Although maybe I should wait to post this because they’re getting ready to change locations, but really that doesn’t matter.

So Saturday night we met up with my parents for dinner and went to Kicks Fried Chicken. Yum!

Hubby and I actually went to school with the owners. One of them, Justin, happened to be working that night. When we walked in he greeted us and then when we said we were waiting on my parents, my dad walked in and he was like you claim him. Obviously being funny and then walked up and shook my dad’s hand. That’s what you get for hometown restaurants.

More Mexican Food!

Last month I kind of lost some momentum in blogging and I can’t say that I totally got my mojo back… but at the same time I feel like blogging. I guess blog when you feel it, right? haha. Actually I typed blog post this morning and now I’m typing a second one in the day and I have someone tapping my shoulder to see if they can mess up my typing. I already typed the word diving instead of blogging because, well…. I’m standing in a dive shop. It happens!

Anyway that paragraph has NOTHING to do with what this post is about. of course I’m off to a great start on another paragraph that still has nothing to do with the post. oy! Anyway….

I wanted to blog about another restaurant. I get made fun of sometimes because I take pictures of food and I blog about it even more so… but some day we may be eating blue and green and red pills to get our nutrition and I’d like to remember what real food looks like :).

Anyway…. So last week I had the pleasure of eating lunch at a Mexican restaurant called Acambaro. Let’s just say YUM!

Funny story about Acambaro, way back when (like 2008 maybe) there used to be one of these restaurants close to where I worked and we’d go there at lunch time. The owner of the restaurant would wait on our table a lot and one day, he handed me a business card with his cell phone number on it. I have to admit, I’ve seen stuff like that happen in novels and movies, etc, but that was the first and only time I’ve ever had that happen in real life. I’m not sure if the same guy owns this one that owned that way… but anyway….

Anyway back to this particular Acambaro. Like most Mexican restaurants you start out with chips and salsa. We also ordered cheese dip.

One taco away…

I’ve read a lot of blog posts written by more famous people than me (and that’s definitely not hard to be!) who say I should put three things to try at this place or the name of this place in the title or something better than One Taco Away… the but story… Jared asked if we wanted Mexican food last week and stated that he was one taco away from speaking Mexican. And no that wasn’t meant to be anything but funny!

He told us he knew of this place that had different Mexican food. Different, how? was the question. Really it was friggin awesome! So now, the food eaten at Lalo’s Taqueria…

And if you knew my daughter, this is the perfect high chair for her!

Unfortunate chain of events landed us here… {Jose Peppers}

A lot of things happened on Monday that landed us here at the end of the day. It was a very frustrating day that I’ll probably, maybe blog about, but until then, why don’t I share food with you because food is a lot more fun than frustrating days. So anyway Monday we wound up eating dinner at Jose Pepper’s in Belton, MO.

Every time we’ve been up here we’ve wanted to try it, just hadn’t yet. It was cool because I couldn’t remember the name of it, but we got off at the Belton exit and started chattering about it. When we went inside, it was like 5:30 at the latest and there was already a 5-10 minute wait. That tells you this place has to be awesome, especially for a Monday. By the time we left the wait was even worse.

They started us with chips and salsa. Hubs loved the salsa, I liked the chips, and Abug liked both. Hey, the kid loves salsa.

So then we were reading through the menu and I landed on an appetizer of Jumbo stuffed Jalapeños just as hubby pointed to it. OMG, I’m sooooooo glad we got these. Now we didn’t know how big they were and the waitress didn’t tell us, so we were only able to eat one a piece and brought the other 2 home. We could have ordered just 2. Fail on the waitresses part… 🙁

Oh where have the words gone?

I’m at a loss for words today. I feel like I have been the last few days. Nothing really unusual or anything, just words have left me and I don’t know how to write. Which is detrimental when trying to write a paper. I gave a presentation, I messed it up, but went and talked to the professor today and told him my take on how I presented and he saw what I said. He didn’t see it that way but he saw what I saw when I explained it.

Recently my husband and I wound up in Pittsburg at lunch time. He asked what I wanted and I suggested the Mall Deli. I had never eaten there but everyone raves about it and it’s funny but the few times I’ve tried to eat there, there have been lines out the door of people wanting to eat there. I wanted to know what all the fuss was about.

Okay… so truth be told, the food was excellent! I had a French dip. I’d go for this over hubby’s and his was excellent! That’s all the words I can come up with. Like I said words have left me. The bun, YUM. The meat, YUM! The dipping sauce. The chips. I didn’t eat the pickle 🙂
