Mudslide Cake (It’s a Birthday Thang!)

Today is my Mother-in-Law’s birthday. Happy Birthday, Memaw. Yes, we all call her Memaw which confuses some people. There’s actually a little confusion that goes along with that.

  1. My mother-in-law (MIL) was 35 when she had my husband. She was an “older” mom just like my mom was. (My mom was 28 for her first and only). When we all call her Memaw, people sometimes confuse her for being my husband’s grandma. I’m not totally sure why because I don’t think that’s possible!
  2. We all call her Memaw so when people call her by her real name, they don’t know who we’re talking about.

This year, we’ve been attempting to get together with my husband’s family at least once a month. It hasn’t totally happened, but we’ve tried. We just get together, have dinner, and play games. I think we’ve missed a couple months, but at least we’re trying. Family is important.

Last month (August) we got together the last weekend of the month to celebrate Memaw’s birthday. I guess I (hubby and I really) forgot we had Tbug Labor Day weekend (note to self… every even year we have her :)), so we wanted to get together to celebrate Memaw’s birthday when she (Tbug) was around. We won’t be in town the next weekend we have Tbug, so it seemed like we’d celebrate early instead of late.

Now if there’s another thing I can tell you about my MIL, she loves a good Mudslide. So with my Cake excursions this year, I went in search of a good Mudslide recipe. When I didn’t find what I wanted, I set out to make my own. And that’s just what I did. I made a Mudslide Cake in honor of my MIL. (more…)

Memorial Day Weekend 2017

Memorial Day Weekend was spent at Beaver Lake. The night before we left to go down there, Deb and Grady said they were having difficulty getting all the trailers down so we volunteered to pull the dive trailer down for them. When we got to the lake, I had to giggle at the “big” truck pulling the little trailer. It’s a bathroom cleaner thing for campers but that sight just made me giggle so hard.

These 3 are back together again. Wow, did they make quite the team… they are the next round of shenanigan makers!

All Dogs go to Heaven

Dogs are about the most loyal companion you will find. Sadly, my Mother-in-law last her’s last night. So technically Santa brought Cowgirl to Tbug when she was 3 or 4 (Tbug was 3 or 4 not Cowgirl), but this dog was my MIL’s dog. She lived with my MIL. My MIL spoiled her rotten. And even though my MIL always claimed that was Tbug’s dog… we all secretly knew that that was Memaw’s dog.

Memaw was torn up. She told hubby that was her best friend. She couldn’t bury her so hubby and I went over to bury Cowgirl for her. Hubby nor Memaw could call and tell Tbug so I volunteered. Some days it is rough being the adult. I’m not really sure if it even affected Tbug. I couldn’t tell via the phone. I offered to come pick her up so she could help us, but her mom said that she had bball practice and couldn’t come.

Then the next task is explaining to a toddler what happened. Have I mentioned it’s rough being an adult, especially the parent. Dogs though, they’re the best and remember All Dogs Go To Heaven because they’re so great.

Easter 2017

One tradition I really wanted to keep is getting pictures with Santa and the Easter Bunny at the respective holidays. So far Abug still hates the Easter Bunny. This year Tbug happened to be with us when we went to see the Easter Bunny. She’s old enough I wasn’t going to make her get in the picture, as you may notice from how she’s dressed (just regular clothes) but Abug threw such a fit that we conned Tbug to be in the photo to keep Abug happy. We never did get Abug to smile, but this isn’t bad I guess….

Mom bought Easter cookie cutters and asked that I make her some Sugar Cookies to take to work. This is what she got. Not bad I guess, right? Please tell me they’re good 😀.

Da Bull

Well… Saturday didn’t go the way we planned…. Here’s the story….

My dad was sent out of town for work and wasn’t sure when he was going to come home. No big deal. Friday morning I woke and went to my Mother-in-Law’s to water cows, what I do most days. When I got there, a few of the cows were at the stock tank, the mosied off and the bull came over. We’ve had this bull now for about a year. He was supposed to be a show bull but they decided not to show him and we bought him instead so he’s not really afraid of anything. I just knew he was up to no good for some reason but I couldn’t place a finger on it.

Later that morning I got a text message from my MIL saying the bull was out. Not a big deal except I was 20 some miles away so I jumped in the truck and headed that direction as fast as I could get there. I got there, we got him in, and I went back to what I was doing.

With a Moo Moo here and a Moo Moo there….

Being as though it is winter, we can’t leave an automatic waterer hooked up to the stock tank. This is the first week that the cows have been at my MIL’s house. So far, so good. Every day we go over, check on cows, fill the water, and just make sure it’s all overall good.

Plans are a couple times per week to feed them range cubes and haul hay over just to make sure, but look at that grass. I swear it’s almost waist high on me and I’m 5’7″ with most of that in my legs. It’s lovely.

Yesterday however, we pulled into my MIL’s house and didn’t find the cows. Dad got a little worried, so he opened the gate and we drove off into the pasture. We found them all the way at the back of her land. No big deal. We had a bag of range cubes so we went ahead and fed them the bag.

Now here’s the funny part of the story… As I went to pull back out of the gate into my MIL’s yard I hit a huge pile of wet cow poop, spun out, and slung poop everywhere. I’m surprised my dad didn’t get in the truck covered because I covered the gate and he was standing there by the gate. Whoops. Otherwise, all good so far!!

Our New Year’s Eve

New Year’s Eve I woke up thinking about the Beer Cheese Fondue we had the year before. We didn’t have any plans so I asked hubby if he’d be interested in doing that. He said sure. I also asked my parents, grandma, and mother-in-law. Low key and good food. We had to get up early the next morning so it was perfect for us. (and yes, I was in bed by like 10:30… I’m in my 30’s 😉)

I also saw this on facebook and laughed. It’s probably true…
