Daylight Savings Time

I’m sitting here being grumpy about Daylight Savings Time. Probably not for the same reason as most people though… My annoyance is from all the people whining and crying and complaining that oh dear, we moved an hour of daylight to the evening. Oh heaven forbid. I get so darn annoyed this time of year. The funny thing is they don’t complain when it’s lighter in the evenings. No, everyone seems to thoroughly enjoy it, but that still doesn’t seem to make them quit complaining.

In the fall when they get that hour of sleep back, well they still moan and groan and complain. Oh no, we don’t have that extra daylight and the evening gets dark so fast. I just want to point out that they are probably the ones who complained in March that they got that extra daylight at the end of the day.

I was told that one time they tried to stay on daylight savings time all year round. That didn’t work. The mornings were way to dark for school age kids. That’s also one complaint that people have when we have daylight savings time kick in. I guess I just get grumpy from all the complaining.

I’m not a morning person. I never have been and that first day sucks… maybe even that first week… but I say… shit happens… move on. I get up and go. I almost avoid Facebook right around then because everyone has an opinion and they are complaining about something. I kind of hate social media most days because of that. I’m glad we all have opinions! I truly am. So now I’m complaining about people complaining. You’re welcome.

I guess I’ll shut up and go enjoy my extra evening light hours. Btw, we don’t technically get more sun during the 24 hour period (other than we are gaining because we’re headed toward the summer solstice), it just shifts :). And while people say that it is an outdated practice… Only 2% of the population are ranchers and farmers… that’s still 3.2 million people affected by that roughly. Just food for thought. Enjoy your Sunday!

Fear Rules

I show up every day, even multiple times per day and lately am unsure what to write. I start filling the blank white page with garble that’s rumbling around in my head and then I refuse to hit publish for fear. Fear of being judged. Fear of no one reading. Just… Fear.

I have another post sitting in my drafts, titled just that… Fear Rules. I was afraid to post it. I want to say the right words where I don’t sound pretentious. I’m not. If you knew me in person… I would hope I don’t come across that way. I don’t think I do…. Someone, please verify for me!

But fear. Sometimes fear rules. Last year my goal was to work on being happier. There were a lot of days that was a struggle. Life is hard. Wouldn’t it be nice if life was easy? I mean seriously think about that… but if it was so easy, would we get bored? Just a thought… Kenzie just made the comment that life is interesting. I told her to second that and she said she could probably third it even. (more…)

#BlogJanuary

This may not interest anyone else but me, but I wanted to keep track. That’s just how it goes :).

In January this year, I wrote 9 blog posts. That is down from previous years, but I still absolutely LOVE this blog. I write blog posts in my head on a daily basis. Usually, it is when I’m driving down the road and can’t actually blog… In college, I used to write great blog posts… in the shower. I decided then I needed to come up with a writing system that withstood water. Btw, being a farmer, I know that one exists. I went to our local farm store and they have a paper/pencil system that allows you to write in rain.

Now the question is, why would you need to write in rain as a farmer? Well, what if you have a baby calf born. What if you gave one a vaccination to help them with something. What if this what if that. It is always best to write yourself notes so you can keep them in case you need the information later. i.e. birthdates. So they have created a paper system farmers can keep on them that won’t disintegrate when wet and will get those notes from the fields to the house. Very cool, right? Why didn’t I think of all of this? Oh, wait, I did.

Anyway…Back to blog posts… Here are the top 5 blog posts as viewed by readers. The Honorable Mentions catch us up to the top 5 2018 posts 🙂

Tuesday Things

Hey guys, Happy New Year! I saw this post on Facebook this morning and giggled…

The hashtag made me giggle even more. It’s no secret around here, I’m not a fan of January. I’m sorry. And maybe I giggled so much because that picture summed it up… although it’s off a page for women after 50. I’m not 50 yet. I think (don’t quote me) I’m 34. I may or may not be. Most days I’m not sure how old I am but I can tell you my birthday, does that count? (more…)

Top 10 Posts of 2017

I can’t believe we’re on the last day of the year. Just the other day I was playing around with Google Analytics and I found just the thing I was looking for. I’m pretty sure I started doing the Happy Dance! I know I yelled giddily (word??) and my husband looked at me like I had lost my mind. I get excited when I figure things out I guess. So when I got it figured out I was so happy.

Anyway here are the top 10 posts from 2017. I was a little surprised at the ones that made the list.

Talking/Feeling like an Idiot

DEMA entrance at the Orange County Convention Center

While we were in Orlando, gosh 2 weeks ago, I had an opportunity to speak with a lot of professionals in the SCUBA diving industry. Not only did we stop and have a visit with our SCUBAPRO Rep, Scott, but we spoke with guys from SDI, the SCUBA diving group that we are certified through.

Plus, Deb paid a little extra for the two of us to be able to sit in on any and all session conferences. Let’s just say, I spoke with diving professionals from all over the world. I remember Australia, Denmark, Fiji, Mexico, and some places I can’t even remember.

Deb and I played a game for the opportunity to win a trip to Fiji. I doubt I won that… especially because it’s been two weeks and they haven’t notified me. They did contact me through email to tell me about some really great packages they offer. We’ll add that to my bucket list along with Greece. I want to go to Greece, so why not dive while I’m there.

I hit up the dive master’s that we dive with in Cozumel for pictures (he’s owed me since May), a recipe (which he rattled off but I couldn’t write down so he said he’d email… still waiting), and told him I wanted a sponsor for the underwater photography festival in April (worth a shot, right?).

But the one thing that really bothers me is… When I was talking to one of the guys from SDI, I felt like a complete moron. When I walked away from the conversation I felt like I was trying to impress him with my blog/SEO/etc knowledge that I probably don’t have.

Quick Update on Last Week

Prepared for learning with donuts, muffins, coffee, and notebooks.

Hey guys! I just got back from an incredible week in Orlando Florida. Why was I there? Well, for a big SCUBA diving convention called DEMA. Wow, this place was extremely overwhelming. We flew out Monday morning from Kansas City Monday. It was a direct flight from Kansas City to Orlando. Getting a rental car in Orlando is extremely easy! Almost as easy as when we got it in Las Vegas a few years ago.

That night we were just there for fun. Deb and Grady had a SCUBAPRO Platinum meeting to go to on Tuesday, so hubby and I just bummed around Orlando. Wednesday through Friday we attended DEMA, classes, and ate excellent food. Wow, the food!

A Fruit I Dislike and Why | Blogging 30

Cantaloupes

I can’t stand cantaloupe. There is a weird sweet smell of it. I’m not sure. I wish I knew why I didn’t care for it, but I never have. I once mixed it in a fruit cocktail, mainly because I didn’t want it going bad. It made the rest of the fruit taste like it and I was able to get by with the taste… but to this day, I can’t stand this fruit. Sorry poor Cantaloupe.
