I'm In L. O. V. E. – Love!

Spread the love

So remember back to that Day Zero Project I keep bugging you guys with…

I’ll wait while you rack your brain

[cue jeopardy music here…..]

Yup still waiting… It’s ok, I have patience (sometimes)

Oh good you remember!

Yeah Sorry about that but one of the things was to blog about all my feats!

So anyway this is another one!

It was listed under Financial and where it really isn’t anything to do with my Finances per say… it does b/c I had to save money!  Oy!  In this day and age, Good Luck with that!

Anyway, moving on!

So as you’ve probably heard before or read somewhere or maybe you don’t know but you’re about to find out, I swear my whole life I’ve had a camera in my hand.  It started when I was probably 5-7 (latest back memory I think I have) with my old 110mm camera.  That’s the type of film it took, you know those big black long roll looking things.  Anyway That’s what I had.  It was bright red.  I wish I had a picture of it, but I don’t.  But it was sooooooooooo cool!  Well by those standards it was, I think kids now days would think I was nuts for being so excited… 🙁 oh well!

So then I progressed up to using my dad’s 35mm camera (both of them), and then on to a Polaroid.  You know the ones that spit out the images Right On The Spot!  Eventually I went to the Kodak Advantix and I loved that camera so much!  It went everywhere with me and when My first one died, I got a second one.  In fact I still have it somewhere but it got dropped and the back display, well it doesn’t work so well anymore.  I also learned that bug spray that is 100 proof will eat away at the plastic… and on watches, but that’s another story for another time!

So finally in college my parents bought me a Nikon Coolpix Digital Camera.  I don’t know why but I hated that camera.  The memory card was so small on it that I couldn’t hardly take any photos and downloading them on your computer was a PITA!  But alas, I finally changed my tune when I got a memory card reader and a bigger card the year I graduated college.  I was in heaven!  In fact I took over 500 pictures when I went to NYC that year.  Then I lost the stupid battery charger for it and she laid dead for over a year until I found it again, but by that time I’d moved on to a Canon Point and Shoot.  Scratched the lens on it and alas bought this gem…

This is the beauty I had for a little over a year.  Other than she ate batteries like they were skittles, I loved it.  In fact she had a perfect spot in my purse.
When I met back up with PC I had access to this little thing here!  Small, sleek, slim… She’s a real beauty too!  In fact she accompanied him in Afghanistan.  Then she even went on our honeymoon with us.  So light weight and easy to fit in your pocket.  It’s about the size of a credit card.  But again I’m getting off the point…. Shoot (yes pun intended sorry)

Just after I met back up with PC I signed up for a photography class.  It’s sad to say but before this class I wasn’t aware of what a dSLR was.  Oh the horror!

But this, this thing became my pride and joy!  I’ve had more fun with this in the last  year!  It is a Canon Rebel XS.
It’s a fairly basic model but that doesn’t matter.  I’ve learned a lot!

Then as a wedding present we acquired this… The telephoto lens.
looking here the 18-55mm lens looks roughly the same size as the 70-300mm lens

But stand them on edge and you’ll see a difference!

So as you can see, I was basically a Canon girl.  PC was a Nikon boy.  They usually say you are one or the other.  I can see that, they are the same but different.  So when I signed up for my photography class Evelyn was there too and she bought a Nikon D5000.  To say I was envious, really I wasn’t because I had my dSLR too.  But I did take a couple photos with her camera.  It was nice, but it wasn’t basic either so that’s to be expected.

Well PC being a Nikon fan he really wanted a Nikon dSLR.  I wanted to upgrade my Canon dSLR… decisions decisions.  And the sucky part, if we changed, you can’t interchange lenses :(…

Well one of my 101 in 1001 was to get an upgrade to my dSLR, Enter Craig’s List.  I love Craig’s List!  When you own things, you don’t want anymore or have no need for, it’s a great place to get rid of them because someone always wants something!  I got enough money to get my upgrade!  And what did I go with, a Nikon. haha…

She is a Nikon D5000

and I’m in LOVE!

I played with it Monday night when we got it and absolutely LOVE it!

She came with the basic 18-55mm lens so now maybe I should amend my list and say buy bigger lens, ha!  I’ll bet in the 2 days we’ve owned it, between PC and myself we’ve taken over 200 photos.  And you have to remember we both work so this is after we get home. haha and when we get home it’s already getting dark.

And we have pictures like the following but not limited too:
And since we are friends, please don’t judge the way I look.  This was late at night and I was ready for bed!
Audrey was helping me type on my computer 🙂

Whoa I’m a ghost!

He said smile, I was being ornery…

When you get really bored, you photograph your legs apparently.

We have had so much fun playing around with the settings on this camera and trying to figure it all out.  Now who wants a photoshoot?  We need victims helpers to pose for us.

Oh and the biggest decision, keep the Canon, upgrade the Canon or sell the Canon and lenses and buy another Nikon.  Decisions Decisions……..

Oh and if any of you want this fine piece of artwork here, framed, matted and signed please by all means contact me!  I won’t charge you your next born child… LOL

Peace, Love and weirdness (on my part)

Nicole

  1. Haha! You're too funny. As you know I've been desperate to have for the rebel forever. I never thought of craigslist or ebay – sometimes I think they're shady & they scare me but holy cow did you guys SCORE!

I dunno enough about photography to give you advice but either way something tells me your blog posts are gonna have a lot more pics! Yay! LOL

P.S. – Erm, if you DO decide to sell the Rebel – lemme know how much you want! LOL

  2. Ooh!! I have the Nikon D60 but that D500 looks AMAZING!

I really need to invest in some lenses… oh, and learn how to use my danged thing!

  3. You are hilarious – I love reading your blogs, it always puts a smile on my face!
If you aren't going to use the Canon, maybe you should try and sell it and the lens to get new lens for your Nikon! Just a thought….

  4. LOL! Glad you got something you both love. I got nuttin' on what you should do in regard to the other camera, but I'd say sell it and get another Nikon, so you can trade and interchange accessories!
I love to take pics as well and even though I'm not that great at it, I still have fun!

  5. I had the Nikon cooplix and hated it! I finally upgraded to the Canon Rebel XSI and love it! I just wish I could afford a new lens or two.

  7. I have a Nikon D40 and I am so in love with it, yet I have a littler camera to take with me on the outings when I dont want to take out such a large camera.

Ps. Other than she ate batteries like they were skittles, I loved it. Made me LOL!!!!

  8. Too funny!! I am looking into telephoto lenses…any suggestions for my Rebel? How did you like the 75-300? I was also looking at the 55-250 IS…Help, help!

  9. Have a former friend who works for Nikon and I could have bought lens through him, but all in all my trials, Canon results were better. So I am a “Canon” girl. I LOVE my canon cameras. Here is my equipment:
    *Canon 7D (new this year)
*Canon 20D (had since it came out)
    *EF-S 18-55mm (20D kit lens)
*EF 28-135 USM IS (two of these, one was 7D kit lens)
*EF 70-200 f/2.8 USM IS (spendy, but oh so worth it)
*420EX Flash — wish I had a different flash that can be used off camera, this one cannot
    *Remote: TC-80N3
*2x II EF extender (awesome with 70-200 lens!!)

We bought The Offspring a Canon Powershot SD1100
