Pensacola Beach Eats: Red Fish Blue Fish

How many people can say they travel 10 hours or so from home and eat lunch with friends from your area? *raises hand*

So one of our friends is from Florida, not exactly sure where. His girls went to Florida for the summer to spend time with their mother and families down there. He just so happened to be headed down to pick them up around the same time we were headed down for vacation, so it was time for a friends meet up 10 hours away.

We decided to meet up at Red Fish Blue Fish which was right there on Pensacola Beach. I thought it was cool that it looks like the building is made of old shipping containers. Then I went onto the website and found out that the entrance was made of old wooden planks that were from an old Coca Cola warehouse north of Pensacola. Then they verified that the building was in fact re-purposed shipping containers. So there ya have it.

Pensacola Beach: Holiday Inn Resort

Oh hi, I’m home from vacation. Oh… you didn’t know I was on vacation? Well, I may have kind of omitted that. I didn’t want someone to break into my house while I was gone…. haha! Yeah, we’ll go with that. Or maybe I was a little worried to wish my summer away to get to vacation because that means I’m just days away from school starting and I’m really worried about that, to be honest with you! Either way, whatever, I’m home!

I only took a little over 500 photos in 5 days. That’s a little over 100/day on average. Definitely less than the 2,500 photos we took in Hawaii, but as I continue to weed through the photos… I’ll leave you with the hotel we stayed at while on vacation.

When our plane arrived we had a car service waiting for us to pick us up and take us to the hotel. My parents were on a different flight and they had to pick up the rental car, the rental car company wouldn’t allow us to, so that’s when hubby and my mom found this company and had a service waiting to pick us up. I would recommend if you need a ride from the airport via car service to use Pensacola Airport Shuttle.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Resort. It was great.

Our room was on the 8th floor. There were 3 elevators so we rarely had to wait long for one. We were up high enough we had a pretty darn good view. And the hotel has 11 floors. Some rooms are Oceanside with balcony’s, the others are bayside with just a normal window view. We were bayside. Hey, we weren’t in our room all that much! (more…)

Multiple Stories – We’ll call it confession Friday :)

I really like stories, so today I have quite the story for you :).

Back in 2009 I had a big group of friends that got together every month and we referred to ourselves as The Dinner Club. Our goal was to go to local restaurants that weren’t chain restaurants. Usually we liked Business Casual or dressier but we made a few exceptions every now and again. Okay so one night we went to Bayou. This was like in May.

Okay now jump forward, I think to October that year…. Hubby had moved home from Ft. Campbell and it was my dad’s birthday. We thought it might be fun to take him to eat for his birthday at Bayou but we didn’t want to tell him where we were going. I jumped in the driver’s seat, had him get in the passenger seat and everyone else got in the truck. Then we drove to Monett. He asked me where we were going and for some reason we all said, Mazzio’s in Monett.

So Mazzio’s in Monett has been the joking answer for a long time to a lot of What’s for Dinner questions.

Now we’re in the year 2015, my dad has recently gotten a new job, and when Tbug found out it was in Monett she said, “So we can meet grandpa for lunch at Mazzio’s in Monett.”

Last week Tbug was with us from Wednesday evening through Sunday evening so I thought it would be fun to drive down and meet up with my dad for lunch. I mentioned it to my mom and she was game because she likes Mazzio’s so it was set.

Our Monday that Was

Recently I have shared with you Wednesday nights, Thursday evenings, Friday day, Friday night, Saturday, Sunday, so why not keep with the theme and share last Monday with you. Is it anything spectacular, no, probably not but it is what it is. That and last night I got to see Dancing with the Stars live and I’m too tired to think of anything else to blog about… so you get last Monday.

Mom woke me up at 7:30am. Yes, that’s not early, but when you haven’t slept much because you can’t get comfortable and your husband snores, you make up for it in the mornings. Abug and I thought it would be fun to go with mom to Springfield shopping so she woke up around 9 while I was fixing my hair. I put on CMT because she loves listening to music and that entertained her while I was getting ready.

Mom came and got us and we were finally off. Then it was time to go shopping. While mom was trying clothes on, Abug was entertaining herself in the mirror. (Don’t worry I was there with her, she wasn’t just left in front of the mirror ;)).

After we went shopping we went to lunch. One of my favorite places to eat is Zio’s. There are so many good places to eat in Springfield and we always migrate to Zio’s. We were being mean sending hubby pictures and messages that that is what we were having for lunch. I jokingly told my mom I should take hubby some of the Tomato Florentine soup home for dinner. Then I said I needed to get 2 so that I’d have something to eat too…. Mom took me serious and ordered Chicken Parmesan, 2 cups of soup and Tiramisu for dessert for us. Thank you mom, we love you!!

Fish City Grill and a Girls Day Out

What do you do when it’s been raining for almost a week straight and you finally get a reprieve in the weather? Sunny and 80’s+=Girls Road trip!

Friday morning my mom sent Abug and me a message and asked if we wanted to go to Springfield for the day. I suggested going to Rogers instead and she was good with that. On my way to my parents house I wondered if Tbug would be able to go too and we could just make it a girls day so I got a hold of her mom (especially since it was our weekend to have her) to see if it’d be possible to get her early and it was. Score! We picked her up and made a day of it!!

So when we got to Rogers to the mall area we love to go to it was time for lunch. Normally we go to 1 of 2 places, Fish City Grill or PF Changs. This time around we chose Fish City Grill. I surprised Tbug that I chose this place. I only chose it for the dessert and I’m not a big dessert person… does that tell you something? (Mom’s not pictured because she refuses to be in photos…)

While we were waiting to place our order we took some selfies to send to Dad (hubby) just to be ornery since he was stuck in doors at work today. Shame on us, we’re mean, but it was oh so fun!

Christmas Day

So I feel like Christmas (Christmas Eve) was a whirlwind this year. Not only did it cyclone in but dang, it went away as fast as it came in :(. That makes me sad. I was a bit of a scrooge this year and I don’t really know why. Anyway we woke up at 7am to start opening presents. So Brittin sent me this picture and said her husband caught Santa making an appearance at their house…

He made an appearance at our house too though. There were 3 cookies on that plate when we went to bed and half a cup of milk. (more…)

Our First Night Apart

This blog is for a lot of things and one thing is to document our life together. My husband and I have experienced a lot of things together and it is so much fun to sit down and take a gander back. Now obviously not everything is on here because with every blog, there is a certain part of your life you don’t share… But here’s a sharing moment.

Monday night was hubby and my first night away from Baby Squirrel (or baby girl, whichever). Here’s how it started:

A week ago Tuesday I turned in a rough draft on one of my papers for Research Methods. It’s about The Rape of the Lock, a poem by Alexander Pope, but that’s beside the point (one last point… I’m not crazy about that poem.. okay done now). I had to go into the school early on Tuesday, earlier than normal for a conference on my paper so I made arrangements for my mom to take baby girl a bit earlier so that I could make it to the school on time.

So Monday when I picked baby girl up from my grandma (her great grandma) hubby and I had plans to meet up at my parents when he got off work. We had discussed it the night before about seeing if mom and dad wanted a sleep over with baby girl, so that I could have Tuesday to work on some homework. He didn’t think I could do it…

So I walked into my parent’s house on Monday and asked my mom to tell me if she didn’t want to, but would she be able to have a sleep over with baby girl and hubby would pick her up on Tuesday night like normal.

You’d have thought I gave my mom a million dollars. She told me she thought wouldn’t get the option until baby girl was in high school and could make her own decisions.

Before hubby and I left my parents house I hugged and kissed and hugged and kissed baby girl. Mom said she felt like she was prying baby girl away from me. Then I handed her to my mom, one last kiss and left for the evening. Told my parents if they needed anything to holler, I’d be over in a heart beat and I don’t speed. lol. Then I left.

Don’t worry, I cried pretty much all the way home and even once I got home.

OMG I’m turning into my parents

It’s funny… the chain of events that happen in your life. The way that the world goes round. Evolution if you want to go there… whatever you want to call it, life is weird!

You are a baby and a young kiddo and you think your parents are the grandest. Then you get pre-teens through your teenage years and you start looking at your parents like they are crazy and aliens and everything else.

Then you get into your 20’s and your parents are your friends and become cool again…

dun dun dun…

Then you have your own family and you turn into your parents.

I realized this tonight when I was repeating “sleep sack” in a funny voice saying how much baby girl loves to sleep in her sleep sack. (I don’t know what else to call them… they are fleece things with arms and the bottom is like a sack and they zip in them).  That’s when I had one of those ho crap moments and thought I’m turning into my mother, or what I can only imagine my mother like at my age (maybe not age… maybe point in life).

Now if only I could be the size my mother was at my age! She wore a size 4. I’m not sure I’ve ever worn a 4, not even in my skinny years… ha!

But that’s neither here nor there. Just know, I’m turning into both of my parents in different ways. I guess my parents really are cool. But don’t tell them I said that… lol… we’ll keep that our little secret :).

Happy Friday!

Girls Lunch Out

Earlier today my mom answered a text message I sent her and asked if Peanut and I wanted to have lunch with her. Now obviously I’m the only one who could actually eat with her, but Peanut can have a bottle, right?

I had to run a scholarship application back in to the church so when I left the church mom called and asked where I wanted to go. I told her I didn’t care and she suggested we go eat at the Precious Moments restaurant. I said sure. Now a lot of people have heard of Sam Butcher’s Precious Moments figurines and if you haven’t, they are these awesome figurines that Sam Butcher created. Did you know he’s located in Carthage, MO? Kind of cool information I guess :).

When you enter Precious Moments they have free chapel tours. We walked through to the restaurant/café (whatever I should call it) though because we were hungry. The figurine with the girl and the goose is what started the whole thing. I actually have that figurine. When I was a baby my room was done in Precious Moments wallpaper.

The Horse Chiropractor

If there’s one thing anyone should know, we take excellent care of our horses (and all the other critters too!!). A few years ago KG to majorly hurt. We took him to a vet down in Oklahoma and a few hundred dollar later he was on the road to recovery. Now, KG is 19 years old so he’s starting to push it in horse years, but that still doesn’t mean we can’t/shouldn’t take care of him!

This week dad made an appointment to take him to a Horse Chiropractor/Acupuncturist to see if maybe that was what was making the old man ache so terribly. Friday night was our appointment so we loaded him up in the trailer and headed to the Vet.

When we got there, dad and hubby unloaded KG. Tbug and I walked off just to the side to stay out of the way and this huge fat cat came to greet us. At one point the cat bit me which made me jump and laugh, apparently we weren’t paying enough attention to him… lol.

If you see the lines on KG right around his ribs, that was the acupuncture point. The vet was drawing all the lines to make sure everything lined up where it belonged.
