The 36 Hour Road Trip – Go Chiefs!

Wow, now that was a 36 hour road trip.

Did you hear? The Chiefs made the Playoffs. If you didn’t hear that… THE CHIEFS MADE THE PLAYOFFS! And hubby and I got an opportunity this last weekend to go to the Playoff game in Houston Texas against the Houston Texans.

Everything worked out where we could, so we said, sure, why not! We road on a bus down with the Red Coaters. It was an invitation only bus. A red coater had to invite you onto the bus basically for you to have a seat. We just so happen to know a few of them and were invited. The bus left KC and picked 9 of us up in Joplin on their way through (saved us from having to drive to KC! yey!). They picked us up at 10:30pm Friday night bound for Houston.

New Year’s Day

New Year’s Day the last couple years has been spent diving. I have yet to dive on New Years but that’s besides the point! I seriously debated it this year, but in the end, I didn’t. I’m a chicken I guess or maybe I’m smart… you decide.

I’m not the best passenger in a vehicle. I sat near the middle of the bus and decided sleeping was best for me. Deb has been sick and Rachele I guess was tired? I didn’t ask :).

Pete decided he wasn’t staying home. They tried to get him off the bus, but he wasn’t having it. This was really the maiden voyage of the bus since it’s been in our possession (except the trip to the gas station…) and Pete wasn’t about to miss out on the opportunity to ride on the bus and go to the lake.

When we stopped for breakfast, he curled up in the drivers seat. He was just keeping it warm for Jared.

After the December flooding, this is what the lake looked like. Hubs said it had about 2-3 foot visibility if that.

Chiefs Bus Maiden Voyage

Sunday the Chiefs Bus made it’s Maiden Voyage to Kansas City for the Kansas City Oakland game. Originally the game was supposed to be a noon game but because of the way the season went, the NFL changed it to a 3pm game. We loaded up on the bus and headed for Kansas City so we could tailgate at 8am. Yup, we’re kinda crazy like that. Our bus holds 15 people and every seat was full.

Gates opened to the stadium at 11, they let us in a bit early like they usually do… we entered at 10:45. This time, we tailgated with food leftover from the New Year’s Day dive, Gumbo and Taco Soup. The gumbo was made from leftover shrimp that was frozen from the lake at the Safari Hunt. Now… If you know me, I’m not huge on fish at all, so the gumbo was a bit fishy tasting to me, but it wasn’t bad. We added Smoked sausage (which was good) and mushrooms. It wasn’t bad at all. I didn’t try the Taco soup because I don’t like anything but green beans when it comes to beans. I know, I might be crazy!

Ringing in 2016 Fondue Style {Plus 2 recipes!!}

Right around New Years, I kept seeing different funny signs going through the Facebook world about how people ring in the New Year in their teens, their 20’s, their 30’s, and so on. I have to say, we had a very low key New Years but it was awesome and that’s all that matters.

Karen and Jared invited us over to their house for Fondue. We did an appetizer of Cheese Fondue, then a broth to cook chicken, beef, onions, mushrooms, and potatoes. Now… New Year’s Day we were going to the New Years Day Dive and after dinner, we decided we should have brought our stuff to stay the night at Karen and Jared’s house instead of driving home after midnight and coming back over at 7 am. So hubby and I left the girls with them and ran to our house, grabbed a quick shower and our clothes, and then went back to Karen and Jared’s house.

Now we had plans to do a chocolate fondue for dessert and dip blueberries, bananas, rice Krispie treats, and brownies in. We got the brownies made but that was the extent of it. So we ate brownies for dessert.

While we were getting the appetizer cheese fondue done, we noticed this really long curly hair on hubby’s back. We gave him such grief about that. Yes, it was mine, but it was fun to tease him!

Tbug’s 13th Birthday

I now officially have a teenager on my hands. Holy cow how did that happen? Tbug has been in my life since she was 6 1/2 years old and now she’s a teenager.  The first night I met her she called me her dad’s girlfriend. The next night she was using Memaw’s car hood as a slide and when I said she might not want to do that, I was basically told to mind my own business (not in those words). A lot has changed in 6 1/2 years, a lot!

And sadly I suck these days at taking pictures. I’m not sure what that’s all about… So the big things… Tbug turned 13. We celebrated her birthday on the 1st since this was her mom’s birthday. I heard she was having a sleepover at her mom’s and making her own birthday cake… red velvet with cream cheese icing.
