Hay!

The other night I was sitting in the house doing homework. Between reading and studying I was about to go nuts. Hubby had taken Abug outside with him, so I snuck outside to see what they were up to; that’s when I heard the tractor running. We lucked out, some really good friends of ours brought us their tractor over (plus mower, second tractor and baler, Thank you Jared & Karen!) to do some fall haying. Our mower is broken (again).

I looked out in the field where the tractor noise was coming from and they were moving the other bales off the field from the summer cutting.

Boones BBQ Barn – Bolivar, MO

While I’m trying to get the words exactly right for a post on what I did last Friday (It was a fabulous day!) let’s start with where we ate and what I ate. I mean truthfully, food sometimes is a draw, right? We always joke with our Scuba Diving crew, if there’s food, they will come… Well… there might be some truth there.

Friday lead me to Bolivar, Missouri, to tour the local farming community with Missouri Women Bloggers and Missouri Farm Bureau. Rebecca from the MO Farm Bureau contacted us about touring local farms in Southwest Missouri. While we were out she chose a place for us to eat lunch, which happened to be Boones BBQ Barn in Bolivar. Then a special thanks to David Cribbs for contacting Bank of Bolivar to host us for lunch (a special thanks to them for buying our lunch! That was extremely nice and truly unexpected! Thank you!). And what better place to eat for a Farm Tour than at a BBQ Joint! Can I get an Amen?

Dad’s Birthday

My dad’s birthday was Friday. Does it seems sad that all I have are stories and pictures of food? Just a thought….

Yup, dad’s birthday was Friday. Dad had to work. Hubby had to work. And if you want to call what I was doing work, I did too… although I don’t. More on that to come!

Anyway I made plans to get Tbug so she could be there for dad’s birthday dinner. Turns out her mom and {step}dad were eating at the same place we were, Texas Roadhouse, so she just road there with them and I went and got her from inside the restaurant. hehe. Hey don’t knock it, she got to see grandpa on his birthday and that’s what matters.

Abug had stayed with mom on Friday since I had prior plans for the days adventures so she rode over to the restaurant with grandma, grandpa and Grandma J (great grandma). They were there when we got there. I ran in and got Tbug and we were all present and accounted for :).

They had a guy dressed up as an armadillo, he walked up and stood right next to Tbug and scared her. It was funny and cute.

Our number was called and we went in. Mom gave dad his birthday present right then (ours wasn’t here yet to give him so he’s still waiting). It was a photo frame to hang Tbug’s showing picture on the wall with the rest of them. The only thing he’s really said he wanted. Plus he got a new book, but I don’t know which one. I then ran the stuff out to the truck for them so we didn’t have to sit with it at the table all through dinner.

Next, it was time to eat!

Bread and cinnamon butter. What more could you ask for. really? I mean couldn’t you just make a meal out of that? I guess if not, I can still answer, I can.

FarmFest, Friday’s & a Public Service Announcement

You know… the other day I thought I was one step closer to being famous so I could be on Dancing with the Stars. I don’t really want to be famous, I just really want to be on Dancing with the Stars. Sadly I walked into my comps study group the other day and learned that a guy I had at least 2 classes with didn’t know what my name was. So does that cancel out one person recognizing me in public based off of my blog?  Just a thought/question….

I briefly mentioned in passing that we went to FarmFest on Sunday. Dad was telling us that he went to the first one and it has greatly changed in the last 30 years. While at FarmFest we found Abug new boots. She finally got a pair of Square Toed Boots. Square toed boots became popular when I was in college (the bachelor’s degree round). I SWORE I’d never wear them, they were hideous, etc etc. Now that’s pretty much all I own. We’ve learned on many occasions I like the taste of crow I guess.

Ok this picture… someone has major talent. I can’t even draw a smiley face. My great grandpa came to this country from Greece as an artist and I can’t even draw a smiley face.

How to: Throw a Surprise Party

It’s been a few years since I’ve been involved in a surprise party. If you recall, the last one started Tbug pushing/tripping hubby through a door (okay I might have been involved in that part too….) into a room full of people who were waiting to surprise him.

This time around though, hubby was involved in the planning or at least the execution of the party. Let me paint you a picture.

Hubby got off work and headed to Jared & Karen’s house. They were waiting for Grady to leave the shop so that we could start decorating for the party. Grady thought he was teaching a class at 6:30pm, but really we were having a surprise birthday party for his 60th birthday (which is today).

Finally Jared called and said that his truck broke down again and needed to be towed. Grady left the shop in a hurry. Hubby and Karen were in Hubby’s truck headed the long way to the shop. Deb, Chuck, SW, DW & I started prepping with decorations. When hubby got there he started putting Grady’s present together quickly while Karen jumped in and helped us decorate.

Jared sent Karen a text saying that Grady never drives that fast and he was having to ride his brakes to slow him down. Then they got the guy at the shop they were “towing” Jared’s truck to in on helping to stall Grady.

Food & Fun

Last Saturday the Missouri Governor’s Mounted Guard were back at it and mounted on their trusty steads. Don’t ask me why it is so much fun to say “Trusty Steads.” I think it stems from Shrek when Princess Fiona calls Donkey Shrek’s Trusty Stead until she realizes that Shrek is an Ogre and then Donkey is just a donkey.

Anyway the Guard were helping park cars at a local Bluegrass festival. The day before I really wanted to bake something, so I decided to make Cinnamon Rolls for them since they had to be there early in the morning. Abug helped me make cinnamon rolls until it was her nap time, then she and the cat curled up on my bed and snoozed until I was done with the last pan of cinnamon rolls.

Abug and I were going to head out to the festival and see what the Guard was up to as well as take pictures but we didn’t make it out there. Instead we went to see my grandma for a bit. Later in the afternoon hubby had Karen send me a message and say that they were going to lunch/dinner and did we want to meet them. We decided that sounded like fun. And asked where.

They finally told us a place called JT’s Burgers & Wings in Webb City. I’ve seen this place on my way to school more than once and thought it sounded interesting. So we loaded up the car and headed their direction.

I’m One Step Closer to Being on DWTS

Hi, my name is Nicole and I absolutely LOVE to dance. No joke!

I was in Ballet for 10 years and tap for 5 as a kid. Loved it. Stupid reason I quit. Don’t ask.

My parents also took Country dance lessons so I learned how to 2-step, West Coast Swing, Waltz, etc.

In high school I actually used to teach my guy friends how to 2-step.

Later in life I learned how to line dance and then whatever you call club dancing to that type of music….

Moral of the story, I like to dance and this white girl has some rhythm… even if I can’t walk and chew gum at the same time. (joking… kind of.)

So just last week I was talking to Deb about how some day I need to be famous so that I can be on Dancing with the Stars. She kind of laughed at me. If only they had cameras on at the shop, they’d probably see me dancing around on more than one occasion… haha. (Don’t worry, it’s all G rated, promise!)

Anyway… to be on Dancing with the Stars… you have to be famous. And well…. In case you didn’t know, I’ll let you in on a little secret… I’m not.

Sunday my family went to the FarmFest held up in Springfield and we were walking around.

All the sudden I turned around (don’t know why) and a gal came up and said, “This may sound funny, but do you have a blog?”
Me: “Yes.”
“Is this Abug or Tbug?”
Me: “Yes.”
“I follow your blog. I’m Robbin, I blog at Down on the Farm.”
(Very exciting! I read her blog too!!)

I was soooooo giddy, someone that actually reads my blog and doesn’t know me personally recognized me out in public. How awesome is that?

I was so giddy that I asked if I could take my picture with her. Yup, that’s me… I’m that cool. Hey, at least I wasn’t trying to walk and chew gum at the same time :).

And that is how I know I’m one step closer to being famous so I can be on Dancing with the Stars.

Comps Book List Update

Here it is 9:45pm on a Friday night. Is it sad that I’m home and sitting in bed? Wow, that’s so not how life was even a few years ago… some Friday nights I was getting Mike & Ike’s bounced off my head (lol love you Earl). I had other plans for a post for today, then last night hit and I had an allergic reaction to something. I don’t know what but my lip swelled up huge! It was CRAZY! This is the second time in 2 weeks this has happened. But nothing seems to be the same to cause the reaction. Anyway so I came home and took 2 Benadryl and well…. I fell asleep. I woke up this morning groggy, my lip was still swollen, I took another Benadryl and I was out again. (and no, there are no pictures… well there are but I’m too self conscious to post those on the internet!)

So since this post was written and waiting to be published sometime the beginning of this month, now seems like as good of time as any, especially since I now have 27, almost 26 days until Comps. Maybe… just maybe I’m having an allergic reaction to all the stress from studying for Comps while still taking classes…. Just a thought.

The other day I was camped out in the library between my morning class and waiting for study group. I sat for so long that when I stood up I felt a vibration in my legs. I’m pretty sure it was the blood pumping through my veins again.

Okay so this is the month of doom. I have comps the end of this month. Yes, I know I mention it a lot but I’m kind of freaking out! I have 3 chances to pass and then I don’t know what happens. No pressure or anything.

So basically they pass it out, we answer short answer and essay. Then there is an odd number of American professors and an odd number of British professors (specialty not where they’re from….) who grade it. It’s pass or fail. You have to have majority pass or else… you fail. Again, no pressure.

So anyway I’m doing an update on my list and where I stand… well because if nothing else it helps keep me on track, it gets my cheerleaders screaming for me and whatever…. 4 weeks baby, 4 weeks (or something like that)

365 – September – Photos 1-30 – Take 2

At the end of my last Project 365 I debated if I would do another one or not. Part of me really wanted to and part of me didn’t. I had a few friends encourage me to continue on. So then came the question, do I take a month or 3 months off (3 months = the first of the year… SCARY!). I continued to take a photo every day so if I chose to back date I could.

Then around the middle of the month I decided to just go for it, so here’s round 2 of my Project 365. Wish me luck, especially this fall because… well you know what’s coming up the 29th of this month…. (hint: comps).

1/365 – Addermeister didn’t want me to forget her while I was at school so she gave me the monkey flashlight to take to school with me.

2/365 – Midweek Pancakes. Um… yes please!

3/365 – This little fish LOVES the water. Now this winter she’ll spend time in the hottub and the bathtub so we can keep this love of water up!
