Week 32

How far along? 32 weeks 6 days

Total weight gain/loss: eh I kind of have given up standing on the scales even. It’s just depressing but I have to at my drs appointment today. 🙁

How big is baby? Baby is the size of a squash. Still growing, baby girl weighs in at about 2.5 to 3.8 lb and measures about 15.2 to 16.7 in long.

  • She’s getting ready for her descent – she’s likely in the head-down position now.
  • And she’s probably feeling even more cramped.

Maternity Clothes? Yup, I have maternity clothes. That’s I’m sure all that fits. I wear gym shorts and hubby’s tshirts to bed and my belly shows between the two. So super sexy… not!

Stretch Marks? I saw this earlier this week (don’t remember where) and it made me feel a little better. Now after baby if I could get my stomach to look like this it would be even better! (sorry about the one word, I don’t like that word at all)

Best moment this week? The Ultrasound this week… although I haven’t had it yet. My drs appointment is this afternoon.

Movement? Those kicks and or punches are soooo sweet. Sometimes they are uncomfortable and this week something has been getting jammed into my right ribcage. Hubby read that she’s starting to lose room in there so she is moving less… but It’s hilarious to watch my stomach do the wave.

Food Cravings/Aversions? So I’ve not really had cravings. No more so than before I was pregnant. I have had aversions… steak we learned. and the bacon onion dip mix from the Amish store. So anyway last week hubby had a steak at one point and I was actually able to eat it. I’m still not ready to run out after steak but it wasn’t bad. And I absolutely LOVE steak.

What I miss: Prior to being pregnant there were nights I’d have to get up to pee during the night but otherwise… I could sleep on my stomach and sleep through the night. I kind of miss that but we’re coming back to that… maybe. I might just be in a habit. I also miss not having my hips hurt all the time.

What I’m looking forward to: The Ultrasound this afternoon, obviously and the baby shower on Saturday thrown by 2 of my really GREAT friends!!

Nausea/Vomiting? I’m doing okay this week on this front… Hopefully I don’t jinx myself. Where’s the wood to knock on?!?!

Labor signs? well I don’t think so….

Gender? We have had them verify it’s a girl 3 different times. Think it’s a girl?!?!

Belly Button in or out? It looks like a frigging orange parking cone most of the time.

Wedding rings on or off? Sadly they’re off. I do have the “cheater” ring just so people know I’m married but I want my rings back!

Sleep? The stress of school has been lifted so that hasn’t been a factor. I wake up most mornings feeling like I’ve been run over by a freight train or a mack truck or something, but otherwise I can pretty well sleep through the night, you know minus the bathroom breaks. I have been having weird dreams though, of course I’ve always had weird dreams, I’m just having more of them.

Weekly Wisdom: I think you remove stress and I haven’t really felt like napping during the day although about 5pm I’m ready for bed. I have not been going to bed that early though.

Due Date: Thursday June 26, 2014 was what we originally thought. Then I was told June 30, then July 4th, then June 26, then June 27 and after the 3-D ultra sound June 28. I guess she’ll come when she’s ready, right?

It's for the Birds

So here’s a fun joke I heard last night. What was I doing last night you ask? Well there was a Try it Tuesday and we were sitting eating Dinner. At one point Diver Dan stole my phone and posted this photo on facebook. And poor Doug here, a few months ago I got his cell number without him having mine and I was picking on him. Then they were trying to get ahold of hubby and me last night and he couldn’t find my phone number :).

Side note: It’s always fun to get random numbers (obviously of people you know) and start out with who is this. When they text back and ask who you are, tell them You’re Jake from State Farm 🙂

So anyway Doug shared this joke with me and I wanted to share with you. First off, draw a bird.

Then point at different body parts and ask what those are. ie. What is this? Feet.

What is this? Eye.

What is this? Beak.

Now this one needs to be last and warn the person to keep this in mind. Remember this one!! What is this? Wing.

Then roll the bird up, or in my case I couldn’t do it with a camera in one hand so I got my lovely assistant to help.

Now hand it to the person you were asking what all these body parts were and have them hold it lightly.

Then ask them what the last body part was. When they say wing, you say okay, say that 5 times fast. When they start saying wing, wing, wing, wing, wing you take the paper (napkin whatever) out of their hand and answer it (like a phone) :).

And now you know how to have fun with your friends 🙂  You’re welcome!

Our Kitchen Remake

When we moved into the house, our kitchen had these cabinets. They aren’t bad, they’re just not what we wanted. We priced replacing them but right now it just isn’t in the budget. So for just under 4 years we’ve lived with them. One day while we were walking around Lowes (which you know you’ve grown up when you love wandering around Lowes) we found this cabinet refinisher kit. It was even on sale so hubby and I thought, sure, why not.

Haha, then it sat at our house for a few months. I got pregnant and no one would let me touch the paint and then the fact that I was in school and whatnot and hubby works and it just didn’t work. Then one day we decided it was time to get the cabinets done, especially since we’re having a baby shower here at my house this weekend.

So I went without kitchen cabinet doors for a little over a month. It made it really easy to get stuff in and out of the cabinets but at the same time I really missed my cabinet doors. My mom, father-in-law and husband did the sweetest thing for me and repainted my cabinets for me with this refinisher stuff we got from Lowes.

And botta bing, botta boom.

So I just wanted to show the finished look. We took down the tile backsplash and replaced with faux bricks (I love the brick look) and then we made the cabinets look brand new. I Love my new kitchen. It’s really lightened it up and it’s really dark because remember… I live in a berm house.

Mother’s Day 2014

A couple of days before Mother’s Day this year, hubby and I were at Walmart standing in the checkout line when it dawned on me that I wouldn’t get to see Tbug this year on Mother’s Day. Obviously, she needs to spend time with her mother on Mother’s Day but usually, our weekends fall on Mother’s Day weekend and she tells her mom she wants to see me so she stays a few hours in the morning and then we meet up to take her back to her mother for the majority of the day.

Last fall we swapped weekends someway somehow some reason 🙂 so she wasn’t with us this weekend. When this dawned on me I teared up. Yup, right in the middle of Walmart. Hubby thought it was cute, I thought I was being ridiculous because a girl needs to see her mother on Mother’s Day. I know that.

Strange coincidence, when we got home that night, her mom sent us a message that said she had to work on Mother’s Day and would we like to spend some time with Tbug on Mother’s Day. Heck yeah :). So we picked Tbug up Saturday night. Well, my momma said let’s do Mother’s Day dinner Saturday night so after we picked Tbug up, we met my parents and grandma at LongHorn for dinner. BTW, gotta love call ahead seating! Just saying!

My mom told us all she wanted was Diet Mountain Dew for Mother’s Day. Well, we got her 2 12 packs of that and 2 12 packs of Diet Coke plus we’ve been remodeling our kitchen (post coming soon) and we have under counter lights that she loved so we’re doing that in her kitchen for her as well.

For my grandma, we’ve been fixing up her RV for her and adding the lights to it as well.

Hubby, Tbug and Peanut got me 2 books (that I can read that aren’t school books yeehaw!!! :))

Week 31

How far along? 31 weeks 6 days

Total weight gain/loss: blah blah

How big is baby? Baby is the size of a Pineapple. She’s about 15.2 to 16.7 inches long and weighs 2.5 to 3.8 pounds this month. She’s getting so big, she’s probably crowding your lungs.

  • She’s going through major brain and nerve development
  • Eye development, too. Her irises now react to light!
  • All five of her senses are in working order.

I Can't Dance

I’m not sure what rock I live under, but just yesterday I heard Lee Brice’s new song “I don’t Dance.” It was on the top 4 at 4 on one of of our local Radio Stations. Apparently a lot of people use this song for their wedding song. Yup, guess I’m out of that loop as most of my friends are married… I guess that’s how I missed it anyway because I spend a lot of time in my car every day driving… so you’d think I’d hear it at least once, right?

Anyway I listened to the lyrics. I like the song…

“I Don’t Dance”

I’ll never settle down, / That’s what I always thought
Yeah, I was that kind of man, / just ask anyone

I don’t dance, But here I am / Spinning you around and around in circles
It Ain’t my style, but I don’t care / I’d do anything with you anywhere
Yes, you got me in the palm of your hand / Cause, I don’t dance

Love’s never come my way, / I’ve never been this far
Cause you took these two left feet / And waltzed away with my heart

No, I don’t dance, but here I am / Spinning you around and around in circles
It ain’t my style, but I don’t care / I’d do anything with you anywhere
Yes, you got me in the palm of your hand, girl / Cause, I don’t dance
Ohhh / I don’t dance

Ooh

I don’t dance, but here I am / Spinning you around and around in circles
It ain’t my style, but I don’t care / I’d do anything with you anywhere

I don’t dance, but here I am / Spinning you around and around in circles
It ain’t my style, but I don’t care / I’d do anything with you anywhere
Yeah, you got me in the palm of your hand, girl / Cause, I don’t dance

So this song just made me think of my husband. I know another sappy Nicole post but I can’t help it! When I started talking to and eventually dating my husband, all he would tell me was “I can’t dance.” I called BS on him a lot. I didn’t buy it.

Another conversation we had he told me he never figured he’d find anyone to settle down with. He just didn’t think it was in the cards for him. Again I called BS on that too. I can’t help it, my optimistic side came out I guess :).

Well I’m just here to tell you, the right people fall in love and all that melts away and you can call BS all day because it’ll be true!! This past February we hit 4 year engagement anniversary.

And come this September we’ll hit our 4 year anniversary. And 4 years ago at that time he will have danced with me (as many other times as well!). Sometimes you just have to call BS and if it’s meant to be, they’ll dance with you!

Kentucky Derby Pie

If there has been any question as to why I’ve been stressed these last few weeks… Here is a list of things I had to get done by this Friday. I am excited to announce that I have 2 things left and 2/3rds of another… otherwise this list has been scratched off! I promise I”m not trying to complain!!
//instagram.com/p/nLdoNDJQ1G/embed/

So as you may or may not know, the Kentucky Derby was Saturday. I didn’t get to watch it as I was with Tbug and a whole class of kids working on their pool skills for scuba diving. She’s 2/3rds of the way to being Scuba Certified!!

The kids are doing GREAT!

So anyway back to the Kentucky Derby. Last Thursday night was Dive Club Meeting so I thought it would be fun to make a Kentucky Derby Pie to take for the dinner.

Kentucky Derby Cookie Pie with Bourbon Whipped Cream
adapted from Plain Chicken

Pie
1 regular frozen pie crust (not deep dish)
1/2 cup unsalted butter
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
2/3 cup flour
1 cup finely chopped pecans
1 cup chocolate chips

Bourbon Whipped Cream
1 cup heavy whipping cream
1/4 cup powdered sugar
1 Tbsp Maker’s Mark Bourbon

Preheat oven to 325.

Melt butter, and cool for about 5 minutes.  Combine flour and sugar.  Whisk in melted butter, eggs and vanilla.  Stir in nuts.

Sprinkle chocolate chips on the bottom of the pie crust. Pour pecan mixture over chocolate chips.

Bake for 1 hour.  Serve with Bourbon Whipped Cream.

To make the cream, Whip together heavy cream, powdered sugar and bourbon (I used Jack Daniels because that’s what I had… Kentucky, Tennessee, whatever). Whip at high speed for 1-2 minutes.
