HuHot Mongolian Grill

Here recently, Joplin got a HuHot Mongolian Grill.  So last weekend when my aunt and her friend came up to visit, my mom thought it would be fun to take them to a different place, some place fun.  Since HuHot is new, this was our restaurant of choice.  We all met around 7pm for dinner.

Now, the way HuHot works is once you get your seat and they take your drink order, you walk over to the bar and grab a bowl.  Then you choose your meats, noodles, additional toppings, etc and then grab any sauces from the 39 choices.

Cold Stone Creamery – St. Louis, MO

When we woke up Wednesday morning, we actually finished off our leftover pizza from the night before so by the time we got up and dressed, we just decided to grab ice cream for lunch since we’d be eating dinner earlier in the evening.  There was a Cold Stone Creamery up the road from our hotel, and since we don’t have one close to home, we knew that’s where we wanted to go.

I loved their handle to enter the building. (more…)

P.F. Changs – St. Louis, MO

Before hubby and I were going to see the Broadway Musical, West Side Story, we decided we should grab dinner.  We had a gift card to an Italian restaurant so I plugged that into the GPS and she took us to the restaurant.  We had to park in a parking garage and as we were emerging from the parking area, I started smelling something really good.  It could have been that I was really hungry :).  Anyway, we came out right in front of the P.F. Changs.  I knew hubby was kind of getting tired of Italian and I asked if he’d be interested in P.F. Changs.  He was like…. um… so I knew what that meant and we entered.

One of our favorite things to do here is to get the meal for 2.  You get a starter soup, an appetizer to share, 2 entrees, and 2 mini desserts. (more…)

St. Louis take 3

Tuesday morning we had plans to do the Brewmaster Tour at Anheuser Busch so we got up and got dressed.  They said you had to be there about 15 minutes early, but we wanted to make sure we could find a parking spot.  The other thing is you had to have close-toed shoes on, they checked before they even let you sign in.

After we checked in, hubby and I walked around the museum more to read the signs more in-depth than we did the day before.

Imo’s Pizza – St. Louis Style Pizza

If there’s one thing I told hubby I wanted to try it was St. Louis style pizza.  Now when I went through college, there were a lot of people from St. Louis.  I even became friends with some and they swore by Imo’s for the best St. Louis style pizza.  So I told hubby that not only did I want St. Louis style pizza, but I wanted Imo’s.

Tuesday night we went to the St. Louis Cardinals game and by the time we got out of the game and got back into the neighborhood of our hotel, it was around 11 pm.  Not much is open besides Imo’s and McDonald’s so I was in luck.  I got to try Imo’s!!

We ordered a medium but the guy made us a large.  We got half with Pepperoni, Canadian Bacon,  Mushroom, Black Olive and the other half added onions.  They used red onions and in my opinion, they were a bit strong, but I’m not crazy about onions on pizza anyway.  That was hubby’s half.  But my half was friggin good!! Let the Record Show….

Last Tuesday night hubby and I met at my parents house after work.  Snookums is old enough now that we need to be getting on her and getting the basics done on her.

So far, let me tell you, this beautiful gal is the most laid back, relaxed, easy going horse, but let’s find some wood to knock on so I don’t jinx things up.  Anyway, back to the day at hand….

I got to my parents house before everyone else did so I went ahead and fed all the kiddo’s… aka critters.  They know when it’s feeding time and you better be on feeding them.

Here’s the Colonel.  Isn’t he getting big and pretty?

Once hubby got there, he gave me lots of grief about not having Snookums all saddled up and ridden down.  Um…. Hello, I don’t have a key to the trailer… just saying!

Mudflap was on my side 🙂

And Miss Tulsa, yeah she didn’t care… lol 🙂

But we got off track again a bit.  Now Snookums is a 2 year old.  By horse years, they go by January 1st for their age, but she really turned 2 in July.  Since she was a later baby we held off a bit (too long actually) however if they are born early in the year, you can actually start the ground work on them late, late into their yearling year.

One of the things that we did after we got her saddled was took her into the round pen and made her move around both at a walk and a trot with the added weight of the saddle.  Then we went from side to side placing weight into the stirrups with our hand.  Then we’d make sure someone was on both sides because a horse has monocular vision which means one eye sees one thing and the other sees something different.  (human’s have binocular in case you wondered)

Finally we put a foot into the stirrup and started just jumping around.  Adding weight and then back down to the ground.  I’m sooooo used to getting on a horse from the left (the correct side) that jumping on the right was baffling me just a bit… lol.

Then it was time for someone to lay across her.  Once we got up on her we had to kick our foot out of the stirrup so in case she went banana’s we could easily dismount and not get hung up quite as bad.  When I came off of her like this I did catch my sleeve on the saddle horn and about ripped it, but that’s shear clumsiness on my part.

Anyway, let the record show that I was the first one on her!  Even if it wasn’t quite in riding style 🙂

Oh but wait, I actually rode her.  I got on, had a good enough grip that if she went to bucking I could hold on and then hubby led her around so she could get used to having the weight on her back.

My dad and even my husband, heck even me if we’re being honest here, didn’t think I’d actually do this but I did it.  She’s my baby.  I had to be the first on her!

And for the record, the next night I caused her to buck 🙂  Woops.

Pop the Eyes

Sorry, you may not be interested in Photoshop or Photoshop Elements, however, I think I’m making myself more notes than anything.  That way I know where to go back once I can’t remember… LOL :).

Slowly but surely I’m trying to teach myself Photoshop.  Remember, that’s one of my 101 in 1001 items.  Although I’m not sure I’ll learn everything there is about photoshop in 1001 days, but that doesn’t mean I won’t give it my best effort.

So here is the photo Straight out of Camera (SOOC).

It’s a decent photo, but it could use some improvement.  What I’m going to show you here though, is how to pop his eyes.

As you can see here, I played with the coloring.  It was a bit on the blue side so I warmed it up a bit.  Yes we both need a tan, but not like the first photo shows!

Chava’s Mexican Restaurant – St. Louis, MO

After we left Anheuser Busch Brewmaster’s Tour, hubby was feeling the alcohol he had so we decided we needed to get some grub in his stomach, and mine too.  We looked at the maps that the guy had given us the previous day and hubby decided he wanted Mexican.  Chava’s was on our map so I plugged the address into the GPS and away we went, except she took us to Geyer Street in Kirkwood in the middle of a neighborhood.  We giggled a bit and hubby renamed her Ditzy 2 (the second after his GPS).  So we replugged in the information, Avenue gets you to the right place, so 14 miles later we wound up at Chava’s Mexican Restaurant.  Hey, we looked at it as we found a neighborhood we’d never have been to otherwise 🙂
